I go to the Elisabethmarkt almost every day as, our dog loves walking around there looking for food ;-) I have walked past this place so many times and always wanted to stop but never have, until today. I was looking for a decent coffee and, as my usual place is closed on Mondays I decided to try this one out. I am so glad I did.
It's a tiny little cafe with seating for about 6-10 people inside and, they have a nice set of cushions outside, to sit on warm days. It's really a one man shop and the guy that runs the place speaks pretty ok English. It's a shop largely about Milk and milk products.
They have a nice selection of Frischkase they serve with bread, milk shakes, coffee, hot chocolate of many varieties and some fresh juices and smoothies. They have a small selection of sandwiches with cheese and so on and, a delicious looking set of cakes and desserts.
I had a nice sandwich for lunch and, ended up having a banana shake instead of coffee, which was also nice. I noticed as I was sitting inside they have milchreis and, I asked the owner about it. As it turns out, it is English style rice pudding and it took him a month to perfect the recipe. This is something you simply don't find in Munich and, I was delighted he had it. Commonly served in England and also in India as dessert after a meal, they have a slightly different twist and have many toppings you can get :-) He offered me a taste with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top and it was divine :-)
I am glad I finally made it here. I will definitely be back for milchreis alone ;-)) The owner said it was quite popular with the locals and, he agreed that it was hard to find in Munich. A gorgeous cafe that is open only during the days and, I have a good reason to come to the markets during the day ;-)) A little gem in Schwabing :-)) read more
