This weekend I went to H Mart to buy some oranges for Chinese New Year. We give them as gifts to family and friends when we visit their homes. Shocked, they were selling three for $3.99. The frugal Chinese shopper in me says, no way am I paying that price. Went to Trader Joe's instead and they were selling a bag of eight for $4.99. I even told the girl who was stacking the oranges how H Mart had the nerve to charge so much. Lol. As I continued to shop around the store, the girl came up to me with another bag of oranges and said take this bag instead it has nine (instead of 8) oranges. The fact that she took the time to look for me is what Trader Joe's is all about. That totally made my day. The workers go above & beyond. And don't get me started on the cashiers, I always enjoy saying hi to them and engaging in some friendly conversation. If you can't find a product, a worker will walk you to the aisle. Trader Joe's has me as a loyal customer for life. On another note, oranges are incredibly sweet and juicy right now. Go get yourself a bag.

A little too spartan and too much variation between branded and unfamiliar items. Now with tariffs poised to destroy the trucking industry I knew I better figure it out so I can stash more cash. Btw a pox on all your houses if you contributed to this. Anyway. Ive gone a couple times in the past 2 weeks and there are things I quite like there: the salted butter, shredded cheeses, breakfast sausage, and fruit punch are always priced right. Small bags of produce like sprouts and broccoli work well for me since I'm usually solo and can eat them before they go bad. The hodge podge aisle is fun to shop too. I never buy but I like looking at all of the gadgets and seasonal items. Perhaps when we emerge from this impending depression, I'll indulge. Anyway, I can't do all my shopping here but it fills in the gaps nicely. Between this, Costco and a TJs run here or there I'm good. It won't look perfectly orderly or always well-stocked. But, if you can transcend the psychops of traditional grocery shopping you'll leave with an extra dollar or two in your pocket.

Wanted a beach chair but they did t have it . I also saw tomatoes at 90 cents in the Maryland location but didn't get it cheap here . They were about 1.99 or more in the north Brunswick location . I like their bakery . Good products and not that pricey. Service can be better . Not many employees around to help. Good shop for all household items. Lots of parking outside .. nice locality .. pretty cold to rt 1... good experience overall .. 4 stars ..

So on the strength of that alone I was ret to visit. My husband has been crying for a roti maker for the truck - I can see how rolling fresh roti on the dashboard may not be the move - but I wanted to see the options somewhere other than Temu or TikTok Shop. So I suggested we go to the "Spanish market" since they basically have the same thing for tortillas. What a delight! So many fruits, vegetables, and chilis I had never heard of. There were great "jarlic" mixes and the meat selection was legit too - saw the ribs I love and many varieties of chorizo. We found a lot of tortilla/roti makers from wood to cast iron. We were just window shopping though. Prices on American staples (relax. I mean the stuff you see on the "American" aisle in an overseas grocery store) like kids cereals, fruit juices, and frozen foods were high. But the items that were more related to "local" cuisine seemed competitive. Anyway, parking is good, the vibes are right, and workers are busy stocking the shelves yet not too busy to say hello. We love that. As an aside, I try to be unobtrusive in spaces like these, (ESPECIALLY in times like these!). I am protective of the sanctity of my Black barber shop and beauty salon and aim to extend that understanding to the cultural gathering spots of others. Not saying YOU have to roll like that - maybe a grocery store is just a grocery store. But I'm just telling you how *I* roll. So will I be a regular? Nah. But when I'm after a specific spice blend, or cut of meat, or dried chili, yeah I'll run through.

This place had a great selection for groceries, a helpful staff, and a tropical, homelike Vibe.read more
