This is one of the only places I like to go out in Des Moines. I always feel safe here. EJ and Jennifer make it a point to get to know you and make you feel welcome. The bartenders are absolutely some of the best around. There is music for all types of dancers. A huge dance floor. Live music with some of the best bands around. I highly recommend!!! read more

The cleanliness was NOT up to par it seemed there were several areas on the floor that had extremely sticky spots like drinks were spilled long ago and the floor hadn't been cleaned. I don't drink much anymore so I don't have a whole lot of reasons to go to Miss Kitty's much anymore... Even though I live just a few blocks from it in the older part of Clive. I drive by Miss Kitty's at least twice a day, but the last time I was inside was probably before I started Yelping...so 10+ years ago. It's a subtly lit country western nightclub for the most part. Regular bar service and dancing most nights. One of the best dance floors in the state! They also sometimes offer dance lessons, live music, and special events. Check out their schedule online. One of my buddies bought us a block of tickets for the recent Micro Maidens event. If you're really curious...look it up. The inside of the place hasn't changed much. Lol Entry and the show itself were run well. Service once you were inside was pretty much non-existant except for the occasional shot girl and a couple gentlemen clearing empties. About what I expected on the night of an event. If you want a drink while you are there for a show you best plan on standing in a line at the bar. Service at the bar was efficient and the waits weren't overly long. We usually sent two from our party to buy rounds and so there were enough hands to carry. Miss Kitty's is an excellent establishment. Very nice staff and fun environment. I love their special events, such as Halloween parties.

The dance floor is like the size of my living room. You can't really be a line dancing bar with a small dance floor.

Miss Kitty's has been in Des Moines for as long as I can remember but I had never been. So on a whim when we were driving by, we pulled in. If you didn't know, there would be no question this is a country bar when you walked in. Music was playing, several people were line dancing on the huge dance floor, and a band was getting set up for live music later. I was impressed by the size of the place and the mix of ages representing. They also have a game area with pool tables, darts and a punching bag thing. Would prefer a tallboy can over the tap beer in the plastic pint glass but since we only came in for one, it wasn't a big deal. Thank you to the staff at the door for letting us in without paying the cover when they saw our hesitation, given we weren't planning to stay long and the band hadn't started yet. read more

Miss Kitty's is a blast!! Even if you don't listen to country music, or even know how to dance -- after a few drinks you'll figure it out. I don't know how to do country dancing, but by the end of the night I hadn't missed a step! Well the jury's still out of that, but I think if you're a good follow you can follow any good lead. Anyway -- great place to let loose and have fun and forget about the outside world for a bit. It feels like being transported into a different world when you step into this bar and it's so much fun. I've been in the bar business for 8 years and I must say that if you promote new ownership, the bar needs to look "new"!!! Starting with the name. "Miss Kitty's " was a great name in 1998! Time to move on!! We went last Friday and we were turned off from the first 3 minutes of our visit. $$$ Cover charge in Clive, Iowa?? The whole bar isn't worth the cover charge we had to pay. The pool table felt is faded and the tables are NOT level and straight. The floor is an eye-sore. Country bars really need sawdust, not carpet!! The DJ thinks he's a real cowboy but he doesn't even own a horse. DJ wouldn't play our requests of a simple George Strait song. He needs to remove that "Cowboy" tattoo. Actually, we all needed a good joke to make up for the weak, horrible drinks, so keep the tattoo. The owner introduced himself as EJ. He Said they took over about 7 months ago, but things hadn't really picked up. So here's my advice: The drinks: All too WEAK!!!! The ambiance: same as 1999. The attendance: 22 people at 10:00 (seriously?) The dance floor: best in Iowa, what a shame they don't know how to promote it! Fire the DJ, he sucks and wouldn't know how to spin music if he got hit in the nuts with a turntable. He needs to read the crowd better (Even if it is 10 people at 10 at night). Have a better script of songs for 3-4 different crowds. Bartenders need to pour the right amounts of liquor in drinks. 1 to 1 1/2 ounces, NOT 3/4 ounce For every mixed drink. Measure it out! Don't just count to 3 and stop. Geez!! Owners: I'm so not impressed with your "new carpet" look. Hard wood floors or concrete with sawdust. That's a country bar! Nice sexy bartenders would be good. Only had one bar tender who was pretty and smiled the whole night. She was the star of the evening. The rest of the night I wasn't impressed with. You get 1 star because they don't offer negative scores, otherwise that's what you would be getting is a negative score. read more

The night was great until closing my tab. Waitress/Bartender came to my table insisting that our tab was closed and we needed to pay for the water my daughter just grabbed. Went up to review with the waitress/bartender at the bar and I was definitely overcharged. Bartender kept insisting we had drank more than 6 waters and they were drinks on my tab we had not ordered. I told her it was wrong. She kept insisting we had more water. I was still being overcharged $10 dollars and had been charged a 25% tip. A man, as I can't call him a gentleman, came to help and said he would get me the refund of the $10 and I said I think I would also like my tip back after the argument from the bartender and he proceeded to sling profanities at me while throwing money back at me. It was hugely unprofessional. I only wanted the difference and the tip for the bad service. This man continued to hurl profanities at my husband and daughter as they were walking out the door stating not to come back. No worries....I nor anyone in my family will go into your establishment as the profanity utilized was unnecessary and downright rude. Fair warning to anyone going there, don't have an open tab. You might get screwed and yelled at with profanities if you ask for it to be corrected and call out the rudeness of the bar staff when stating the issue. read more

