A review for my therapist is long over due! Let me just begin by saying she is the most down to earth therapist I've ever worked with... and I had a few therapists before her that I didn't feel as connected with, so I know what I'm talking about. I love that Maritza is super caring and makes you feel very welcomed in her office, her space shows that she takes pride in creating a nice environment for her clients...she keeps adult coloring books, free journals and coloring pencils/markers out in her waiting room, along with snacks and tiny water bottles and other stuff and will also offer to make you tea with honey once you're in session (this is a first for me, I feel so spoiled!).
I see her for individual counseling and we have done EMDR (can't remember what that stands for, but it works!) to work on some of my traumas, but mostly the focus of my work is on my relationships and me becoming a better partner. She is trained in EFT, which I think stands for Emotionally Focused Therapy (?) and because she specializes in working with couples is really good at helping me understand ways in which I'm doing things right as a partner and also in identifying areas where I can improve. She always has great recommendations (books, websites, YouTube videos, etc.) again, I've never had a therapist that is so full of resources/suggestions for me to continue doing work outside of the office. My partner is seeing a therapist she recommended and we are getting ready to do some couple's counseling next, the only bummer is that she cannot see us as a couple because she is my individual therapist, but I think I'm good with that, I don't want to share her :)
My favorite part in working with Maritza aside from everything else is that she offers to do grounding exercises like guided meditation in the session and even energy healing techniques like Reiki and Pranic Healing (unlike past therapists who have never offered this kind of stuff or maybe have only recommended I look into it and I didn't really feel the support behind their suggestion). She's really big on getting you to connect with yourself. Anyway, I can keep going on and on about her, but I won't. Just do yourself a favor and call her if you're looking for a therapist that will make you love therapy, you won't regret it! read more
