I called to schedule an appointment and get some information about wait times, process, etc. The…read morepractice is listed on a sheet from the VA as an option. We had been to the emergency room and told to follow up with a neurologist. The person who picked up the phone would not stop talking over me. To the point of wondering if I was in some sort of AI simulation. Over and over again telling me a referral had to be in her computer to a. Answer my questions, b. Make an appointment (we have a ppo that does not require referrals) and wouldn't tell me where to get one. The ER writing follow up with a neurologist seemed like that would be referring us to neurology. Talked to the ER today and they said they could get me a copy of the records to take to them but had no idea how to get a referral into their computer. The insurance company gave me the same thing VA had: a list of practices. The practice calls them to verify coverage not the other way around. Did she mean authorization? I'll never know. She would not stop talking over me to ask. I can't let anyone I know who needs neurology go into that den of madness. And my misunderstanding of the process I can accept. Not having the skills at the receptionist desk for a call to walk someone through the process in a doctor's office is really not acceptable. They are the interface with the doctors & system. Unfortunately the only other practices in town were 3-4 months out. We have to drive to Tallahassee to be seen. Infuriating.

Never going back. 1st visit for cataract surgery in January 2026. Scheduled for surgery. No issues…read more I had a medical emergency requiring surgery and extended antibiotics so I cancelled eye surgery. Called to reschedule in May and was told that another exam was required because too much time had past. Ok seemed reasonable. 2nd appt May 29th. Complete exam. Only now I had astigmatism in both eyes which requires additional surgery to correct at an additional cost. 1st eye scheduled for July 14th. 45 days after my exam. Unfortunately I had another medical emergency and had to cancel my eye surgery again. I started calling to reschedule the last week of july, which is when I would have been getting my 2nd eye done. Keep having to leave messages. Then finally last week someone answered the phone and said oh they don't get the messages if they're not here that day so I had to call a different city office to get my surgery rescheduled. During the call she informed me that I had to go back for another eye exam and I was like it's only been 2 months and surgery orders are only good for 45 days. WHAT??? YOU WOULDN'T HAVE EVEN GOTTEN TO MY 2ND SURGERY WITHIN 45 DAYS BECAUSE THATS HOW LONG IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BEFORE THE 1ST FRIGGING SURGERY. So I said that was ridiculous and why during the scheduling for the other 2 visits was I never informed there was a 45 day limit. Of course no answer. So today for the 3rd time in 7 months I with a severely damaged right ankle have driven 160 miles round trip because I have a hard time getting help with driving. So I get there and go through the first 4tests. Then in exam room she's pulling out eye drops and I asked her if they were going to dilate my eyes and she said yes. Then I said oh no. I have to drive 80 miles. Why the hell was I not informed that a driver would be required before you subjected me to 3 days of EXTREME PAIN AS A RESULT OF DRIVING and she says you'll have to reschedule. I left and told them as I was leaving that I wouldn't be back because I've never ever been so poorly informed about things that COST ME IN A DOCTOR'S OFFICE. I ALSO TOLD THEM NOT TO BOTHER BILLING MY INSURANCE BECAUSE I WOULD DENY IT. I left. I also called my insurance company on my long drive home and they assured me that they wouldn't be able to bill it and if they tried the insurance company would let them know that they wouldn't get paid because they had no new doctors notes or diagnosis code for the visit. Read this again and tell me how the 45 day rule works. Seems like it only works when it's in your billing departments favor otherwise both eyes would have to be pre scheduled within 45 days. I can't stand it when information is withheld by the people I'm paying on purpose just to pad the bill.
