I had a scheduled drop off. I arrived 20 minutes early. Walked in to no greeting by staff members. When I introduced myself and stated I was early and waiting for service wouldn't be an issue the one male employee walked away as I was speaking. After sitting at the counter the employee stated, " Get over here". Aggressive and unprofessional. Questions were asked about my service request. I would like to set the record straight about my local Midas Shop in East Brunswick, NJ. I have been a loyal client for over 20 yrs. I had just bought a used car and for the 1st 3 yrs of living here we were using Firestone at Brunswick Square Mall. My last visit with them All the employees were new and our regular mechanics had been transferred to improve other Firestones. Well after their repairs my engine blew after that visit (and of course my last)! We stopped by Midas one afternoon to interview them before entrusting our vehicles to them. The Owner Mr Paul Arora was very sincere and forth coming about what needed to be repaired. Mr Arora will go out of his way to make sure you are educated about everything that needs to be done before doing the work. We have also been buying our current vehicles from His lot (Maruti Auto Sales). TRUST, INTEGRITY, TRUTH very rare in this day and TIME. All work is discussed with customers in detail before work is ever done & if not satisfied - they will do what it takes to make you feel comfortable in their accessments! I have been bringing my car here for over a year. I think they give very cheap parts. Replaced windshield wipers.one of them came undone after a month and the metal was scraping agains my windshield. Replaced break light. Stopped working after two months. Brought it back twice for them to rectify and was sent away twice because they had no time for something that would taken five minutes. Luckily I'm not totally useless, went to autozone, bought the lightbulb, watched a YouTube video and replaced the break light myself. Took me 15 minutes. They could have done it in five. Poor experience: office staff made me feel as if I was intruding on the tv show they were engrossed in. I found one of my tires in the process of rotation crushed under the lift until I pointed this out to the Manager. He tried to sell me tires that were clearly ok. Pointing to "defects" that just weren't there as if I were blind and/or stupid. I don't understand how such a sloppy business can continue to exist. This Midas is SO BAD I never made it to the shop! I say skip this Midas and the one on Route 1 in N. Brunswick; they are owned by the same person and both shops have HORRIBLE customer service. I emailed ahead for an appointment through the Midas website and I never got a response from the shop. Then I called the Midas main customer service line and complained and did not hear back from the shop after hours. Then I called the shop to see if they could squeeze me in and the person who picked up the phone had such an attitude! At this point I was done. Luckily, I was planning a trip to see my parents in DELAWARE so I called a shop down there and it was like night and day. The guy was super nice, even agreed to take my NJ coupon, and wrote me in! I wanted the oil change before going on an extended trip but... I will travel for quality customer service! I came in today mainly to get a tail light fixed and figured I'd get an oil change, too. They tried to pull thee old "you need a new air filter" trick because I'm a woman, and I wasn't falling for it. He brought in my air filter and it wasn't even that dirty. So I went to pay and I asked which tail light was out. He goes, "tail light? We can check that. Give me two minutes." I said, "uhhh that's the reason I brought the car in." Complete idiots..... We went here because the wheel of our car started shaking when it went over 50 mph. We know FOR A FACT that it is because our tire needs to be replaced (the problem started occurring as soon as the flat was patched up). Went there for an oil change. Walked out with a $500 bill. They told me the back brakes needed to be changed and rotors. I said ok, change them. Them 15 min later the damaged the caliper on the brakes and tried to get me to pay for that. Now the car has been driven for not even 700 miles and the back brakes and rotor are all warm out. This place is horrible, I think they put the bad brakes back into the car and charged me for new ones. It was my first time walking in there and it will be my last time. 1 star because I have to choose a star, if not it would be -5 stars read more

