worst movie theatre experience ever. manager saw that we were bringing in snacks for the movie, tells us we need to bring our snacks back out to our car. we proceed to leave the theatre to go to our car to return the snacks and the manager follows us out. we went to our seats and manager continues to follow us and proceeds to sit behind us for the first 30 mins of movie and watches us then leaves. manager throughout movie peaks his head around corner and watches us. The remodel on this place is great. Most of the theatres have power recline recliner's that are very comfortable and spacious. They now have the "VIP lounge" which shares food and beer and cocktails that you can take them to the theater with you as well. It's a really nice addition to the regular snack bar. Daily matinees. I hate paying similar prices at a theater like this compared to newer, cleaner and better equipped theaters. Unfortunately Eau Claire doesn't have anything nice and if you want to see a movie locally, you have 2 below average choices. Has really grossed out by the bathrooms. Decent movie theater with good prices. Did the 3D Avatar. Be careful when you buy tickets online. I purchased 2 tickets and after i put in my card info and name, it loaded to the next page and said the order did not go through. So I repurchased two different seats after (the original seats I chose were not available, i thought it was a glitch and that it was still reserved for my first order that didnt go thru, and I didnt mind the other seats). A few days after we went to the movies, I checked my bank account and they charged me twice. The first purchase I made, did go through! Not sure if this ever happened to anyone else? Fyi, they do have more food options for the VIP members. Once you go in and scan your tickets, walk all the way to the right to their 'VIP' food section. Wish I wouldve known before buying popcorn and drink at the front. Im from out of town so obviously I didnt know lol. Oh well. Next time, if I ever visit again. read more

We love Micon Cinemas, both in Eau Claire and Chippewa. They have the most comfortable seating and have done a great job remodeling the Eau Claire venue. They have the best popcorn in town! We always book our seats ahead of time and it is definitely worth the convenience fee. We are never disappointed in their food or staff. I must say, reading the reviews here, the Posters appear to be reviewing a different theater. Micon Cinemas (the name comes from MIke and CONnie, the owners) is a family firm. They own and operate 3 separate venues: Micon Downtown Budget Cinema (Downtown Eau Claire), Micon 7 Cinema (Mall Drive and Highway 93), and Micon 8 Chippewa Falls. The Downtown venue was opened after extensive remodeling of a very old, classic building at 315 S. Barstow Street. It is a lovely, retro-style facility. One enters the small, quaint lobby - to be greeted by behind-the-counter staff. Showing 2nd run movies (very current), ticket costs are: Adults - $4; Children (ages 3-11) are $3; Children under 3 are free. EXCEPTION: Tuesday Night is Bargain Night, when ALL tickets are $3. Concessions are abundant, with a generous menu of entrees & snacks: https://www.miconcinemas.com/theatres/DowntownBudget/ NOTE: the theater staff delivers your food orders to your seat. At each row of seats is a section-long counter on which to rest your food, beverage, et al. Staff are very diligent in tidying up between showings. Sadly, patrons often fail to do THEIR part in keeping the venue clean. It takes little to no effort to pick up your trash and carry it to readily-available waste containers. There is an accessible restroom just off the lobby floor, and restrooms are also available in the downstairs lounge. It's a great place to see a movie, with excellent audio. This is a fantastic movie theater! Very comfortable recliners, the most up to date movies, and great food. I always pay a little bit more to purchase our tickets online so we can choose the best seats. The owners have put a lot of thought into remodeling this theater thinking of their patrons comfort. If you have your heart set on seeing a movie do not go to this theater. Three times we have been given tickets to the wrong movie time when being very specific to the employee on which time we would like. Even worse is that on one occasion it was the manager who screwed up and did nothing to try and right the situation. On another occasion the lack of organization caused my children and I to miss a movie due to the tickets being sold in a different line then where we were directed to go by staff. This too was due to the managers poor organization, but when I said something to her she just shrugged her shoulders and left my children disappointed. read more

Paid the typical $8.50/adult ticket on a Sunday evening. Me and my movie companions walked into an empty screening room. Nice. It was pretty dirty in there - obvious there had been no clean up (or very sloppy clean up) after the previous screening. Drawback - hearing the booming sounds of neighboring films coming through the walls and interfering with the more quiet film we were viewing. read more

I am writing to express my disappointment with the failure of the theater's online reservation system. On Thursday night, I bought two tickets and reserved seats for a 1:10 p.m. Friday showing of "The Post." Imagine our surprise when we arrived at the theater and were told that the system had failed and our reservation would not be honored. Management did little to remedy the situation other than to refund the $3 we had paid for the convenience fee. Micon management needs to restore our trust in the system by assuring us that making advanced reservations is worth the time and the convenience fee and by having a more appropriate system in place for dealing with future situations . read more

