Once thing is certain: their bread and croissants (which I used to adore in the past) are not anywhere as good, fresh and crispy as they used to be anymore and rather feel a day old. I tried it on several different days throughout my stay and continued to be disappointed. Will try the competition (Baeckerei Voland) next time who happen to sell their fresh and crispy baking goods until 9 am in the train station. PREVIOUS REVIEW What a blessing to finally - after missing it for many years in the USA - finding effortlessly some of the best bakeries/pastry shops when visiting good ol' Switzerland. The Steiner Café - with multiple locations - is just one of many. But the bottom line is, the breads, the selection of breads and rolls, and the pastries are sooooo wonderful and delicious. Why does it seem impossible in the USA to replicate such palate elegance, avoiding excessive sweetness and going for quality/freshness rather than size. Single purchases or full-core brunch - all equally seducing. Leaving a tear behind...!

I recommend you also get the desert known simply as 'Clown' as it's nice to see this item arrive to the table at any age.

Oh, what could have been... Restaurant L'Unico should provide a heaven on earth dining…read moreexperience... it has all the makings of a great restaurant! However, delivery fails start to finish! For an expensive "fine dining" spot, this place does not deliver. Avoid at all costs! Let's begin with the location and our waiter, Alfred. It's a "non-smoking" hotel, but is reminiscent of the 80s in the US when they placed smokers right next to the "non-smoking section." There is a smoker's lounge on the first floor of the hotel, which makes the entire floor reek like an ashtray (think casino!). There are dozens of guests smoking just outside the doors, including the restaurant, which pumps even more cigarette smoke into first floor and the dining room! Disgusting way to eat, none of the food or wine tastes right in a smoke-laced room. The hotel allows a minority of guests to ruin the restaurant for most diners. Alfred, a smoker, greeted us reeking of smoke... 1/2 a table away, it was nauseating! Which also likely explains his prolonged absences from our table, outside on a smoking break! Service abominable... it took 90 minute after we finished our entrees to get dessert and the check. The host serviced most tables around us, one diner simply got up and left. Let's mention food. Asparagus soup was good, as was the house salad. The risotto was very undercooked, which was one whole dish plus side at our table. The veal saltimbocca was cooked well, but quite salty. The red wine was served room temperature, obviously not cared for in a climate controlled atmosphere! Ice cream for dessert was mediocre, the chocolate ice cream tasted freezer burned, and was only 1/2 a scoop. The restaurant could be great. But, management has to step up and deliver the "smoke free" hotel promised in all its advertising. If you're a smoker, this place is for you. For non-smokers, the hotel and restaurant fails miserably. We're here several more days, but definitely will not dine at this place again! Do not dine here if you want a quality meal in a "smoke free" environment!

The menu is quite substantial complete with a nice selection of meats, including delicious aged beef and a large homemade pasta menu which you essentially pick the sauce and pair it with the pasta. The restaurant itself was actually nicely decorated and had a pretty good ambiance but the food and service honestly fell a bit short. The pasta was decent, but it was honestly a small portion and a bit bland. The service was below average as well as I had to wait quite a bit of time before greeted and once seated the server seemed disinterested... Overall, great location and decor but not all that great of a dinner experience. Pros- Ambiance Location Presentation Decor Meat case Great cocktail selection Homemade pasta Bread dipping sauces Cons- Very average food Below average service Waited approx 10 mins before being greeted and shown to table (wasn't busy at all) Small portions

An excellent artisanal brunch in a mellow setting…read more Three of us shared two house-made granola's with yogurt and a Justus Brunch: hot drink, juice, rolls, butter & jam, cheese, sliced aged meats, and eggs (we chose scrambled). The granola & yogurt was excellent (especially the fresh fruit), the eggs fluffy, the cheeses ranging from almost runny to very sharp (there was some debate among the waitstaff as to whether we'd gotten the Sbrinz or Gruyère). In addition, the atmosphere was homey and relaxed --- we felt like we were family friends visiting an old farmhouse, rather than waiting in line for an upholstered booth. The front half of the shop sells most of the same food and ingredients (including real molasses, as opposed to the corn syrup "molasses spread" at some grocery stores). We did notice some of the veggie bins didn't look to have very high turnover --- be sure to check your produce.

It is a mix of a sustainable store within a cafe where you can buy basic organic food either to prepare at home, have some takeaway or stay and sit down at one of the tables. I only had proper lunch once but boy that was very good! It was well spiced and had the taste of "I cooked it with love" in it. So I defenitly want to go back to check out that love flavour again. They usually have one meal with meat and one vegeterian option. Always a daily soup which you may buy to go. They also sell small bakery goods such as cakes, tartes or bagels. They use interesting ingredients, such as brie with some sort of fruit or scamorzza cheese with carrots or beef roast, and much more. They seem to have vegan options, too. Today it was a sandwich with hummus spread. So there is coffee, there is food, nice staff, everything is sustainable but thats not the end of the list yet: the MAGAZINES!!! It is very dangerous for me to sit down and grab a magazine. Because they have a fantastic selection of brain food such as Swiss magazines, newspapers and I always feel tempted to bing read. I just realised: still not the end of the list! There is free wifi. Yes, the world is a good place to live in. STOP! Still not the end of the list: when the weather is warm enough you even can sit outside. Now you're flabbergasted, aren't ya? :) So why not 5 stars? I think there is just a tiny bit of room for improvent and maybe one day I will change it to 5 stars.