I have gone to this location in the past for routine oil changes and every single time one or two more things "needed to be fixed." I stopped going for this reason. I recently went back for a serpentine belt replacement (desperate times call for desperate measures) and of course, the tensioner also needed to be changed. Raising the price to $300. As I'm leaving they tell me I also need to change my ac compressor which ranges from about $600-$1000+. Long behold they give me a quote of 1,200 over the phone. No thanks. I took my car to the used dealership I bought it from and there was nothing wrong with my ac compressor. The mechanic even told me they PUT THE WRONG BELT ON. Not only did I pay for the wrong part to be installed, they also almost stole $1,200. Nice try. Won't be going back ever again. read more

Surprise, surprise....My car recently started making a grinding noise and a trusted mechanic that fixed it stated it was my left front wheel bearing, and that my right front wheel bearing is giving out. The mechanic friend stated the wheel bearings looked like they were the stock wheel bearings and needed replacement simply because of wear and tear from normal use after several years---then I got home and checked my receipts and saw that I had my wheel bearings "replaced" by this Midas a few years ago...I find it highly questionable that new wheel bearings installed by Midas only lasted me 20-30k miles before giving out... Are these guys at Midas even fixing anything? Or are they just sitting around playing games on their phones and spraying WD-40 on the parts that are making bothersome squeaks and grinding noises that customers are bringing to their shop, and then giving it back to the customer only for them to need to return again and fix the same thing... read more

Incompetent or fraudulent. I brought in my 2003 Acura MDX because it had the check engine light for the 02 sensor come on after I replaced the battery. I thought it was a fuse, but couldn't find the specific fuse. I brought it to MIDAS in East Brunswick, because they're open a bit later than the other shops. I dealt with Omar, and he had me pay $112 to read the codes on the car. Even though most places won't charge for this, I accepted, because I wanted it fixed quickly. 15 minutes later they called and said it would be $1200 to replace all four 02 sensors. I told them I'd like to take it to another shop for a second opinion. I took it to Gibraltar in East Brunswick. I dropped it off that night that I picked the car up from MIDAS. Not only did they not charge me to check the car out, they found the fuse that I suspected was the problem, and replaced it. They charged me $50 for that, the car has been running great without a code for 2000 miles now. TLDR: Stay away from MIDAS, they're either incompetent or fraudulent. read more

I needed to a new battery for my 2014 Honda Crosstour. I got there around 4:30 and there were few cars in queue. They're remodeling the main waiting lobby so I sat in a rather comfortable chair in what they call their temporary lobby down the lot. My car was done in an hour and was rinsed off salt and grime. Not washed...but rinsed and the inside was wiped down and vacuumed as well. I wasn't expecting this and thought it was a nice courtesy (if reminded me of Jiffy Lube service). I went here to get a standard oil change on my day off around 1145 am. The guy at the desk says I need a new belt and the one I had was going to break any day. He assured me it would take only 20 minutes and For 90 bucks I said ok. Should of said ill take it down the street. Apparently they took off the old one not realizing they did not have anew one in stock. So they said the new one will be here in a minute. I waited 2 hours for this thing. These people are terrible. The EB Midas recommended $500-$1000 in work after brining in the car for an oil change. Part of what they recommended (spark plug change for approximately $130) was already done by them in the past 1 year on the same care. The manufacturer's owners guide suggests replacing the spark plugs at 120k miles; my car is about 60k miles under that recommendation. This visit to Midas was similar to the past 6 visits my family has experienced in the past 1-2 yrs; they recommend unnecessary maintenance. We leave the Midas was a bad feeling, and we've decided to no longer go there. Do your homework before you give them business. read more

I had a coupon for a free tire rotation with an oil change service. I asked Paul if they accepted it. He said yes. 1/2 hr later he comes to me and says he cannot get the nuts off my tires. They are fused with the bolts. I said did you do the oil change? because I wanted to bring it to another place. He said he had completed the oil change. I was a little pissed but what could I do? I paid the full price. I went to Punjab auto repair on route 9 for a tire rotation. I didnt say anything to them. They took the tires off, no problem whatsoever?? Crazy right? Took my car in for a brake service since they credited me for the brake pads from a previous brake job that was done there; saved me a BIG $30 on the bill. When I picked up the car and tested the brakes, I had to put the brake pedal down to less than an inch off the floor to stop the car. I went back and explained the situation since prior to the brake job, even with the old brake pads, the pedal stopped the car only half way down. On my second trip back to explain the problem, I had one of managers come out to the car and demonstrated what the issue was and he said that he have it checked. When it was returned the second time, it was only slightly better. Next time, I'll take the car to where I normally take my cars for service. read more

