There were only two small groups staying over the weekend. I am not sure how this place feels when it is at capacity, but wow.. the small number of people on site, as well as the serenity of this space tucked away conveniently only a mile off of Hwy 41, and a few minutes outside of Oakhurst.
This place is rustic, but it has electricity, running water, plumbing and air conditioning, so it isn't bad. And for someone who spends my days with more things to do than time to do it... this was a welcome and nice change of pace.
While rustic (no televisions or phones in rooms, sparse toiletries and very tiny toilets), the beds were comfortable, air conditioning worked, and the grounds were clearly well cared for. There was no ice machine, but you could get as much ice as you wanted from the dining room, which had hot water and an assortment of teas and other beverages, as well as apples or other whole fruits, available throughout the day and evenings.
I really enjoyed the food options, which included tri-tip and bbq chicken dinners and delicious lunches and breakfasts. No matter where you are on campus, you can hear the dinner bell which rings 10 minutes before the hour and again when the food is ready.
Right next to the dining hall and beautiful deck, is a duck pond filled mostly with canadian geese, a swan, and a few ducks. This pond served as the backdrop for all we did at the retreat and easiliy became my favorite place to sit and meditate for a while.
So there are lots of different leisurely activities, including hiking, horseshoes, other athletic opportunites, available...but I just chose to use the weekend to rest. I was so thankful for the opportunity to use these facilities, and hope I can return again some day!
