When I called Allen to give me an estimate for drainage issues I was having he came that same day. He walked inside my gate and pointed out drainage issues before I could even mention my concerns to him. My issues seemed very obvious to Allen and we discussed possible options for remediation. Allen (and his crew) installed two french drains to help move water away from my house and In turn to hopefully abate the water that creeps into my basement. Allen said it would take two days of work and all will be good. I spoke with Allen on a Friday and he started work on Tuesday! Gio and his crew went above and beyond what I had expected. Allen and Gio took the time to answer all my questions and I will be hiring Midwest Pond to creat a courtyard for me in July. I needed to repair a recirculating fountain with an underground reservoir in front of my home. No other company was willing to even come out to look at the job. Alan ( the owner of Midwest Pond Design) promptly called me and looked at pictures then set up an appointment to check out the problem the following day. I had some drainage issues where the standing water would cause my pump to engage every 7 seconds during a storm. Allan came out and gave me a good price so I agreed. When he started the work we discovered that we had to drain further than anticipated. He went with a new plan and did not change the price. Great service and great job. We had our patio made about a year ago. It started way later than it was planned. We pay after was finished just to find out it actually wasn't. We had to wait from November until June to have filled all cracks between pavers. The weeds were already poking out. I called several times to make them come and finished the project. After not about a year pavers started shifting. One is already loose and the crack is getting bigger. Over a month I was told that they will come to fixed, unfortunately no one showed up till now. Also the sides where the polymeric sand was , is all gone and it looks like is not finished. Now I have to find different company to fix the loose paver since they are not interested to fix it. read more

My brick front porch was falling apart. Allen identified the problem (it was designed with the bricks overhanging, so there would always be a risk of them snapping off), trimmed the bricks to avoid the overhang, and reattached everything. It was a small job, but the price was fair and he did the work when he said he would. It looks good, and I'm satisfied with the results. read more

I am mostly disappointed with the timeline and lack of promise and clean up courtesy. I am now spending more time and money to clean up dead spots in grass from the near 10 months (including winter) where brick and patio items sat while ALLEN kept on delaying my small project. It was simply a patio re-do, I did upgrade to add new brick and reused other in another area. All to which was not completed from Aug till June the following year!! Truly disappointed with this whole process and then eliminated another project and business for ALLEN... to which I am sure he could use for his family. No project is too small, yet I felt mine was not priority and I paid well more than 50% per contract and yet still had to call and get him to finish. Don't use this guy. Total scam. Promised a bunch of work. Had to chase him the entire time. The worst. Came in with a smile right away, made promises, and then barely delivered. He promised 3 guys for 3 days. Delivered 1 guy, whom came the first day and did nothing. Came back, apologized profusely, explained the guy was new. Then the guy did some work, and left all the muck and limbs on the lawn till I had to call Allen to get it cleaned many times. Again, made promises that he would come, and didn't. Till finally I stressed how I did not appreciate the mess and was having people over. He finally came before a family party. He was going to clean and maintain my area, but barely made an effort. He will not refund a portion of the money. Now he did this with a smile and was never curt or rude. However, total scam. Hired new group, and they kept their word and are cheaper. read more

My experience with this company was absolutely terrible. I chased him for over a year to finish my pond and he never did. He would give me a date and then not show up. He had every excuse in the book including his wife being very sick and I fell for them all. He got it to about 60 % done and said he would like full payment so he could pay his crew. I have never paid in full before a job was done, but for some reason I felt sorry for him. Big mistake. He left me with a mess and just plain never came back. As I said, I chased him for a year to no avail. I had to pay "Ponds Inc. of Illinois" to finish the job and they were absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend them. Needless to say I never got any money back from Allen and he basically doesn't care because he already got my money. He's a crook, don't trust him. Again, if you want your pond done correctly, call Ponds Inc of Illinois, they won't disappoint. read more

We were using someone to maintain a water feature in our backyard for several years--paying him to open and close up the feature during the warm weather and to clean the water and filter twice a month when it was open. Even with that, the filter was clogging often. It was becoming very costly and quite frustrating. When that person retired, I contacted Allen, and after looking at the water feature, he said that he could redesign it so it would become a pond-less water feature, which would make it virtually maintenance-free! Not only did he make it look beautiful, but it has been running smoothly with no issues for months, and we no longer have the hefty maintenance bills. I have had issues with my brick paver front patio for years - it was sinking, bricks kept falling off. This year I decided to get it taken care of. I contacted Allen from Midwest Pond Design through Yelp, he responded right away, came by the same day and gave me a very reasonable quote, and started the work right away. We recently moved into a new home with a pond. We had a different pond service come out for the spring cleaning and re-opening of the pond. Shortly after that service the pond pump was making a bad sound. We unplugged it and contacted that pond service. That pond service claimed that the issue was with the liner and charged for a service call instead of standing by their service at the spring cleaning. Shortly after that "service call" the pond pump made the same sound so we had to unplug it. Obviously we were not going to call the pond service who did the spring cleaning again, and after some internet searching connected with Allen at Midwest Pond Design. Allen shared that liners do not shift; they have a 25 year warranty. He offered to come out that same evening at no charge to assess the issue. Once here he immediately got to work on the pond pump. The issue? It was clogged. My so called "spring cleaning" was not really done. Allen made sure that he stayed to make sure that the pump was drawing sufficient water to run properly and then charged me for a simple service call. We much appreciated the service from Allen and his company!! They are now our go to guys! read more

The back of our yard flooded every year. The last 10 feet were always muddy. Our dogs were always getting muddy. Midwest pond came in and put in drain tiles and beautiful stone.They came when they said, were done when they said they would be, and were very reasonably priced. I can't recommend them enough. Sorry, Tried to copy and paste my review and didn't work. I am surprised at a few of these negative reviews. My experience was Allan was quite the opposite. Allen has done two jobs for me. Earlier in the summer he installed some beautiful flagstone stepping stones to lead to my patio island in my yard. While he was working he noticed how wet my lower yard was and commented that he could fix it with a drainage system. He just came back and did that - finished in two days, did a beautiful job and did not rip up my yard. He also noticed that my pond was running slower than it should be and found that there had been a broken pipe. Last year, I had another company come out to check my poodles waterfall because it was leaking and they told me I need to spend 4-5K to replace the liner. Allen moved a few rocks and fixed the broken pipe to the tune of 120.00 and the pond is working fine! Last night we had over 4 inches of rain and my backyard and side yard are dry - no standing water thanks to Allen's drainage project. I highly recommend him for any job with ponds, brickwork or drainage. He is busy and the rain in the early spring held him up, but highly ethical and worth the wait! read more
