What can I say? I have grown up with Miller Auditorium in my life, and since we moved back to Kalamazoo several years ago, it has become such a highlight of joy for our family. There is so much going on at Miller...from touring Broadway shows to the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra to special guests to local mainstay Kalamazoo Concert Band. Patron services staffing, under the extremely capable Shannon Rininger, makes sure that each and every staff member that we come into contact with is friendly and helpful (not always the case at big venues, let's be honest). The Marketing and Social media team is ON POINT, with social media that makes me want to just move in and see EVERYTHING ever to cross that stage. But mostly? The wide range of things to see there, the warmth I feel from the staff, and the true connection to the community (via social media and in person) make Miller a gem that Kalamazoo is SO lucky to have.

    So excited for Diavolo

It's so nice that in our community we have such a wonderful theatre that really does attract some amazing performances! Many times I've been to an almost full house here, even on a weeknight. I've seen many shows but tonight I saw Diavolo. It was amazing! The performers were fantastic and the props and sound was great! The seats are comfy, the auditorium itself is set up well with many entrances and many bathrooms. I find the 2nd floor left side bathroom is always less busy! Beer and wine is available for purchase and if you bring your reusable cup back you'll save $2!

Very handicap friendly! We had seats in the front row. They have ramps rather than steps! An usher helped me with my rollator so I didn't pick up too much speed going down the ramp. The seats are large and comfortable. The backs are on a spring so you can lean back and stretch out. Love their adult sippy cups for beer and wine!

I've been to several show's over many years and have regularly had a great experience! Kenny Rogers, Stomp, Menopause the Musical, Lion King and others - and this year I treated myself to become a Broadway subscriber with tickets to all 4 Broadway shows (and an awesome parking pass in the ramp!). I've been to 3 of the 4 so far this season and I just love, love, love it! The concessions are fine - really what more do you need than water and a snack - the women's bathroom lines are usually quite long (but where aren't they?), The volunteers that greet, do coat check, work concessions, usher and clean up are generally very nice and helpful. I look forward to more and more shows here. BTW, Grand tier right is pretty awesome for seating.

This is a great venue for live performances the accoustics are a little lacking especially if you're sitting in the grand tier like I was last night for the Nutcracker ballet with some friends but you can get a pretty good view of the stage no matter where your seats are in the theater it just may be difficult for you to see what's happening if they are singing or what not luckily ballets have no lyrics just lovely music check it out fellow yelpers if you get a chance.

I love when I have the opportunity to go to Miller auditorium for a show because you know you will see and experience top notch entertainment. There are 3 levels of seating. I have sat only in the orchestra section or the mezzanine. Both provide great seats for most shows. The provide a free coat check and offer snacks as well as beer and wine. I tend to park in the parking garage as you can take the pedestrian bridge into the building from the second level of the garage.

We visited Miller Auditorium for the first time last month when we took our six year old to see Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert. The first half of the show had kind of a Drive in theater feel with all the cell phones and talking and even the costumes many our follow concert goers were wearing (including our son) lol. After intermission everyone seemed to settle down and get into the show. It really turned out to be a worthwhile experience which our son truly enjoyed. We were impressed with the ease of parking and getting out of the auditorium and back on the road afterwards.

So first we'll start out with the auditorium. It's nice and water fountains and bathrooms on every level. As well as concessions and depending on the performers merchandise to buy. Did I mention bathrooms on every floor? Because that's a huge plus for me, especially knowing how crowded the intermissions can get. The ushers, staff, and all help I encountered during the show tonight were amazing. They were quick to help us to our seats, along with a brochure, and service with a huge smile! The lobby can get quite crowded, but hey, if I see that, then the show must be good! Getting out can be a tricky task, but patience prevails, wink, wink. If you need to get home, depending on the performance, it might be a bit before getting out. But the traffic flow is directed in a very efficient manner. Meaning, getting out will be a lot easier. So what was it that was just so breathtaking for me? The broadway production of Disney's The Lion King, it really brought back some old childhood memories! The music was beautiful, the dances were well choreographed, the costumes were amazing, and the comic relief was on point! So about where we were sitting. We sat in the middle of the Grand Tier and still could see the stage perfectly. So that's another ten points for the auditorium in my book. Come and let the performances take your breath away!

