I would NOT recommend anyone go to this shop.
I went there November 11 for a June 12 wedding. I fell in love with a La Sposa dress (which I saw online, so they didn't even have to sell it to me per se), and that was my closest shop. They were very nice when we first went there. I was persuaded to make a purchase soon because:
1) the La sposa Duero dress was their last one, and it was a sample.
2) if I purchase it with 6 months to go, I have to pay several hundred pound rush charge.
My big fear was rush charge, so I bought it. I was not informed at the time, but a few weeks later, they asked me to pick up my dress, as they would not be altering it until 3 months before the wedding. They had not said that would be the case before. I had to take it to my (future) parent-in-laws, because we simply do not have enough space in our wardrobe in our relatively cramped London flat. So that was a minor inconvenience. (But also, if that was the case, how would a rush charge ever have been appropriate?!)
When it came to the dress fittings, they said they only have appointments from 10 to 5.30pm. My work hours are from 9 to 5.30pm. For the first 2, I was able to take time off because my boss was very understanding. However, for my 3rd fitting, I simply could not take time off because it was our financial month end. I conversed with the lady over the phone, and I asked whether I could:
a) book another appointment
b) just come on and try on the dress by myself, and take it home.
I was told that:
a) Most brides consider it important, and would take time off work to try it on (when I said I simply could not take time off)
b) You would not be able to zip up (yes, zip!) the dress yourself, and our fitters are all busy.
Of course, when I took it home (or, to be honest, once our best man had taken it home, as I could not face meeting them again), I was able to zip up my own dress, as I do with all my other dresses.
I find their after service simply appalling. For a £895 sample dress, I ended up paying £600+ for tailoring costs (lifting hem up, and taking sides in). There were no major structural changes.
Compare that to my second wedding dress (we have 2 days of festivities), where I paid £2,500 one off charge, for a dress made from scratch for me, with all tailoring costs involved.and of course, with fittings up to 9pm. I know where I would recommend all my friends to go in the future (or not to go, as I don't think I can name the 2nd dress shop on here). read more
