Emergency Care (and some Follow-up Care) -…read more NOTE: I have a lot of Good Things to say about CDH ("Central Dupage Hospital", they seem to call it!), and a few Bad Things to say, as well. In the final equation, the "goods" outweigh the "bad", and leave me with 5 stars. My Health Issues are my own, and not the Hospital's. I have taken this into account. I will also reference comments made by other Reviewers... and I will not judge your own opinions, but only the comments others made. Let's acknowledge - right up front - that Hospitals are ALWAYS understaffed. After all, who in their right mind would want to deal with people like me, or are writing negative reviews on Yelp, whining and bitching about their Entitlements? And do this for an entire Career of 12 - 14 hour shifts? Not me, bucko. I went to CDH ER after visiting the Warrenville Urgent Care Facility, for a *severe* nosebleed. As I near the end of my Tenure on this miserable planet (whose Joys are compounded by His Awesome Puissant Orangeness and its Clown Car Administration), I've seen a lot of things - but NEVER a nosebleed like this. Think of a fast-dripping faucet, just shy of a constant stream. It literally scared me. My Bride and I worked at home for 10 hours trying to stop it, and could not. So, we climbed in the truck. Warrenville Urgent Care took a look, and recommended we go to CDH ER. We walked into the ER. Warrenville had obviously called ahead - the nice ladies at Reception saw us, and motioned me toward a waiting gurney and Nurse. There was zero wait time. Fast-forward 4 hours of serious effort by the doctors and nurses and a couple of what they call "Rhino Rockets" stuffed up my snout, and we had it quenched. We agreed that the Probable Cause was "Eliquis", a blood thinner recently prescribed to me to combat another Health Issue as I crawl toward the grave. A blood vessel had ruptured in my schnozzle. But there was also a collateral concern - I had lost so much blood during those 14 hours (circa 2 liters, we "bevnap estimated"), that the Doctors wanted to monitor me awhile. My Hemoglobin level was 7.1. So they admitted me, with my agreement. The ER Experience? Check, check, and check. No issues, professional, courteous, and caring. Up to the Second Floor, Cardiac. In Cardiac, the Doctors, Nurses, and Assistants came in and introduced themselves. I spent the next 4 days there, and reflecting on the experience, I have very few complaints. I'll list 'em below if I have room, or in a follow-up post. But overall, they took very good care of me. The Cardiac Experience? Check, check, and check. No issues, professional, courteous, and caring. I'd like to personally thank Nurses Josh and Isabella, who looked out for me over several lonely night shifts - I was insomniac, and if I slept for the next three days, I really can't remember it. But, hey: this is a review of the ER, so let me tangentially address some of the Yelp comments I saw: * "The problem with most ERs is under staffing." - Yes, indeed. That's called economics. Nearing the end of my life, I can't say I've ever found a solution, except to stand up for yourself where needed, and don't make a fuss if the issue is triaged-out. * "They know how to spend on remodeling" - Yes, indeed. I would also venture the opinion that *this is the best-looking Hospital I've ever seen" *. And, why should they not work to make their Facility as attractive as they can? Construction workers are not Doctors, and there is a shortage of Doctors. * "No one came to check on me with any regularity." - Yes, entirely possible. That's why there's this widget attached to the bed with a "Call Button" on it. This comment suggests a 'passive approach' to one's own Health Care - waiting around for things to happen to you. Enable yourself. * "Ran test and wanted to run more." - Yes, indeed. Corrective process for sacs of meat (e.g. Humans) follows a procedure where you must wait and observe the outcome of the last action . * "They nickel and dime everything." - Yes, indeed. That is the current state of the American Medical "system". Vote to change it, sir. And, to punish the Orange. The Bad's? Well, I took a look at my own notes, and nothing was important-enough to bear mentioning. I'll call-out a few, just for drill: * Their signage (Facility-wide) is abysmal, and does not support a first time visitor. * There's a Valet available to help you park your ride after arrival. You'll never see him, due to the poor signage. Now I am approaching the end of my Character Count (as well as my Life!!), so let me stop here. But please keep in mind - these are people who have devoted their entire lives to helping people, undergoing the strictest training of which I'm aware, and working shifts that exceed what I would EVER consider putting up with myself. Can they make mistakes? Sure! But give them the grace to be human every now and then, and question them if you see an issue. Stick up for yourself. Peace.

