I interviewed 6 lawyers before I got to Margaret. Margaret had the qualities that I was looking for: a sharp, analytical, and creative mind and a wonderful amount of compassion for her clients. Over the last three years I feel I know her quite well. In those 3 years we hit major road blocks to getting a settlement the latest one being the closure of the judicial offices in Santa Clara County for a long stretch of time because of the virus. Margaret's solution was to find a private judge. She is a caring person, and an extremely hard worker who goes the extra mile to provide legal and emotional support. A fiduciary should communicate promptly and act in the best interests of the beneficiaries, but that has not been our experience here. Mr Chaddock or the attorney working with him on this probate/estate Jeffrey Killeen have stopped communication with our family and there is still over $100,000 that has not been paid out.

I chose him only because my dad had used his firm to update estate planning documents. I deeply regret my decision as, through Mr. Courtney's negligence and awful communication, he made this already difficult process even MORE stressful and arduous. Mr. Courtney failed to adhere to the clearly defined terms of his engagement letter: to send me monthly statements. Therefore I was unpleasantly surprised to get a bill at the end for nearly double the original cost estimate. He also ignored my explicit request to get an account statement a month earlier. As trustee, I needed this information so I could properly maintain a cash reserve for unexpected expenses. Furthermore, he KNEW I was gathering information on outstanding debts and still did not mention his outstanding bill. When I asked Mr. Courtney why he did the above, he stonewalled and dodged the question. He said tersely he "waited until completion". This is a shameful lack of understanding what his client needs and unwillingness to accept responsibility for falling short. I could go on with other examples, but will stop there. Needless to say I would never work with Mr. Courtney again, and would definitely not recommend him to others.

He asked for relevant information over email and gave us fully detailed overview of the process including what he services he could and could not provide (e.g. he couldn't represent us in court, but he could file deed and get it recorded) My wife and I both are working people and needed a lot of flexibility. Both of us would need to go sign the paperwork and have it notarized. Rob offered to get into his office at 7:30am just to accommodate us even though his office building itself doesn't open till 9. When we went there he was ready with all the paperwork and he went over everything in detail. We even made a check that was slightly higher amount by mistake (including credit card surcharge) and Rob pointed out that the amount should be lower! The recorded deeds arrived right on time as he had predicted. We would definitely recommend Rob !

My son had a complete breakdown. His behavior was horrible. He verbally attacked me and stated he didn't want me near his son. Several months later he got his life back on track and recanted his statement. Our grandchildren spent one weekend per month with my husband and I. When our DIL went to Vietnam Nam we cared for the children for two weeks. We kept both children during vacations from school and over holidays. During our interview with Mr Penn he was more interested in reliving his military career and seeing if he and my husband had friends in common. He paid little attention to me. Needless to say this went to trial and we were denied ANY visitation with our grandson. Our son is allowed to see his son every 6 weeks in a counselors office. The counselor has suggested they go to dinner or gaming and his former spouse will not allow it. Unless we spend another $40K in attorney fees we cannot see our grandson. Our grandson lost his beloved sister, his father and grandparents who doted on him. Mr Penn should/could have worked to ensure the boy received love from all parties. Instead he opted to side with my DIL attorney as (we believe) he is on retainer with them.