If you are a WOMAN avoid this Midas AT ALL COSTS! I went in there for an oil change and to have my brake pads replaced. After about 45 minutes they tell me that my rotors need to be completely replaced because they are rotted out and cracked, they quoted me a price just under $500. I told them that was too expensive and that I would take my car somewhere else, they then tried to scare me by telling me my car was a death trap and a hazard on the road and they strongly suggested I reconsider and let them replace my rotors. I again, told them no thank you. About 10 minutes later they approach me and tell me that they can actually just cut my rotors instead of replacing them for half of the price. So now i'm supposed to belive the rotors that they JUST TOLD ME were just rotted and hazardous, aren't that bad and can now be cut? They were obviously just trying to see what they could get me to pay for! So again, I told them no thank you and requested my vehicle to be taken off the lift. The salesman then proceeds to mutter "I don't have time for this bullshit" under his breath, and pass me off to another salesman. After complaining about being CURSED at, another worker (not the one who cursed at me) apologized and told me that the worker was talking about something else, and not me. So after scaring me about the safety of my car, haggeling with me, giving me two different stories about the conditions of my breaks and CURSING at me, I finally get my car off the lift and took it to SEARS where the mechanic told me all I needed was a break pad replacement in the front and the "gunk" cleaned out of my rear breaks for $160!!! I am just returning from this branch of Midas, to which I have been a loyal customer for over five years. I am livid and I will never go there again. 1) The guy comes back after the oil change and addresses my boyfriend who accompanied me, the loyal customer and registered owner of the car, and says that there are two problems. He leaves and returns again to tell me (he had to be redirected to me by my boyfriend) the problems are that the spring for the suspension is cracked in half, and my back brakes are bad. After dismissing me because of my sex, he decides it is appropriate to make me panic by saying "If God does not like you one day, it will be very bad" which would make anyone throw money at their problems, right? Then we try to figure out how we are going to pay "$6-700" by opening up a line of credit. After that didn't go through, he then tries to negotiate by saying that he is going to order the spring part for about $300 + $75 labor. At this point, I am getting upset, as my infant was with us and was getting very hungry and we needed to leave. He is still trying to sell me and offers to get the part and give us a ride home. I declined, paid for the oil change, waited way too long for the receipt, then waited for them to bring the car back down off the lift, and when they brought the car to the front, the little mechanic whipped my car from a good 20mph acceleration to stop! OBSCENE. After diagnosing that there is a serious problem with the suspension spring, the brake shoes needed replacing and the drums needed to be ground down, WHY is it necessary to pull my car up so aggressively?! Are you pissed that I took an extra half hour out of your work day, or that you weren't able to cheat me out of $700?? Needless to say I will be filing a formal grievance with the company and branch owner. And I will never put up with this place again. read more

Zero Stars!!!! I went to this Midas location because I had a coupon for an oil change. While I was waiting for my car, the mechanic brings me my air filter and tells me I need a new one. I am completely unfamiliar with stuff like this, and should have gone with my gut, but I said okay. After they were finished with my car, I noticed they recommended I get another oil change in 3000 miles. I may not be savvy enough to know when to say no to an air filter, but I definitely know that the suggested rate for an oil change is every 6 months or 5,000 miles. Clearly, they saw I was a sucker and tried to run with it. When I got home, I looked up articles for when to replace an air filter, and I'm certain I didn't need a new one. Also, when I was checking out, i saw the guy switch the cable from one card machine to another. Maybe I'm paranoid now, but I will definitely be watching my account.