I'm a huge movie fan. That being said icringe when movies i want to see are at micon eau claire. If you don't like 3d movies don't bother with this theatre or go to chippewa. The screen sizes for most of the movies i have seen in 2d are a joke at this theatre. At $8.50 a ticket seeing a movie on "half a screen" should be half the price. Bottom line call the theatre and ask what screen your movie is playing on. If they say screen 2, don't bother and either see it elsewhere or wait for it to come out as a rental. These days most tvs are as impressive as that screens size. If you are into the gimmick of 3d then you will enjoy an impressive screen. If you are like me and not into 3d or are more comfortable seeing movies wearing glasses then this screen is not available to you. They had redone the lobby in lieu of fixing the small screen sizes. Unfortunately spending time in a lobby is not what i go to the movies for, so this means little. Bottom line, when a movie is out that i have been super excited to see and i discover it comes to micon, i am really frustrated. read more

I mean it's a theater, that play movies. Nothing special about it. Probably could be cleaned more. If you're looking here I'd check out the budget theater in downtown Eau Claire first. Save some money and be around some decent restaurants away from the mall craze. read more

I tried to purchase tickets in advance for a big showing for my family of 5. there were five seats available in an aisle of only 8 seats. When I tried to purchase the seats in the middle of the row for my family, it wouldn't let me. It stated I couldn't leave a single vacant seat. This policy wasn't explained and there were no instructions. Evidently, Micon doesn't believe single people go to the movies because you can only buy tickets if it leaves seats together. So if you have a large family, you MUST sit on the aisle--too bad if that's not your preference! I went to the box office to purchase the tickets in person as soon as the office opened. However, the tickets were already gone. Because of how it forced other people to buy tickets there were no tickets left with room for 5 people. I spoke with the manager on duty and they just smirked and said that's how the system works. They can override in person even though they don't like doing it that way, but there is no online override regardless of the rationale. They lost my business for sure. Poor customer service and a dysfunctional ticketing system is no way to keep my family of five coming to your theater. read more

I love going to this movie theater with my daughters. The seats are comfortable, the prices are much better than the other theater, the popcorn is fabulous, the people are friendly, AND they almost always have the movies we want to see. There are previews, but not 45 minutes of them like they have at the other place. We love Micon!!! Also their summer kid movie series is fantastic! read more

Msy husband and I are Sr Citizens and love to attend Friday movies. $4 per ticket and $1 each popcorn and soda. We can have a movie with treats for $6 each. Also, they have $1 hot dogs and between 4 & 6 pm 1/2 price on the lounge menu. The recliners are very comfy AND you can take you food and drink into the theaters. I believe that other ticket prices are less than the other theater too. read more

My family goes to the movies almost weekly and Micon Cinemas is our favorite place to go! (If we can't see it in Eau Claire, we go to Chippewa!) With the power recliners, we have become very spoiled and comfortable in our movie experience. The VIP Lounge has fun snack food and adult beverages that you can drink in the theater. Even though the movie ticket prices did increase a little, the matinee's are still a great outing for the whole family. I also appreciate that you can get treats at the snack bar without feeling like you have spent your whole paycheck (not like some other theaters that charge over $7 for a soda!). They offer a unique and thrilling selection of food and drink. They are actually readable priced in concessions vs the usual movie place. Comfortable seating too! read more

I absolutely LOVE the new seating. If you love having your space, you must find out which movies are playing with the new recliners. Plenty of arm space. Plenty of room to put your drink without worrying about bumping it. Plenty of leg room. Plenty of ass room. Easy to clean seats because they are NOT cloth. The only warning I could give is that you might be so comfortable that you fall asleep. You might want to be well rested before your favorite movie. If you are not really caring if the movie is good but just wanted some good popcorn and some air conditioning or to make someone else happy by agreeing to go to the movie with them, then hell, enjoy the nap. Hopefully you don't snore too loud. I have been to two movies in the recliners at the time of this writing. I am not even sure I can go see a movie anywhere else after my experience. I have been watching movies at this location since the early 80s and I really do appreciate the improvements. Nice lobby area, nice bathrooms, and I haven't been to the bar yet after a movie but maybe next time. Even the parking lot is getting all redone. Great job Micon!! read more

The recliners are comfortable but I was singularly rebuffed by the lobby's appearance. Popcorn studded carpeting and greasy dirty surfaces in food vending area convinced me that I could forego that treat. We were there for a matinee prior to the holiday break and this was the condition! Selecting seats takes more time now at the purchase window and the touch screen is disgusting. Nothing that a good consistent clean can't resolve. read more

They sell advance ticket sales and the clerk does not tell you they are going to open the doors 1 hour before the movie starts. Results when you arrive 30 minutes before the start of the movie the only seats left are in the first row. There is a reason why, they are the worst seats in the house, walk-out!
