This was a GREAT tour. Took tour on a Sunday but windy Saturday. Nice sized group. Delightful tour guide, Brittany. First a quick history of the farm. Then we met one of the stallions and fed him carrots. We got in our cars and drove to meet some mares and foals. Took a bit for the mares to come and greet us but they all did eventually. Very friendly horses, especially when you have carrots. Lastly we saw the yearling fillies. Beautiful setting. This was so fun, highly recommend if in the area. read more

We had a great time on our tour of the farm with guide Rynn. It shows that she has a love for the farm and the horses. We got to pet and feed lots of horses. Saw several foals as young as three weeks old. read more

If I could give this farm 10 stars I definitely would! This was truly the highlight of my visit to Kentucky! Our tour guide was not only professional and insightful but a true burst of sunshine! With COVID going around it's hard to get tickets on a short notice to tour farms, lucky we got 2 for here. Tour guy was great, funny and very personal. We got to meet, feed and pet fillys and yearlings. Also got to see and feed peppermints to Oscar Performance, a magnificent stallion. The horses are beautiful, the farm is gorgeous, the grounds are immaculate. You can tell how much pride this family has in caring for, breeding and raising horses. read more

We had a really good time on the tour of Mill Ridge Farm through visit horse country! The tour guide, Kelly, did a great job of breaking down what a nursery farm is and horses in general. I really liked the format of the tour as a horse safari where we drove around to see horses of different ages. We loved feeding them carrots and interacting with the horses!! Highly recommend this tour/visit if you're in Lexington. read more

Our guide was amazing and full of information. We really enjoyed the private tour. The foals were adorable. We loved feeding carrots to the coals, mares and the cute bunch of spunky yearling colts. This is a tour you should not miss! Beautiful farm and happy horses! read more

It was The best experience I've had at a horse farm. First time ever got to feed and pet horses. They provided carrots to feed to the mother horses and we were able to pet the babies. It was sooo much fun. Our guide new so much about the farm and most of the horses and there names. For the price you can't beat!!! Definitely going to bring more people when we come back to KY. read more

We had an amazing time at Mill Ridge Farm feeding the horses and just learning about the culture there in general! This place is truly an institution and has produced so many high caliber race horses, that their hard work and commitment is commendable. After a day at Keeneland, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to take a morning tour of Mill Ridge. The passion, pride, and love for horses is felt in every corner of this 6th-generation farm. While on tour and learning about the process of breeding horses and what life looks like for a race horse, the home grown authenticity of Mill Ridge and their values was inspiring and exciting. More than anything, our tour at Mill Ridge gave us the curiosity to learn more about this special culture, as well as strengthened our respect for it. We cannot wait to return to Mill Ridge in the future for another tour to expose our family and friends to the same excitement we felt during our tour. read more

Our company, Travel the Trail , visited Mill Ridge on Oaks Day. We gathered as a group into a breeding shed where crates were set up as seats. Price Bell, son of the owner, Headley Bell, welcomed us with a big smile. He then proceeded to talk at length about his family farm and the daily operations . He was very approachable and friendly. As luck would have it, mares were out and about with their foals, and we all got to see many of them in the foaling barn. I liked the fact that we weren't rushed; in fact, Price asked me if we needed to be somewhere by a certain time. Over lunch, I asked our group about the farm tour, and they unanimously said it was the highlight of their Oaks Day . Kudos to you, Mill Ridge. Had a wonderful time touring Mill Ridge today. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, open to any and all questions. The mares and foals are a delight to see and feed carrots to (mares only)!! Their stallion, Oscar Performance is impressive. The history and background of the farm is a study in the development of the modern breed of race horse. Well worth your time to visit. read more

Last year all the participants gathered at Keeneland for fantastic food, networking, and learning opportunities, before venturing out to a variety of thoroughbred farms. Audra and I experienced the wonder that is Taylor Made, and although it wasn't my first farm tour, it was one I'll never forget. This year, COVID did away with the large group gathering, but the farm tours were able to take place as scheduled. The majority of farms are stud-centric, but - ironically - at Denali Stud you won't find any stallions or breeding sheds. More on that to come. Founded in 1990 by former New Jersey jockey Craig Bandoroff and his wife, Holly, Denali Stud is a 300-acre mare and foal property - i.e. a nursery - situated in picturesque Paris, KY. So what's with the name? I wondered the same. 'Denali' is a mountain range and Eskimo word meaning 'to aspire to greater heights,' and the word 'stud' is synonymous with 'farm' in Europe. Voila! The four barns, office, and other buildings on the property run almost completely on solar energy. Although the farm has produced many successful athletes, some of their most beloved clients date back to the humble beginnings of the farm. Craig, a passionate outdoorsman, has taken great care to curate a variety of trees around the property, carefully labeling many with their type and year planted. As he and his wife prepare for retirement in Lexington, their son and his wife have begun building their own residence on property. Our tour started at a large, centrally-located field full of mamas-to-be. And let me tell you, swollen bellies won't stop those ladies from stampeding toward you in pursuit of a peppermint and a good cheek scratching! From there we got to visit with mares and foals in an adjacent field, before venturing on to the foal bar - where the magic happens. Each stall was occupied by either a mare very close to (or past!) her due date, or a mother and new foal, and I mean NEW - a couple of the foals were only two days old! Pay close attention when you're walking through the barn, as you may recognize some high profile sires; I counted at least three babies by Tapit and one by Real Quiet. Another nearby barn houses some older foals with their mamas, and pregnant mares with less imminent due dates. While Denali Stud is the most recognizable farm in the family's portfolio, there are two others, both of which take their names from mountain ranges: K2, which is dedicated to maiden and barren mares, and Lotse, a 5-barn yearling division. Our guide was primarily Alexis - with additional input from Aly - and her knowledge of the industry, farm, animals, and many other business facets was really impressive. Passion and enthusiasm likes hers is what gets people excited about tourism, and I'm so glad Denali Stud participated in the event this year!

At $8 for adults & $3 for children (4 & under free), it was more affordable than going to a regular theater where you'd only get to watch one movie. Their radio station played oldies until time for the movie, so it felt like we were in the heyday of drive in theaters. I liked that they had a cartoon short before the double feature, & that there was a countdown before both movies so I knew how long I had to get through the concession stand. Having actual food there is a big bonus! Nothing beats dinner & a movie, especially when you can get it all in one place. The butter machine for the popcorn is on the customer side, so you can get as much as you want. We got drinks, candy, popcorn, a pizza & an order of cheese sticks. The prices were reasonable & it was all good--fast & fresh. The screen was crisp, clear, big & bright--good quality & enjoyable to watch. In my opinion, an employee parking people, or at least driving through before the movie starts, would make the experience even better. Most of the customers were taking an extra spot for their chairs, which is against the rules & resulted in a lot of people having to park adjacent to the screen or far away, & there were some tall trucks toward the front that blocked the bottom of the screen. Despite that, it was a great experience & we can't wait to go back!