This business has no respect for the time or money you spend in their establishment. Poor responses on social media (below, included) and no desire to actually respond with any kind of help or consideration. We visited last night for a friends birthday party. (Feb 11, 18) they weren't very busy at all which usually for a bar means faster service. We arrived in a Limo with 10-12 people around 9:30pm and we had zero wait to get in the door. That was the only time we didn't do a lot of waiting.... 3 Bartenders working who had zero hurry and on more than one occasion helped the person standing behind my wife and I instead of us standing at the bar. It took more than 5 minutes to order a drink let alone actually get it. Then when you get it, a shot is only half full and you're charged $5 for it. So two shots, with the content of one, $10 and 10 minutes to get. And of course to complain, they walk away before you can say anything. Again we return to the bar before leaving to close our tab and again a guy standing behind us was helped first. I see the gal then punch our drinks out to 17.50, then 4 minutes later she sets our charge slip in front of us which shows my card charged $18. Apparently they charge a 50¢ fee for this... the only bar in town I see do this even over nearby dives with better service. They are either cash only or minimum for a card. So we finish with our friends and chalk it up to a place where we won't likely go again and I send a message to the Facebook page to let them know our service wasn't great, our drinks were under-filled and that I was annoyed we were not advised there was a charge for cards until after our card was charged. We did promptly receive a message back (faster, mind you, than it takes one of the Bartenders to get a mixed drink). My message said: Is it normal for you folks to charge a card processing fee on top of drink charges Disappointed in cost of drinks vs quality and service tonight... Likely won't be back. Response: Sorry for your experience. Yes we do charge .50 cents per transaction which is posted on all registers. Hope you understand the cost of doing business is not cheap? Thanks ___ So really, if it's too expensive to do business you shouldn't do business. My small business accepts credit cards with no fee because it's just good business and I am sure my income is exponentially smaller than theirs charging 5 bucks for a half an ounce of liquor and 5 bucks at the door. Then they LIKE their response to me in our chat session. RUDE. I responded back about our disappointment with the drinks which went unanswered in their first message and that I would be sure to share their responses in my negative reviews. They then responded again saying: Every register has a sign on it sorry you missed it. Won't dispute what I didn't see but our bartenders have over 30 years experience and I trust them. Sorry again. Monica the owner is a pathological liar who doesn't respect your time or money. She made are wedding planning vary difficult. She changed our rehearsal date gave us wrong times to show up didn't tell us a band would set up at the same time as us cut our rehearsal time in half wouldn't return calls or give us straight answers. Went to Miss Kittys for a friends birthday. What a disappointment. First, who still does a cover charge, especially when a place is DEAD? The cover was $2 a person which is not a big deal, BUT is something management should consider getting rid of. Gives everyone a poor taste of the establishment prior to even entering. There was a handful of people in the bar and the dance floor was empty. Not sure if the low attendance was because of the fair or other events but this was a snooze fest. Drinks have little to no alcohol, so order a beer if you must have something. Or have your $2 bottled water. This place is desperate to make money anyway. The DJ came over asking for us to provide a list of songs. Not a huge deal but something I would expect a large establishment to have prior to the night starting. Nothing like getting people on the dance floor by asking them to write a list of 50 of their favorite songs and play none of them after. I understand COVID has impacted this industry in so many ways, but it appears Miss Kittys is missing something...hope they get their stuff together soon. Our Stillettos On Steel Christmas party landed at Miss Kitty's. We had a fabulous time! The staff was friendly and extremely accommodating! The crowd was a an awesome generation mix and so fun! EJ is a great owner, and has put in a great dance floor!! Highly recommend this place for a fun evening and night. And for all the peeps complaining about the cover charge quit being so cheap. Theirs is pennies compared to AZ, and they have to pay the entertainment for everyone to enjoy. read more

Went here cuz some friends from AZ recommended it. I don't know why their experience was better than ours but the reason the drinks were cheaper is because they are super weak. I don't recommend this to the out-of-town visitors. I am not a fan of the country music scene and their bar just lowered the bar even more. Has potential, expensive to drink. It's been nice having live music, but it can be hit or miss.

Dance floor is OK. service sometimes is a little slow. Overall though it is a good place to dance if you get there early. Later (10 PM) the crowd shifts to younger and the music turns to Rock and Rap and whatever it is the young kids play. read more

On any other day I would've rated Kitty's (formerly Miss Kitty's) 10 stars out of 5. This place has been my go to bar for almost 5 years, I loved it there because it has a large dance floor, wide spectrum of people who go there and a variety of music. This bar was my favorite place in des moines and I was never sure why my friends hated it so much until the other night when the DJ was extremely rude and inappropriate towards me. Like any other night, I drug 20 + of my friends out to Kitty's to let loose and dance for 4 hours straight. Although I do not really drink, all of my 20+ friends give them tons of business at the bar. I went up to request a song, any Kesha song, not even a specific song so the dj could pick whichever one he wanted. Not that Kesha is the most amazing artist, but her songs are fun to dance to. 30 minutes went by and still no song, I looked up at the dj innocently and he motioned like it would be the next song. Another 30 minutes went by and I happened to walk by the DJ on the dance floor, before I could even say a word, he said "I will play your song if you stop f***ing asking me" and not in a kidding voice, a mad, irritated voice. I jokingly poked back at him that the song he was playing was not a very good one, and he responded very angrily, "then f***ing leave." Despite that I might have bothered him one too many times, I do not think this is at all acceptable to talk to a customer like this, especially one who has brought over 20 people to the bar. At this, I did what he said and left, but not because of his musical choices but because of how rude he is and I took my 20 friends with me. Now that I won't be begging my friends to go, they just lost probably 30 customers and one really loyal one. read more

The location of the place and décor was good, but many of the people especially the staff were incredibly rude and disrespectful. I can go to many other places to have a better time and save much more money. Also, be careful of the servers. They don't like to give correct change. I probably won't be going back there and I would not recommend taking any friends or visitors from out of town to this place.
