After being gone for a few years, I was excited to be back and get my favorite sandwich and side form MS Grounds. Unfortunately, my experience means I will not be back. First they were out of the side I wanted at 11:20am and then they were out of all bread except wheat berry. Okay, I'll adapt. Then I get my sandwich which was covered in ash and soot. I drove back and explained that hate to do this but my sandwich was practically inedible. It had crunchy bits of burnt food all over the meat. The guy behind the counter looked at me like I had two heads and with stank asked "what you want your money back." When I asked if they could make another sandwich without the burnt bits they informed me that all of their sandwiches are like this because of their grill pan. When I asked for my money back he turned around and said no he will try to make a new one. You can see from my pics that he did not try. The second sandwich was just as bad but I took it and left because I had had enough. My question is, do they not clean their grill pan? Because that's nasty. But judging by the state of the grill equipment out front, I think that's a no. I know food and grills and there is a difference between well loved and not taken care of. I guess this explains why there was no one there during what should have been the lunch rush. Notable but not as gross: my husbands latte was over steamed and not very good. The only reason I'm giving this place any stars is because the chai tea was tolerable . I ordered a blueberry scone ...when I got home and unwrapped it, it was raw dough with baked edges. I was close by so went back to exchange..the guy working said they were all like that ...and gave me my money back. I like this coffee shop. They have WiFi too. It's located across the street from the Bolivar County Court House. It's self serve if you are just ordering coffee. I got a small coffee for $2. If you want something like a cappuccino or a latte then, they will fix it for you. They have inside seating as well as outside seating. The outside seating has umbrellas too in case you are wondering. I saw no TVs. I saw 5 ceiling fans and several couches. It's in an old service station which is kind of unique. I will be coming back again since this is just one of two coffee shops here in Cleveland that I know of. read more

Stopped in for breakfast based on a recommendation and thought the food and coffee was really good but the service and ambiance was definitely disappointing. I say that because our cashier had poor customer service in welcoming us or answering simple questions, and I say ambiance because there's signs everywhere of things not to do (don't bring in drinks not even bottled water, don't use tables for studying during the lunch hours, don't open the certain side of the fridge unless you're an employee, don't be on your cell phone when ordering, don't sit at their buffet table if you're only a group of 1-3 people....it was a lot of off putting signage for things that seem simple common sense for customers to know). read more

The coffee is very good but seriously, if you haven't been here for lunch off the cooker out front you are cheating your mouth out of an amazing experience. Do note, in typical southern bbq fashion what is cooked about n the morning is what is served at lunch and when it's gone its gone, so get there early to make sure you get what you want. We were just a bit to late for the ribs, but were very happy with the pulled pork and pepperoncini beef sandwiches. The baked beans have hearty chunks of meat and great flavor. The slaw if good, if you like a very creamy slaw then you may not like it but I also would not say that it is very vinegary either. Very rude and inconsiderate owners. Their food is microwaved and the biscuits are Jimmy Deans which are charged for $7. They're highly disrespectful to their customers and do NOT know how to properly handle/run a business. I highly do NOT recommended this establishment and would prefer going to ZOES which is much nicer staff, as well as better tasting coffee/food/environment all around. There are three things I look for in a coffeehouse. one: coldbrew coffee. this place has it on the menu, yes. However, it comes in a store bought container that pre measures the amount by squeezing the base enough In order to fill the reservoir and then adding water to the brim for $3.50. Not okay. Two: I ask for no ice because of the side effect. With that they added a charge of $1.00 extra. For what? It's already pre-measured of a shot of extract. The rest, tap water. So, They charged me $1.00 for a 1/4 cup of water to displace the ice. This in its own right to me is a horrible, judgmental person who has no idea about what people believe In, health wise or even teeth wise. 3: they charge for the use of a card transaction. I'm giving 2 stars because my experiences here have been hit or miss. I frequent Cleveland as, as my best friend attends Delta State. I've always gotten up early to go get a coffee and even when another coffee shop opened, I remained loyal to this one. However - today was the last of that. I'll explain: Yesterday, I called to place our order ahead of time (because it always takes forever to get grits). They have a 3 item minimum to order over the phone, and I am familiar with this policy. So when I called, I ordered two coffees and wanted 2 orders of their Mexican Grits. The girl on the phone (who's customer service was less than impressive) said, "We don't have grits today." I said that was fine and I'd just take the coffees. She then informed me that there was a 3 item min. for phone orders. I replied, "Well there's only two of us ...." I paused trying to think of something else I could order, "... I don't have anything else to order. I wanted grits." The girls then says, "Well we aren't busy just come inside." Okay so it's YOUR fault you don't have what I'm trying to order and you can't take my TWO- drink order over the phone?? By the way, you don't have to pay over the phone. Just order at least 3 items. So...? I could pick this policy apart but, moving on... Today I called to see if they had grits. She said yes so I placed my whole order (this time, 2 iced coffees - one with soy milk, a hot cocoa, and 2 grits). Again, the girl on the phone was rude and needed serious customer service training. I arrived to the coffee shop but because I was pulling a trailer, I had to pull up a little further (and onto the grass some) so not to block the drive with it. I go inside and the server is wearing a crop top with her hair down. She was nice, though, and asked my name for the order. When they brought it around, the iced drinks were melted and watered down and neither was labeled for soy. So I asked the server and she asked the barista (who was clearly the one I spoke to on the phone because she could NOT be bothered with life at the moment). She walked over, looked at my drinks, and said, "No, I don't know" and walked off. The poor server girl offered to remake them. I told her no and I would just taste them to see if I could tell. The barista made a comment like, "Well I may have made both of them with soy." Ummm okay but I didn't order both of them with soy so get your life together!! Anyway, I finally got out of there and got to my vehicle. The owner, who I've NEVER had a pleasant encounter with, followed me outside shaking her finger and yells across the parking lot, "Yeah, if you could NOT park on the grass, that'd be great." She couldn't think of a nicer way to ask me not to park (a little bit) on the grass? Or ... I don't know ... maybe just notice that I'm pulling a trailer and trying to stay out the way?? Show a little grace?? I mean COME ON!! I was so shocked by the lack of customer service and drink quality from a place I've chosen to continue supporting. But like I said, there is a new coffee shop in town and I will be supporting them from now. Side note: they are a pay-it-forward business who supports a ministry in Africa. It's called Zoe Coffee Co. and they just gained a new, loyal customer out of me. I am a small business owner myself so I know and understand the importance of great customer service. I also am not quick to blast another business because I know it's a hard world out there but when you are consistently poor, the world needs to be warned. Don't go here! read more

