Midye Dolma is my favorite snack food in Turkey which I absolutely can't find back in the states. Every time I visit Alacati I immediately seek out Midyeci Sakir for delicious stuffed mussels. You can find the Midyeci employees usually walking around the Alacati Surf Paradise/ Myga beaches. If you want some immediately, there is usually a vendor sitting at the end of the Surf Garden Cafe, you'll recognize him by his bucket of mussels.
For someone who is not from Turkey- what is Midye Dolma? Midye Dolma is a mussel that's been stuffed with aromatic rice. It is traditionally made by cooking a rice filling separately, and then gently taking the raw mussels, prying them open and stuffing them with rice. The stuffed mussels are then left to cook in a pan with boiling water. The end result is a delicious snack which is best eaten with lemon squeezed on top. After a few hours of windsurfing this is the perfect snack to keep you full until dinner time. And I know what you're thinking, isn't it dangerous to eat seafood from a street vendor? In the 15 years I've been coming to Turkey I haven't gotten sick from eating these mussels and I have a pretty sensitive stomach. read more
