Mitre Square is the scene of the murder of Jack the Rippers 2nd victim Catherine Eddowes on 30th September 1888
Very close to the Gherkin, this square is so small you could easily miss it. Eddowes body was found close to where there are now public benches & flowerbeds. It is known as ripper corner.
This place must have been very eerie late at night in the late 1880's - Although the buildings surrounding it have changed (there is a school nearby) it retains the size and shape it was back in the rippers day.