She didn't even bother to listen to my whole question and was rude again then hung up. I don't care how good the food may be, but her rudeness will stop me from buying anything there and I will not recommend them to anyone. Awesome coffee shop! I loved the fact that this building was originally an old gas station/garage......merging two loves of my garage and my coffee. I stopped in early day for a quick cappuccino which was pretty good. After working I needed some time to finish up a report. I used their free WIFI and enjoyed some brewed coffee. Their dark roast was excellent and bottomless (refills). I need to go back and try some of the scones that another reviewer mentioned. Those sounded great. I also saw that they were serving food that seemed to be popular since there were quite a few customers eating also. The people working there were really nice and friendly. The BEST part was the fact that they opened one of the roll-up garage doors to let the fresh air in. It was awesome since the weather was nice that day. I wish there was someplace just like this back home. I'm fairly positive that this is the same building that "The Bean Counter" was at. Is there some way for Yelp to note that The Bean Counter is no longer? It is kind of confusing if you are not familar with the area. Update: The blueberry scones are indeed tasty as well as the rasberry white chocolate ones. I did not get a chance to try the lunch food but it did look pretty promising. Possibly the only coffee shop between Memphis and Jackson, this place does a good job! There are no pour overs, only basic espresso drinks (and bean quality) and all in styrofoam cups, but the drinks are solid and the atmosphere/music is always pleasant. They have great sandwiches, and smoke their own incredible BBQ out front every Thursday! They often spontaneously have live music, and their baked goods are always a good choice. The baristas are kind and the service is fast. Only word of warning is that the owner has a very strict no outside container policy that includes any and all reusable water bottles (as they charge for water), so if she is in at the time it may be tightly enforced. read more

Mississippi Grounds opened in the old Bean Counter building on Court Street in Cleveland. I was very excited to see this location reopened as a coffee shop. The decor is a bit more modern than before, and lends a bit of urban flavor to the establishment. There is considerably more seating than before, and the owners have installed a convenient laptop bar for those who wish to utilize the business's free wi-fi. The menu is on par with most small coffee shops, and prices are very reasonable. FYI: THE BLUEBERRY SCONES ARE AMAZING!!! The service is most courteous and expedient. Ordered a breve iced latte and they had no idea what it was. They don't even have half and half behind the counter which is mind blowing for anyone who has been to a coffee shop. Then, they did something I've never in my life witnessed when getting a latte; they took a pitcher of (what I assumed to be) espresso out of the fridge to make my drink. They didn't make it to order. Meh is right. The coffee is ok, but the lunch menu is SO OVERPRICED, and frankly not that good. They do offer free wifi. This shop is a popular hangout for college kids and professors. Love this place! I encountered a few days ago covering a shift in Cleveland. The pharmacist RAVED about their tea and food. I had to try it out! It will be on my list of must visits in Cleveland. Terrible lunchtime service. My group of four people were the first people to order in the restaurant. Three people ordered a cup of soup as a side and they were only able to provide two. My mom is in town for work. And we come here every day or every other day. We really do enjoy this place, good coffee. We usually order 20 oz lattes, and today was the third time that we've had less than half our cup with the coffee and the rest of it was froth. It's always the same girl, however I don't know her name. We will still be returning however when she is there, we will wait and come back another time. I'd agree with Aaron H's review. The way MS Grounds is put together, you'd think you were hanging around your own living room with lots of sofas and comfortable chairs.
