After experiencing the food and service here I needed a few days to digest things before writing…read morethis review. This is a cute little pizza shop in a strip mall - I stopped in to grab a bite to eat while traveling through the area on my way to the airport. The restaurant dining area was clean and free of any clutter and the hostess and server was extremely friendly and attentive and was quick to welcome me and take my drink and food order. I ordered the 9' "meat lover's" pizza minus the bacon, the ingredients were kinda clunky but plentiful - although the restaurant wasn't busy it seemed my order was somewhat rushed it was a little undercooked in my opinion and lacked any favor even when I covered it with the red pepper flakes - the thin crust seemed to be premade and lacked any chew and definitely wasn't crispy very generic and bland - the sauce was just mediocre I figured it came from a can and also lacked any complexity. This is not the pizza I was expecting or hoping for and it's doubtful that I'll return anything soon. They have a number of positive things going on here, it's a cute venue with amazing service but the quality of the food and preparation could use some work...

Other than that, the place is great. So if you want your pizza cut correctly be sure to ask. Also new owner = new menu so I took some pictures.

After a few months I gave it another try and fell in love. Their food is exceptional. They make their own sauce there (instead of that cheap pre-made junk). And they definitely give you a great portion size. I've tried a lot of things on their menu and can't complain about any of them. Its great to order out or dine in - I've never had to wait a long time (unless busy). The only thing I have negative to say is some of the staff don't seem friendly. One woman seemed like she hated her job and I can tell when I call to order if it's her because she's very rude sounding on the phone and just hangs up when the order was given. Some others are very nice though, the servers are usually on top of things as far as getting orders right and making sure you have everything. I would encourage people to go here if you enjoy Italian food. It's definitely a place to drop that well earned penny.

It's the easiest decision when we can't agree on what to eat and just need a quick, reliable meal everyone will enjoy. The service is always great, and the food is consistently good. We usually add their Greek salads, which the whole family loves. The pizza itself is a real reminder of the New York style we miss, and that alone keeps us coming back. Even the interior is just like any authentic pizza place you'd find in Brooklyn! Reliable, local, and exactly what we need on those crazy days.

Nestled right into the charm of Canal Street, this small, quaint pizza tavern feels like a natural extension of New Smyrna Beach itself: inviting, authentic, and quietly confident in what it delivers. The garlic knots are non-negotiable. Perfectly crunchy on the outside with a soft, pillowy center, they hit the table with an immediate wave of buttery garlic aroma that tells you you're in the right place. One bite confirms it -- bold flavor, ideal texture, and executed with precision. Easily among the best garlic knots you'll find anywhere. Prima separates itself through craftsmanship. Homemade hot honey, house-pickled onions, and carefully selected toppings show a kitchen that cares about the details. Nothing feels mass-produced; every component tastes intentional. I've long been a fan of their pizza, but after trying the Sicilian, there's a new leader in the clubhouse. Thick yet remarkably airy, with a beautiful structure and deep flavor, it balances comfort and sophistication in a way that keeps you reaching for "just one more" slice. Equally memorable is the staff -- outstanding across the board. Attentive without hovering, friendly without being scripted, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. The kind of team that elevates the entire experience and makes you want to return. Prima Pizza Cucina isn't chasing trends; it's quietly perfecting the fundamentals while adding thoughtful, creative touches. In a town known for local character, this is exactly the type of place that defines a dining scene.

We were staying at a hotel across the street and decided to dine here our first night. I have been craving pizza and while browsing the pictures on Yelp, this place matched what I was looking for. We arrived about an hour prior to closing. We were hoping to be in and out so we could catch a launch. We were greeted immediately and led to a table with menus and a smile. Quickly after sitting, Erin greeted us and offered us to order drinks. I ordered a glass of wine and hubs ordered a beer. Erin brought our drinks over and offered to show us the specials, which were pictures on a tablet and she described each dish. I thought that was awesome. We ordered a half order of the Rosemary Focaccia, which came out quickly and the pieces were huge! We placed our order for dinner. I requested a half regular/ half white pizza, which I was granted and hubs ordered a pepperoni pizza. The manager delivered our pizza and informed me the White pizza is the best, which he was not wrong. I did prefer the white over the regular. We loved it so much that we decided to visit our next night. We arrived a little earlier than the previous night and it was busier. Rebecca was our server this night. We decided to order a bottle of wine to share since we were both planning on pasta. They had a lasagna special so hubs went with that, while I decided on the Alfredo pasta and a Caesar salad. Hubs also ordered a side of risotto. The food took a little longer than the previous night but not super long. The lasagna was one of the biggest portions I have ever seen! My Alfredo arrived and was dry. I requested extra Alfredo sauce, which Rebecca retrieved for me. It was not Alfredo or at least genuine Alfredo. It was the gloppiest "Alfredo" I have ever seen and turned me off. I cannot even describe or imagine what ingredients made it that way. Since I did insulin and did not eat all the pasta, I opted for dessert. We ordered the Tiramisu. Rebecca returned and informed us they ran out out of Tiramisu. I didn't want the other choices so we asked for the check. Rebecca returned a couple minutes later saying they did have Tiramisu? Okay so we ordered it. It was good; could have used more ladyfingers, espresso, and liquor in my opinion. We did not return after that but if in the area again, we will come here for pizza.

The pizza crust was a bit chewy. Drinking a coke with each bite made it palatable. The photo shows how small it was for $17. SERVICE: The real reason for the low review was the service. The restaurant has about 34 seats and four were occupied, plus us. She ignored us. When she finally came over, she did not say hello, did not introduce herself, did not say welcome. She said. "yeah?" We ordered. She did bring the food. She plopped the two Coke bottles on the table. We had to ask for glasses and ice. A big sigh and a huff but she did bring the glasses. When we were done eating, she came by with the credit card machine and said, "Cannoli?" We said no thank you just the bill. She walked away. Then she cleared a table (one couple left) and no one else came in. She straightened the chairs, made personal phone calls, walked around and finally brought the bill. We could not understand why she acted that way. We were nicely dressed, were polite, no complaints made. Nothing negative on our part. Even if she was having a bad day, there was no reason to be like that to us. There are so many restaurants in this area where you are treated nicely. It will be a while before we give this place a second chance.