Ask the Community - Miller Auditorium

How's the neighborhood-is it safe at night to walk a mile or two to the hotel after the evening show?

Yes it is well lit and campus security is around Once off campus, it is still a safe neighborhood. College area isn't a high crime area--high alcohol area, yes!

The building is gorgeous - the lobby is welcoming, the box office is quite handy, and the curb cut is RIGHT in front of the front door. THANK YOU. It seems that the doors to the play open pretty early, so if there are no seats available and you'd like to sit down, head on into the theatre! There is general seating, and the front row has no stairs, as it is on the floor. I think there are 5 or 6 rows, so not many stairs anyway, if this is an issue. It is an open space, small, but inviting. The staff are so kind. The actors, extremely talented. We just saw Beyond the Rainbow: The Judy Garland Musical, and it was some of the best acting I've ever seen. The plays are extraordinary. What was once a…read morerespected, community-focused venue has unfortunately declined--largely due to the behavior of its staff and ushers. The staff were rude and unprofessional, and shockingly unaccommodating toward children. This was especially upsetting given that we were attending a production specifically geared toward families and kids, Annie. Instead of being welcoming or patient, the usher we encountered was dismissive and unfriendly, making it very clear that children and teens are not truly welcome here. This venue is no longer family-friendly, despite advertising family-oriented productions. If you're bringing kids or teens, be prepared for an environment that feels rigid, uninviting, and uncomfortable. What makes this even more disappointing is my long history with the Civic. My family has donated large sums of money (we could have bought a couple homes with the amount we've donated) over the past 30 years because we believed in its mission and its role in the community. Sadly, after this experience, we will no longer be supporting it. The Civic is simply not what it once was. If you're looking for a welcoming, inclusive place to enjoy theater with your family, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Do not take your family to the Civic!

The sound is great since it's such a small theatre. And you can bring food and drink in while the show is going on! I saw a dress rehearsal of John & Abigail and I have to say it didn't arise the interest and love in me as I had hoped. I did feel the expression of love read by the actors, but I wasn't into the lack of movement on stage or the fact that the actors were simply reading on printed paper love letters. Perhaps some paper from the times could have been used, or acting out writing the letters while reading them could have brought me to follow it more. It was a very long hour and half for me! I will however be back to check out more!

Their fuzz drinks (pop plus ice and milk, topped with whipped cream and sprinkles) were a huge hit last night, and I did enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. Pro tip: Order your Christmas Carol tickets as early as possible, because it sells out very early every year and is a beloved Kalamazoo Christmas tradition.

We would love to support local when we can, but we will not be returning here. We were given an instrument that seemed one size too small and sounded like a toy compared to our previous rental instrument from Meyer music. Even my 4 year old said , "eeeeeew" after trying it out for the first time. We rented for one day , called to ask about the returning it and the worker on the phone initially said we could go in and get refunded, but then called back and said we would still be responsible for the charge. He seemed like he didn't know what he was talking about because he kept recommending that we go in and try out the other instruments and said they had a variety to choose from, but we were clearly told the previous day that there was only ONE instrument in stock in the size we needed. Upon returning the instrument the next day, the customer service guy shrugged it off and said "you had the chance to try it," after showing them the picture of their instrument compared to another. The rental instrument was for a very young kid who wouldn't have questioned it. My child's instructors were surprised at the size difference, and mentioned they would recommend continue renting either at Meyer music in Grand Rapids, or even Shar music. We were unable to have a successful lesson with no proper instrument so we left our lesson and went to return the instrument directly. It's been super hard to reach out to the manager at the store. The workers there seem to be untrained and when we when to return the instrument, he took it and said we were all set without even entering anything in the system or getting our name. When asked to get a receipt, he asked for name and proceeded to type something, we ended up with a receipt of our original rental $21.xx, and the receipt also mentioned next billing cycle starts next month, nothing about ending the rental agreement, or instrument being returned. In the photo: left is the actual size we are in, right is the rental. The shoulder rest that we had wouldn't even stay on the violin... it just kept slipping off.....something is clearly not right, and they are not willing to make things right or even admit that a mistake was made. Lesson learned! We hope our experience will help save you the trouble that we experienced.
