The layout is a bit different... - sharp angle right in the door with a short uneven 'hall' - bench seating with no backs to wait - it felt like I had to go behind the counter to get to the chair. - kind of open & cramped at the same time - hair washing stations seemed to be in a closet & so close as to bump the other patron to get past... Speaking of hair washing, the chair wasn't that comfortable, but it could have been improved with a back cushion to put my neck/ head at the right angle. Having said all that, the person at the front was super friendly & Renee was there, happy. It seems like the kind of place with lots of loyalty built on relationships. I'm going back because of that. It was a totally different reason for going - not a special event style, but rather a brand new cut. I've been growing my hair for years and decided to donate (so I won't see the waterfall braid I wanted for a long time to come) and the stylist was very accommodating. Although I brought elastics, I didn't bring enough and she supplied them rather than have an uneven cut, which was appreciated. The stylist has a long career in the industry and so I was more assured, especially since she had style and not just a generic cut herself. :-) I went from low back length hair to a bob style and I appreciated her attention to detail with my natural part, shaping and how it would grow out. It was a shock for everyone to see the change and reviews from friends, family & co-workers was positive. I've set up my next appointment with her and would like to get more creative next time. I feel confident in moving in that direction because in chatting she was recommending current trends and also discussed the evolution of styles she's seen in her career. As a side note, my stylist was informative and shared that if I hadn't wanted to donate my hair, it would have been swept up and sent to another program where female prisoners use it to make booms to absorb oil from ocean spills. I appreciate the environmental thinking. I've left it at a 3 star, not because this stylist was only okay (she was great!), but because I've encountered a couple of inexperienced people at this location in past that didn't inspire my loyalty to them, the cut, or the experience and would just try again over the years because the location was convenient. I never did connect with the owner after my original review, but not for her lack of trying. I am incredibly busy (10-12hr days) and it sometimes takes me a lot of effort to make time for myself.

Like she was 'put out' to be there, spent her time talking 'over me' about herself (as I am sitting between them) to her hairstylist- as if I was not there, and like she was bored with her job, and like my day/I did not matter. I saw Jocelyn who is Deva certified. The salon also cooperates with the local Curl Warehouse which is another fab resource. CS 1912 is in a gorgeous heritage house. I think it might be faster to get here than it was to get to my previous salon downtown. Jocelyn took ample time to let me talk about my hair, ask me questions and outline what the plan would be. The receptionist told me that their August booking schedule wasn't in however she would leave a note and assured me that my wedding party was booked in and that they would call me as soon as they had the August schedule to confirm my appointment. I called back a second time, in May, to add my mom to the reservation and once again the receptionist assured me that I had my wedding appointment booked and they would call me ASAP when they received the August calendar. It's now July 14th, 2012 and I have heard nothing from the salon. I was anxious because I haven't heard anything back from Fringes so I called them to confirm my appointment and they tell me I was never scheduled in and that they can't do nothing for me, that they've booked another wedding and I'm out of luck. The salon never followed up with me or apologized for almost ruining my wedding. Can you imagine if I had never called to confirm and just showed up on my wedding day expecting that I had an appointment? I will never go back for any reason. My hair was blond and has been for many, many years. His ass't Linda took me to a chair and promptly started to wash my hair. I asked her if they could give me a shine toner/gloss and she said yes. Ziad then came out, looked at my hair and told Linda the toner to use. The toner she used, turned me into a brunette. I was horrified. Ziad told me that he was the expert and he would call me if he needed my assistance. (What???). Then, he decided to use a color remover - left it up to Linda to monitor. My hair then turned auburn! When I showed a picture of me from my phone from last week, he told me that it was not the color I came in with. He basically called me a liar. Ziad is pompous, scarcastic, egotistical, rude and completely lacks customer service skills. He did NOT take responsibility for his errors!
