Woodlands Farm Trust
(2 reviews)
don't rely on the map for directions- look them up on the farms website…read more I have to state now, that i am a volunteer for the woodlands farm trust and have been for the last 5 years, so my apologies if this contravenes qypes t's and c's! the woodlands farm trust is a charity run by volunteers, and open to the public. they have quite a lot of animals, mainly sheep and cows. i find this farm extremely well run, and there is always something to do. if you fancy volunteering and getting a little dirty, then go down and give it a try. it's an ideal place for the family, as well as school visits. the woodlands farm trust also has open days, but check the website for further info. its free to get in, but the farm actually relies on donations, so please give genorously!

Besides it being a great cause and selling gems of clothing, I had to complain…read more The times I had gone there, it was bit full because of how small the local is and there was a bit of frustration from the service side. However, I don't know if I caught someone in a bad mood or 5 minutes before closing, but when I went to drop off clothing to the good cause, I was greeted with a scowl, a door slam and not even a thank you. Absolutely terrible, it also made me want to take back what I had given away and give it to another charity like the Cancer Research UK up the street. I should have if had I not been in shock from the rudest encounter I have ever experienced in the least likely place, a charity shop. It doesn't matter where you work, but customer service is customer service.
A recent tour of the Islington charity shop scene was quite revealing. While the smaller shops on…read moreEssex road and Caledonian road were interesting, the cloithing all seemed to lean to a more elderly customer. Even the Oxfam in Angel was not pleasing. Marie Curie, however, perhaps due to its size, has more than the average charity shop. The ornaments shelf, as someone else mentioned, is a treasure trove. Great place for cheap photo frames, and the books shelf is packed tight. I bought a very nice, young T shirt, perfect size, for £2. Now, you have to be happy with that don't you?!

They offer ante natal groups pro natal groups, toddler groups, assistance with breast feeding, drop in sessions, weigh in sessions, christmas / easter days off, lots of day sessions for children in the Summer involving lots of different activities. The staff also visit your homes for regular checks. I have had also had a speech therapist visit regularly who was also excellent. The effort the staff put into this centre is amazing.

Wow. Just wow. This is such a heartwarming initiative and I'm going to continue supporting it…read more I can't quite remember, how I stumbled upon their website, but as soon as I read about their work, I put a date in my calendar to check them out. Basically what it is: they rescue surplus food from businesses in the area and distribute it among the community for a super-discounted price: £4.50 for a shopping cart that was filled to the brim. Granted, you don't have much choice and some of the food isn't at its peak anymore, but I have a brain and I can sort out (or cut out) what's not so nice anymore. Integral to their operation are the volunteers who are your shopping companions: they go through the aisles with you and point out what you can take and how much. It sounds a bit prescriptive at first, but I understand that otherwise some folks would go bonkers and grab everything! Thank you for doing this!
This shop has some good finds. It 's not on the main charity shop strip ( West End Lane) but it's…read moreworth a mention. British Red Cross sells mostly clothes and not much else. There are not many shoes or bags here. The selection of clothes are pretty good and the prices are pretty low. You have a little cubicle with a curtain to try on clothes. It was here that I decided to go on a diet and I've lost a stone. Come for this reason. There are often designer bits here due to the areas proximity to Hampstead, Swiss Cottage, Saint John's Wood etc. The average skirt will run you about 10-12 pounds, a shirt 5-10 pounds. This shop also does a nice selection of coats. This shop doesn't have a charity shop vibe actually because it is nicely laid out and the people who shop here have taste. Check it out on your West End Lane Pilgrimage.

Everything is reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly, going above and beyond what you'd expect. I'd definitely recommend this place to students needing to furnish a flat, there are some good bargains to be found if you look around and the prices have some room to manoeuvre, especially if you're getting a few bits. They offer delivery on large items through their van drivers, and also do house clearances for people who are getting rid of furniture.

Both shops are well laid out. The clothes are high end prices and a bit too dear for me but the furniture shop is amazing and has so many bargains I can't list them all here but it's easy to pick up a tv for £20, a dishwasher for £50 and a bookcase for under a tenner. The upstairs is not accesible for wheelchair users or anyone who can't climb stairs. The shop can be accessed for the high street or the best bet is to park in Morrisons and walk down the stairs as the car park is behind the shop.
