Older theater, modestly updated. Go to the Chippewa Falls version of Micon, which is new and has Mich better seating

Love this theater. Not too big and local. I am excited when the movie I want to see is at Micon.

(If we can't see it in Eau Claire, we go to Chippewa!) With the power recliners, we have become very spoiled and comfortable in our movie experience.

Stardust Drive-In Movie Theater - THE SNACK BAR

    Stardust Drive-In Movie Theater

    (10 reviews)

As noted in other reviews the concession menu that you are given upon arrival does not necessarily…read morematch the menu that may be available at the window so then you have to make quick choices and then the menu available at the window may have several items that they are currently out of altogether but you don't know that until you get to the window and actually place your order...so then you have to make more last minute choices. I would suggest having alternative choices in mind as there is no signage indicating what the Stardust Drive In Theater may be out of at any given time. Food: I originally ordered a Corn dog (not available) so I settled on a cheese burger along with an order of nachos with/cheese & side of jalapeños for and my husband ordered the "Date Night Special" which includes a large popcorn, box or bag of candy and two medium fountain sodas, one of which I had. We also ordered ice cream at intermission and one ice cream flavor we wanted they were out of so we tried to order an ice cream bar as a substitute and they were out of that as well. Back to the first concession round - The nacho cheese? Nope, never again, no thank you. Some folks may like it but I thought it was terrible and therefore after one bite of the nachos and then the burger, I threw both directly in the garbage. The cheese burger has a thick coat of the same yucky nacho cheese and the burger itself had zero flavor. The popcorn was buttery and hot so that was enjoyable but my husband wasn't too happy that he had to share his popcorn after my dinner went into the garbage. I returned to the concession stand a bit later and I tried to order chicken tenders but they were out of those as well so then I ordered the cheese curds which thankfully did not disappoint. Not sure which items our three teens ordered as they were seated on the lounge chairs several rows away from us but I do know they spent the $50 we gave them and then came back at intermission for another $20 for ice cream. The pricing on most items is fairly reasonable but mamy items definitely appear to be overpriced, even for a concession stand, imo. Cans of beer & wine are also available for purchase at a separate window. Service: Every team member was super friendly but the one gentleman walking around patrolling the grounds sounded loud and rude when speaking to guests a couple of cars over. From what we saw and overhead (the employee flailing his arms and pointing at the guest) we felt the employee made a huge scene because a guest had brought in a personal can of soda. We could not hear the other guest speaking at all but the employee we could hear clearly, again, we were two cars over. Location & Grounds: A long drive from anywhere if you don't live in the area (about an hour away for us) but for an occasional family outing or date night I would say it's probably worth the trip. There are several picnic tables located at ground level and although we did not go up, there was also an elevated level with additional seating that is accessible only by a long flight of stairs. The grounds are very well lit so which is normally welcomed if stumbling around the northwoods, but because it was so well lit I feel that did interfere with the picture quality and vibrancy. Your littles will enjoy all of the playground equipment and fun things to do while there - many different themed stations scattered throughout the grounds and the Stardust Drive In also offers several family friendly themed events throughout the season so check their website or Facebook pages in advance if you decide to take the drive. Parking was difficult for us as we have an F250 Super Duty and they have limited spots for oversized vehicles, but as with the drive in when we arrived, the drive out after the show was efficient and all other drivers were courteous while merging for departure. This is a long winded review because we wanted to LOVE the Stardust Drive In Theater on our very first visit but I have to be honest, I was disappointed. Because of the many menu challenges, and most importantly because of the employee hollering at a guest in such a disrespectful manner that other guests not involved were torn from their movie going experience, and that the guest who brought in the soda did not seem to be pushing back in the least, I can only give two stars at this time. My husband and I will go back up there this summer and give it one more try, but we've decided that when we do we will take that $125 we spent on concessions and have a nice dinner and cocktails at a local Chetek restaurant beforehand, park in a less well lit area, order the popcorn and sodas to munch on during the first movie, and then hope to maybe try and order a sweet treat at intermission. *This review is from a visit in October, 2022; Minions: The Rise of Gru and Top Gun: Maverick*