Again it's not the doctors or nurses fault they do there best and are alway kind. northwestern hospital,is getting so big with all the hospitals they are buying up,that they are forgetin patients care is why they are there is getting

I brought my husband in and I can't even tell you how rude the front desk or Patient representatives are in that area. I asked them a question and they just looked at me like I was bothering them. It was not even busy. It's a shame that people in the healthcare industry have such a hard time acting human and being nice to people that are in need of help. If they hate their job then they should quit.. it's simple. Anyway the Dr was lovely. Hopefully desk staff will get better!!

Dr. Venugopal is a warm, caring doctor who has treated me for stress, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD and clinical depression. She refuses to call in scripts and makes me call my pharmacy and make the pharmacist call in ALL requests to the doctor. I've never dealt with an office who won't give the doctor a script request. I find the receptionist lazy and very inefficient. Often, I have to keep calling the office and asking if the refill was called in. I've been told by the receptionist that she will NOT contact me when the script is called into the pharmacy, and I can just "keep calling your pharmacy until it gets there." HUH??!! When I tried to explain to the receptionist that this is a very inefficient way to know when I can pickup my daughter's meds, she replied, "it's the only way, because I don't know when or IF scripts are refilled." Then, "sleepy sounding receptionist" hangs up, and I spend the next 5+ hours trying to guess when to pickup my daughter's meds, and if they've even been called in at all. The receptionist also blames ME when she never returns my calls. When I finally get upset because I can't get the office to call me back, the receptionist says, "I left you a message. You must not have gotten it." This excuse worked the first and second times, but by the 3rd time, it's just annoying. Even when I explain that I don't have any missed calls from the office and NO messages, the receptionist than blames my phone and says "something must've happened." Huh??! No, nothing "happened" other than I can't seem to get returned calls from this office. Today, after waiting for 2 days for a return call, I was told "sorry, the doctor already left for the day, so you will need to wait another day before she can call in medicine for your daughter." So, tomorrow will be DAY THREE that we wait, when this should really take 5 minutes. It might be time to search for other options in St. Charles. As I mentioned, Dr. Venugopal is a great doctor, but if you want to see her, be prepared to fight with her receptionist to get refills, appointments or returned calls (and be prepared to be blamed too). I've had experience with other psychiatrists' offices with my daughter (in different places we've lived), and this office is definitely one of the worst to deal with (because of the staff).

I have had epilepsy for 26 years and was on 4 AEDs and was still waking up at times with some focal auras which caused me to be totally aphasic. I waited for 30 minutes this Md then proceeded to write prescription of Keppra which she thought she was increasing the Keppra but she decreased it which was incorrect. She ordered an EEG and a MRI and both were completed in May. In July I was still sending her a message in my chart to " does Dr King even have time to take me on as a patient " I Then received a call from Northwestern Medical center to schedule a 5 day inpatient stay at the epilepsy. I was admitted under another Md and taken off all my AEDs No seizures were noted on the EEG for Those 5 days however I did have 2-3 episodes. I really did not receive any valuable information from this test at all except the plan was to take me off the 1 medication and then start to decrease another one. And my vitamin B level was low. When I returned home there was a letter from the state saying my license had been cancelled and it was dated the day I entered the epilepsy monitoring unit. So after having epilepsy for 26 years which started off with tonic clonic seizures this provider canceled my driver license and to get it back I need to submit 3 years of neurology records and a EEG that is longer than 24 hours and a therapeutic Keppra level. This provider reported me to the state before the results came back..although I had Auras. I went there for help and have had nothing but stress, unnecessary stress since that time

The actual care providers (Docs, nurses, etc) are genrally good. But the problems happen with internal procedures and processes that are rigidly followed without anyone being able to explain them. When you ask to speak with someone higher up, the only answer you get is "no!" As for patient advocacy and the customer service departments, they are unhelpful for the same reasons. I've asked multiple times to be contacted by someone, it never happens. I'm not listing my specific service breakdowns here as this is already long. I do wonder what I'm worth in terms of lifetime revenue and profit to Duly? Surely they have this kind of data. It can't be a small amount. Sadly, Duly acts as if they have no competition or maybe they just don't care enough to have their leadership start with the customer/patient in mind. Duly Health and "Care". They should remove the last word from their name because they either don't want to, or simply can't live up to the definition of that word. It's great for marketing their brand, but they currently can't execute it. Don't choose Duly I'm general or even a specific provider affiliated with Duly. Go somewhere else.
