Trying to find the venue felt like a fever dream - the inside of the building leading up to Rascals was just a maze of basement backrooms with barely ANY signage. It was very bizarre. When we finally found the actual entrance to Rascals we felt so accomplished. The cover was cash only, but they had an ATM right there. The space is BIG. I can see why it's such a popular venue for line dancing. So much room for activities! We got a drink & some change to tip the performers from the very sweet bartender & found a high top table near the back of the audience space so that we could have a good line of sight to the stage. It didn't take long for us to become chilly. It felt like it was 62 ish degrees inside, & since it's a basement venue with no windows, this felt really cold. Bring layers! Despite the crowd being a bit more subdued than what we're used to, the show still knocked our socks off. The acoustics were well balanced, the space allowed the performers to be creative, & you could see the stage from almost anywhere in the venue. I would definitely come back to Rascals for a special occasion, or maybe even to try their beginner line dancing classes, but I'd remember to dress warmly.

Shemekia Copeland's "Uncivil War" shook the blues from the plaster in the Palace. Her voice needed no amplifying and she demonstrated that throughout the nite! It was like sharing a seat on her couch in her home. The Band was electrified Shemikia's voice to those who sit in the clouds. First time, I had heard her music - it was the name of the album/cd that sent me to Stafford Springs! - "Uncivil War" True confession. No Red or Blue here just true life experience, history, present and a hope to change the future by LISTENING to the "messages" she sends in her music need to be heard by all. Shemekia Copeland is our 21st Century Blues singer and mother - seer of all she sings.

In a matter of minutes this Podunk Palace was filled with what looked to be the whole damn county! The place absolutely exploded with music lovers and musicians there for the jam. The photo I uploaded was one I took that day. The little kid with Joey walked in with an acoustic guitar in a KMart bag, I thought "how cute.. he's going to play the Best of Barney"... again... the girl is WRONG... that little seven year old calls out Robert Johnson "Sweet Home Chicago" and then plays and sings right along with the professional musicians he's up there with. The crowd went wild and continued to dance and sing along through the rest of the night. What a great atmosphere!!!! The quality of the featured artists is way up there (Joey Vellucci, Lisa Marie and Scott Bronnes among them). It's a total blast and draws a full house every time. If you're in the area on a Sunday drive this is a WELL WORTH IT stop! The Jams are every Sunday from 4-8pm and they rotate the featured artists!!

When you go to a packed concert like this, all the streets are filled and even the parking garage nearby is filled from top to bottom. Best to go early to find parking even if it's not good.
