I had an amazing experience starting with scheduling my estimate. Lynda was so friendly and accommodated my busy schedule. Bill came out to give me an estimate on my roof and 2 doors. He was so thorough and had so much knowledge of the products. He helped me pick the best doors to fit my wants and needs. The crew showed up on time and the roof was torn off cleaned up and a new one put on in no time! I Love my doors, they are beautiful and operate flawlessly. Overall bad experience. Full siding and window replacement. Biggest problem: Bill Vaughn (Salesman) Minor issue(s): Cleanup, language barrier Pros: Work performed From the beginning, Bill was not a pleasant individual to work with. From the original estimate appointment to the ordering itself, he was over an hour late without so much as a phone call. He acted like he did not want to be there, did not explain things well, etc. Ordered windows and siding the first few days of July, with knowledge of it requiring a 6-8 week lead time. Medium-dark blue "Indigo dutchlap in a Triple-6 Craneboard, with white trim." -Bill Time passed without any word, ended up calling Bill the first week of September looking for an update. Said he didn't know and that he'd check. Come to find out the Craneboard siding we ordered had been discontinued weeks prior, if it was even available when we ordered. So we had to order a different color, which was okay we had a backup, but the windows were just getting shipped and should be there the following week. A few days passed, and we receive another call from Bill saying that the second time we had ordered, that siding was also no longer available and that we would have to do something different. By now we were starting to get a little bit frustrated, because we felt like we (as customers) should not have had to be doing the checking. But we said okay, we will do the tear off and be ready for you. So we did all the tear off, and asked Bill (since siding plans had changed) if the house wrap we were going to use to protect the exposed wall was going to interfere with the new insulated house wrap he recommended (since we had to remove the fanfold from the existing wall.) He said it would not, so go ahead and install it. Now it is mid September, and Tate and Shay show up to install the windows. They were very surprised and appreciative of all the hard work of tear-off having already been done (since they were doing full-frame replacements.) After 3 days, they had all the windows in and taped up to the house wrap I had installed. I think they did a fairly good job and I have no complaints about the work they performed. They did end up using a few of my tools (since they didn't have it with them-didn't bring them), and there cleanup job was maybe a 7/10. A week passes, no word on siding. The following day a truck shows up in the yard, no phone call, no alerts. It (the siding) then sits there, fully wrapped, for 2 weeks. I don't know what's there, or even what color or style got ordered. Another week passes. Siding guys show up. Though there was a minor language barrier, they're good guys and they tell me the house wrap needs to come off. Bill confirms even though he said it was OK earlier. They work to install the new insulated housewrap and proceed to put trim and siding on. Now I'm a busy guy and wasn't around for the day while they were working. I came home late and noticed everything was blue; trim included. Called Bill early the next morning and he "forgot" the trim was supposed to be white. So the siding guys proceeded to tear off everything they did the day before. Came back that night and noticed the trim around the windows were still not white. Bill says "Oh, well most everyone has us do it this way. The only accent color is the corners." In my head anything that isn't the main siding piece is trim, including all J-Trim, and after driving around to other houses and looking at their accent colors and trim colors, I stand behind that decision. Bill didn't agree and didn't offer to fix the problem. All we got credit for was the housewrap. And since we didn't feel like interacting with him anymore, I guess the house will remain this way. Bill needs to leave Minnesota's 1st Choice, and based on our experience, there is ZERO chance I'd be recommending them. read more

As of 5/5/2021, this business should NEVER be used. They are a seller of Pella windows yet do absolutely nothing to help with Pella issues. The very, very rude representative who answered the phone first told me that to get a replacement part "you need to find your own 'in' to the company (since Pella refuses to take calls)" and when I said that was ridiculous she said "Really, there are more important things to get upset about". I would not use this company and I would not purchase Pella Windows. BTW - the owner just called me after I placed my review to defend his company's treatment of me, and then said "I will have my attorney contact you" I see this company has poor ratings - go elsewhere. read more

They came to town after the Tornadoes came through. Try to get them to do some work for us asked for a bid according to Bill that is not how they do jobs we're just supposed to write them a check for the deductible and they take care of the rest with the insurance company. After repeating that I wanted a bid for the job I got one there more than $16,000 higher than the next company then he charge me for the dumpster that he had brought that I never ordered. He asked if I was all right for him to start on Monday I said no I have a different contractor to do the job he asked then about another project that we had I said I want a bid for that project he said he'll pass doesn't want to do the work for us. I would never recommend working with Bill or this company they are storm chasers and want to charge your insurance company as much as they can read more

They contacted us (unasked) by phone three days ago, asking to come over and give us an estimate. I explained we are not having anybody at our home during the Covid-19 outbreak, and to please take us off their phone list. They contacted us yesterday. I re-explained we are keeping social distance, and again asked them to take us off their phone list. They contacted me today and hung up as I was, again, asking them to not call. read more

The people at Minnesota's 1st Choice were great to work with from the first home visit to project completion! They sent me a detailed estimate shortly after the site visit and were then available for questions on the estimate and changes. Once the bid was accepted they clearly communicated when they would come to do the work. The team that installed the windows showed up with a positive attitude (much appreciated when you have people working in your home!) and were happy to answer any questions I had or make small adjustments as requested. They put extra care into the installation including fixing some rot on one window sill that they could have just covered up and ignored. Highly recommended! read more

We are so grateful to Tom for his recent service. Tom installed our new entry door on our home and the project came out absolutely beautiful. Tom went above and beyond to help us and was very knowledgeable about the door her was installing. He showed up on time and got started very promptly. We chose to work with them because of their knowledge and genuine care for doing their work right. We are first time home buyers so we had no idea what the process was of getting a new door installed.We ended up contacting Minnesota 1st Choice for a quote and Bill showed up in a timely fashion and helped us every step of the way. With his help he we were able to create a door that would fit great in our home. We are very pleased with their work and appreciate their going above and beyond. Minnesota's First Choice did an AMAZING job on my Windows & doors at a very reasonable price.  The employees were very respectful & friendly & worked hard to get the job done even though they ran into a few issues as my doors were installed poorly prior to me purchasing the home.  Minnesota's First Choice easily overcame the issues & I couldn't be happier with the results!  I love coming home & admiring how great my home now looks!  I couldn't be more satisfied & plan on hiring them again for new siding in the near future!!  Great company!! read more
