I need a CPNL procedure, and I was referred to Franklin Lee by the VA. Dr Franklin Lee declined to…read moredo my procedure, and he and his staff never contacted me to say that he refused to take me on as a patient. For the longest time, I was told that he had not had time to review my case. I have no choice but to go to Pali Momi Emergency. Dr. Lee has no honor and defies his Hippocratic oath when he refuses to treat me.

They have about 10 rotating urologists dealing with functional and anatomical issues involving the…read morekidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, testicles and penis. Noticed alot of older patients in the waiting room because we all start having urine retention problems as we age. Urologists make BANK! Take note, future MDs. As an authorized advocate on behalf of my parent, I was at some appointments with DR. JAMES NG for a BPH issue that causes urine incontinence. By the time they hit their 70s, up to 90% of males have BPH! Father was on oral meds first (2 kinds) but they weren't working. Doctor finally recommended surgery. My father tried his best to research (on his own! With his limited English and computer proficiency) all prostate surgeries currently performed and had an idea of the best ones. When he asked Dr. Ng about the different types, the doctor coldly brushed off dad's questions and did NOT educate or inform dad on his options. He simply said, "I do the TURP. I would recommend the TURP. We don't do those other ones here." The Pali Momi Urology website states "Our urologists approach each patient's care with both medical innovation and sensitivity....to achieve the best results while minimizing pain and recovery time. [Our] urologists offer a multidisciplinary, innovative approach...committed to collaborating with experts across all specialties in tailoring the most beneficial treatment..." Your urologists are NOT medically innovative and do NOT educate your patients on the most minimally invasive procedures if they're ONLY OFFERING THE TURP which is painful and does involve risk of internal bleeds!!! They are definitely NOT offering multidisciplinary practices committed to collaborating with doctors in other specialities. WHY? Because I did research on my own and asked about a minimally invasive procedure offered by interventional radiologists called a PAE. No bleeding, less recovery time, costs less than TURP procedures too. The radiology practice I chose stated they needed a referral from dad's urologist. Called Pali Momi last week for the referral, only to get a follow-up call today stating that Dr. Ng will NOT provide the referral because "he doesn't recommend it". Ofc Dr. Ng won't recommend it. Our business and our MONEY are going elsewhere! Okay, they don't do PAEs because they aren't radiology doctors. Then, I'd love to hear what other surgical procedures are offered, HoLAP, HoLEP or PVP lasers? PULs? The office is refusing to provide the referral, fine. Then I asked them to make a note on my father's file that Dr. Ng refused to provide a referral to the radiologist and does not recommend PAEs. The office will not make that note in his medical file. I have to be more involved in my family's medical care. I cannot imagine the number of kupuna who don't have involved progeny or aren't tech savvy themselves AND cannot effectively self-advocate and make informed decisions. Our healthcare system is skewed to benefit the practioners and the insurance companies while we, the patients and consumers stay ignorant. Let me end with a note: There need to be more reviews on medical practices and doctors on multiple platforms for consumers, or if you want to be more specific, patients. Medical care is a necessity and we the patients, or consumers, are very VERY poorly informed on our choices. We have barely any right of choice because there is limited information for us to make educated decisions on who to seek for health needs. I guess this will end our relationship with Dr. Ng moving forward. This is why some patients are fearful to openly criticize or critique doctors on this account - burning bridges. But we all only live one life and Quality Of Life is very important to me and to my family to have. We should always aim to seek the best treatment possible.

This Review is WAY OVERDUE! On Feb. 2nd, my son was admitted…read morefrom the ER to the 5th floor. There he received excellent treatment! His nurse, Matt, was absolutely great! He was responsive and very caring. My son felt safe with him. The night nurse, Cliff, was also very good too! Case managers, Beth and Tainika, kept our family up-to-date with our son's status. My son still has a slight yellow tinge to his skin, but he is stable and getting stronger thanks to the great care provided by the wonderful Pali Momi staff of doctors and nurses! Mahalo!

It's very difficult to rate Pali Momi because I feel that overall, their ER services and lab are…read morethe BEST on all of Oahu and the best hospital out of most of the hospitals I've been to in the mainland while my spouse was in the military. I would love them just because of their ER. If I were to move to Kahala, Kailua or Waianae, I would still drive to their ER in the dead of night over any other ER (if I could). I have never in my life described an ER visit as a service, but when I go to Pali Momi, it feels like a service. Like GREAT service for the money you're paying. I'm being catered to even when I have to wait a little for the Dr, the ER STAFF just feels like an ELEVATED level of care and not unprofessional or ratchet like other ER staff from other hospitals I've been to. The wait time here is always the shortest of any other ER we have gone to for other people. You won't catch the staff talking loudly or badly about a patient (had that happen at Castle ER). This ER will have have short, low murmured, light interactions and even when they're updating the next crew on patients before leaving - they are actually very discreet. With their ER, the staff station is just a comfortable or soothing buzz in the background and not like other ERs where people are talking loudly, yelling or laughing over each other while someone's in excruciating pain just a few feet away. I love how their ER has grown and how Pali Momi has UTILIZED their space on the first floor to make more rooms for the ER so that patients are not waiting long outside. That alone also adds to you feeling like they make efforts and give a damn about the service they provide. Whether you end up in one of the makeshift rooms at the back, I feel like they know how patients feel - once I'm inside - mentally I already feel a little better because I'm one step closer to being seen. The next step is waiting outside to be called and then when you're called they take you in to your room or space. You wait for the Dr., see the Dr, they do what needs to be done, then you either wait to be transferred to a room upstairs or wait for your papers and the nurse or doctor to speak about what you need to do once home or when you get your meds. This ER will CALL YOU shortly after your visit to FOLLOW UP on how you're doing. This is great! Anyway, let's talk about the service of their upstairs staff if you have to stay in the hospital. 1- This hospital is a lot cleaner compared to other hospitals, Queens in town and Straub on King st, but it could still be better. My mom had to stop a maid because she used the SAME flannel that she wiped the room with to wipe the bathroom and SINK!! The sink that nurses put the bottles on for the patient's water flushes for their feeding line or that patients themselves use. And if someone is in the room, they won't come all the way in to mop. I know they probably are just trying not to intrude but pls come in anyway to make sure the room is clean. If someone says they don't want it, fine but some people will appreciate it being cleaned thoroughly even if they're there. 2. The staffs upstairs are mostly great. You do have some very good nurses here, but I've encountered the same male nurse who walked in twice and almost use the SAME gloves he's had from visiting other patients. This is unacceptable as that's how OUTBREAKS happen. Your hospital has an awesome reputation, but that small carelessness from one person can ruin that. 3. Please please for the love of god, change or get a refund from the contractor that provides the sheets. I've been there a few times recently again and each time, the bed sheets do NOT FIT the beds! Please get bigger sheets that won't shrink in the dryer. I feel so bad for the CNAs and nurses when I help change my loved one's bed sheets and it doesn't even fit. To the point where the patient becomes uncomfortable due to the sheet bending the mattress inwards. I hope if we have another stay, that all the too small sheets have been replaced. 4. Keep up the great work. Your lab is very good at drawing blood and putting in IV lines for hard cases. We appreciate that so much. 5. Your insurance ladies are so polite when coming to ask for that and getting it done so we don't have to worry about it. I like that they will come to the patient to complete their paperwork or return their things so the patient doesn't have to come to them if they're unable to. 6. Shout out to your cafeteria. The staff in there is so efficient and kind. The place is clean and comfortable with plenty of seating.
