It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. And their portion of goujons was massive. Eight in all I think. Everyone else enjoyed their food too. But the service let the Duiske Inn down a lot. They appeared to be understaffed and it was a very busy Sunday. There was initially two floor staff, a barman and a waitress. A second barman appeared later just as we finished eating. That said the first barman played a blinder and was really doing his best to serve drinks, take food orders and get new patrons seated. If it wasn't for him I reckon we would have walked out without eating. The waitress came and went less frequently. She chatted to patrons she knew. A-ok, more so if you've more than one dedicated staff member on the floor.
