Shaw Jewellers is great as you can have them engrave special items, repair any watches, clocks or jewellery as they have an on site workshop - this is great if it's a small job; you can bring the item in, go for a lovely cuppa at Olde Booths, come back and collect, done! Pretty useful to have, as I can't tell you how many rings I have ruined by constant usage. As well as these excellent services they also have a pretty decent collection of jewels and watches for one's perusal! Though I couldn't exactly afford to splash out on a whim, I adored their gemstone bracelets which were on display. There was one with multi coloured gems - which I assumed to be carnelian, amethyst, garnet, aventurine and so on (but don't quote me, I could be totally wrong!) and it was pretty exciting. They also seemed to have gold chains galore, some beautifully delicate bracelets, some gorgeous vintage rings and some rather manly watches too. All in all, be it a special occasion or just a special treat for yourself, this is a grand old jewellers to browse.

What's most revealing about Pudsey is that despite being one of the slightly larger towns, and I suppose middle sized compared to most, in Leeds it really only seems to have independent shops when it comes to fashion. This is a really nice element to Pudsey, I much prefer a rootsy array of small businesses to the big brands, but here is where it can also fail me. Sadly enough of the two ladies' wear shops in Otley, this being the second one I found, neither had anything much that I particularly liked. Don't get me wrong, the items in Lady Grande are lovely, but not to my taste. Lady Grande has plenty of sparkle and vivacity, just not in my direction. There were some lovely chunky funky necklaces, huge 80s style brooches, beaded purses, animal print clothing (zebra, leopard etc), huge heart shaped pendent necklaces, neck scarves, dresses - literally tons of lovely clothing - it's just a shame that I didn't find anything to suit me. Sure enough though, everything in there seemed to be at a bargainous price, so not all is lost!

The lady who served us was sooooo friendly and genuine, which is hard to find sometimes when you're looking for brides and bridesmaid dresses. We ended up getting a lovely taffeta pinkish bridesmaid dress for me and my sister and they altered it (for more money) really well for me! They had some beautiful bride dresses as well, it's definately worth a look. They don't come cheap, but they look gorgeous and well you only live once!!

Before I knew it we were discussing the ins and outs of suede and leather care with the lovely chap inside. He explained that for leathers it was a simple case of protecting with polish, but suede on the other hand was another issue. He in fact said he could end up selling us fifty pounds worth of care products, all of which we'd use fully, just to protect our shoes. So, an expensive thing to look after it seems! Nonetheless we simply made a purchase of some hardy looking suede protector spray and ended up having a lovely bit of banter in the meantime. As I looked around at the array of different items this place has on sale I was reminded just what a jack of all trades this cute little shop is. Need some make up? Plenty of cheap basket items check. Need a keyring? Check. Shoe care items? Check. And so on. A really handy shop with a lovely bloke to help you out!

I don't mean to be mean but I'm just non-plussed when it comes to this kind of store. In fairness, B&M is much more of a Wilko's-a-like than a Woolies. Wandering in I must admit I was taken aback at how busy it was for a school day - there were people all over the place grabbing bargains and queueing for dear life. It felt like I was the only one not in on the secret - was the world ending? No. It's just the people of Pudsey love the B&M goodness. At rightly so, after all, one can buy some seriously cheap cushions, cushion covers, throws, crisps, snacks, canned goods, duvet sets, prints, rugs, wool, sweets and much, much more. They are also selling a faux fur blanket that, I SWEAR, is the softest most AMAZING feeling thing I have ever touched. Really, it was beautiful! It stocks a wide range of goods with everything from food and drink, baby and kids clothes, household products, toys and much much more. I often pop in for nothing in particular and come away with a basket it full of goods. Stock turn over is fast so if you see something grab it while you can or you might miss out. This has happened to me in the past when I waited to buy things. They sell big names toys at reasonable prices my son got a fab powerrangers helmet just before christmas, they also seem to stock lots of Ben 10 items which are very popular. They have big names in baby products like Heniz food and simple wipes. Great cheapy store a bit like the pound shops and home bargains

In the window alone were two of the most exquisitely made wedding dresses I've ever seen - beautiful ivory material, delicate beaded detail and gorgeous design. They don't just do wedding dresses (of which from their website it seems they employ a few designers!) they also do bridesmaid and prom dresses - and this is so much more than your standard high street options. If you purchased on of these dresses for an A-level party you would most certainly be the belle of the ball. Accessories, such as shoes, tiaras and veils, are also available and are exquisite. Truly this shop has some utterly beautiful dresses and it is a pleasure to be inside.

Pudsey might not be the first port of call for many when it comes to having a bit of a shop and a browse, but don't overlook this sweet little town, it's certainly worth a look. Being only half an hour or so on the bus from Headingley Stadium (the 91 in fact!) it's not that hard to get to and even easier by car. If you get off at Lidgett hill then you won't be able to miss this little gem of a charity shop. The thing I really enjoyed about this place was the sort of 'undiscovered' feel it has. There were tons of great little bits and bobs, lovely jewellery, quirky clothing, bargainous bric-a-brac and so on, inside but it was as if no one else knew about it. The signage of the shop itself must be some kind of relic, it looks like it may have practically been the RSPCAs original logo or something! They always seem to make a great effort on their window display and I found the volunteers to be pleasant and helpful. All in all another one to watch out for!
