Let's just say this isn't the type of place to come if you feel like a coke and some pringles. However, if you want to go beyond the run of the mill , branch out in to the unknown, S Mart is the place to come. It's a collection of loosely grouped shops all under the banner S- Mart - so there is an alcohol store, a convenience store and a coffee shop all seperate. Within the convenience store is the food shop Madis, which I have also reviewed - it's well worth checking out as you can get custom made sushi for 5 - 7 dollars. They have benches outside where you can sit and explore the purchase you have made, deciding whether or not Mung Bean ice cream really is for you.

S Mart! I have such fond feelings for S Mart, as for a long time it was my local dairy. It's a…read moresmall Korean supermarket, and so it stocks mostly Korean and a smattering of Japanese foods, but if that's not your thing, it does have a small "Western" foods section and a Rivermill bread stand, which is not the greatest but good if you don't want to spend $6 a loaf at the Fix down the road. As I'm not Korean, I used to like to buy something that I didn't really know what it was, which was sometimes something I found yuksville, but sometimes resulted in delightful discoveries such as the Beef BBQ wheat chips (do not contain beef). My favourite things here are canned lemon and apple sodas here for the very reasonable price of $1.10 (used to be 80cents). They are pretty friendly here, and there's also a loyalty scheme you can sign up to and eventually get some credit on your purchases.

Damn your late night hours. Damn your disgusting semi warm pies that I could not stop eating. They actually have a really good range of stuff here, more than you would expect from a convenience store. Carton of fresh juice + Cookie Time = Energy for last minute exam revision. If you are ever confused about the bus stops located on the opposite side of Symonds Street, just pop in to Forte Convenience and they will point you to the right stop. Pro Tip: They are a lot more willing to drop their bus route knowledge if you buy something.

She was already visibly upset due to a major emergency with one of our friends and apologised to the (I presume owner) for breaking the bottle. He said "I'll clean it up but you have to pay for it. The bottle doesn't magically break itself", or words to that effect. I calmly pointed out that I had broken a bottle at Caltex once and they forgave it, but he doubled down. It's a fair enough rule, but he could have at least tried to be kind about it. I hope he enjoys the $2.50 because the rest of our convenience shopping will be done at one of the other stores nearby.

Located on Normanby Road (very near to Citta Design and BLOC), this store is one of a kind! I could literally spend hours walking through Sabato tasting every olive oil, balsamic, chorizo, cheese, chocolate and dipping sauce imaginable! While some of the products are sourced around New Zealand, you will mostly find products from Spain, Italy and of course, France (thank you France for the best chocolate in the world aka Valrhona!). As well as selling amazing food products, you can also buy cookbooks, kitchen supplies and they also hold cooking classes and cheese classes. I haven't been to one yet, but they always sell out! Highly recommend Sabato for all you foodies out there, it will seriously become your new favourite weekend activity (and you won't even need lunch!)
