Beautifully renovated. Just an absolutely stunning building! I enjoyed the Friday live music session. They also serve drinks; they accept card only, cash for tips. I wish I could afford to rent this place out. They have smaller rooms & other spaces that can be used for an event. I'm so glad they restored this historic gem! I would definitely return. read more

Last Friday, I braved the cold and attended the inaugural Fridays at the Station event. It was absolutely phenomenal! Being the first of the series, I went in tempered expectations. It was staffed well, and they were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. I was happy to see plenty of seating available. They even brought out more throughout the evening as the crowd grew. There were 2 food vendors and a bar available. But the music was in the driver's seat. Detroit House Collective and Sean Blackman were the perfect compliments to each other. I had planned to only stay for half of the time. But I found myself having such a great time that I decided to stay and dance the night away. Can't wait to enjoy the upcoming dates. read more

If you're new to town, from out of town, or live in town, this gem is a must see. I recently went here for an Underground Railroad tour. The tour is pretty much a walk around the 1st floor of the building which is amazing to see. I learned a lot of new, cool facts about Detroit regarding its history before the auto industry & Motown. I'm so amazing by this build and all that it has come to be and I can't wait for all of the future plans to become reality. Detroit is an exciting place to be! Get here soon, you'll love it. "Michigan Central" was to be destroyed. It use to be the train station for Detroit. In time it closed down. Vandalism took hold a crippled the building. So, like I said before, demolition was on the table. But the city would not have it. Inside they built a community center, made for the community. They had shops inside and a great main hall, for kids to watch movies. They also do weddings now, believe it or not. I was there while a wedding was underway. This place is great for family. I would recommend anyone come visit. read more

The transformation of this Michigan Central train station from the condition It was in to what it looks like now is nothing short of spectacular. We came here during the holiday shopping season and they had Christmas decorations up and several shops available for purchasing unique items while we were there, but I must say I thought there might be more stores but maybe as it gets closer to Christmas there will be more. We parked at a parking structure across the street and it was a quick walk into the building and I believe the parking cost five dollars for unlimited time so it was pretty easy and reasonably priced. read more

Wow wow wow Michigan Central Station! I've heard all the hubbub and saw it under construction but you just have to go. It's remarkably restored and I love that they even left a graffiti wall as an homage to what it was. While I was there, they were also setting up in the Grand Hall for a HUGE wedding so clearly you can rent this space as a venue! I can't wait for restaurants to open up in here but I did enjoy Yellow Light Donuts. I'll definitely be bringing my family and friends from out of town here as a sight/site to see! read more

Kudos to Ford Motor Company for the amazing job. They did rehabilitating the Michigan Central station. Although it is no longer an active train station, it is a gorgeous building worth a visit, whether it's the holiday time or otherwise. The attention to detail in restoring it was outstanding. There's also a number of different places where you can sit and have coffee or beverages and just meet up with friends. It truly is a wonder. read more

I'd been looking forward to checking out the newly refurbished Michigan Central Station since it opened, so Nate and I headed there while visiting Detroit for our annual Christmas vacation. I wasn't able to reserve a tour, but the station is open to the public and free to enter. The space is grand, and they've added some interesting interactive art elements that I didn't really get. It also looks like they do pop up events and other activations. The best part was seeing all the photos of the station prior to the restoration, as well as many artifacts that were found during the process. It really blew my mind the amount of time and money that went into restoring this gem and I'm excited to see what they will do with it in the future - seems like it will house office space, restaurants and retail, etc. There are already some of these things in place, like a small market with housewares and snacks, etc., a coffee shop, a gift shop, and a curated artisan's market. It was super crowded when we went, but it was totally worth a visit. I'd love to come back and see how it continues to evolve. So glad this historic gem was saved from disrepair. read more

I had an amazing experience here. I went with my parents on a Thursday morning. We were lucky to get tickets because it seems like they're always sold out. The tour was about an hour and 45 minutes and in my opinion it was about 15 minutes too long but truly that might have been the fact that it was early and I hadn't had caffeine yet. Our tour guide was engaging but not overly peppy. She had the answer to every question and even played a bit of trivia with our group. The renovations that have been made to Michigan Central are insane and so impressive. They honor the history while updating some areas to look more modern. It made me kind of emotional to hear about the work and love that was put into the renovations. If you're interested, look up the story of the clock. It's so interesting and heartwarming, something right out of a movie. read more

Detroit History Tours does this guided one and a half hour walking tour through the main floor of Michigan Central Station. It's AMAZING to see the architectural details and the craftsmanship mixing old with the new. Our tour guide was a preservationist and gave us a lot of details on the buildings history. Hard to believe it sat abandoned for 30 years. There's a coffee shop, gift shop with Michigan Central items and another store with unique gift's. Highly recommend this tour! read more

Being able to experience this historic building post a historic renovation is amazing. They did a phenomenal job capturing some details and maintaining the aesthetic of the building. There is a cool exhibit with old relics they found during the restoration and it's awesome to step into the history. As a native Michigander, I've been waiting for the Michigan Central Station to open. It fell into disrepair for so many years, and finally got the facelift it needed for so many years. To see this place alive again really makes me happy. Since the tours are during this summer only, I wanted to take advantage and go check it out while I could. They really did a fantastic job remodeling, thank you to the Ford family for doing this. Pulling up, it really looks like a million bucks. Roosevelt Park is alive with beautiful landscaping, benches and places to take so many wonderful photos. So much curb appeal! I was easily able to park, but I was also there early, so that helped. When you walk in, you can see all the wonderful work they've done to revitalize this historical landmark. Brand new windows, flooring, lighting fixtures and so much more! They have several different rooms for you to walk through and not only see the updates, but the history of it all over the past 100+ years. How the train station started, when it stopped being a train station and closed (January 5th, 1988), even when it went through it's ugly phase of being neglected and fell into horrible disrepair. Not that I personally remember all of it, but the fact that it could've easily been demolished and left as a green space is truly something I'm sure they contemplated. Seeing all the beauty of 100 years come back to life again warms my heart. Hopefully they continue on with keeping this place up over the next chapter of the train stations life. They have displays and historical points of interest and other items over the years from the stations previous life. They refurbished the original clock from the VIP section when the station opened. They have an entire room full of posters from 100 years ago up until it's official reopening of June 6th, 2024. They even have a room of all the people who helped to revitalize the place from its humble beginnings. Thank you to the Ford family and everyone else who contributed to bringing this place back to life. It goes to show that we're still here, and coming back one step at a time! read more

It's absolutely stunning. A great place to take family photos, write and mail a letter to Santa, have a craft cocktail and play a game of giant chess, listen to jazz, and just merely observe the wonderful architecture and beautiful decor. Oh, and shop local in one of the many pop up stores. Not charging for parking and entry made me want to spend some time and money on supporting local businesses. So well done. This is my second time coming up from Florida and my second time ATTEMPTING to visit Michigan Central. Guess what? It's been closed BOTH times for a private event. At this point, this building doesn't seem to provide access to the public. I'm disappointed and the venue should just brand itself a private event space! Let's call it what it really is!!!!! I even emailed one month before and ask if the space would be closed on this specific date and they said they couldn't say for certain but it looks like they would be open. I'm so disappointed! Amazing!! Growing up in the area, central station was always kind of an eye sore but what an amazing thing Ford Motor Co. has done by buying the building and restoring it. We were lucky enough to get tickets to one of the free tours in their first 2 weeks after the grand opening. Beautiful architecture and overall just such an incredible restoration project. Things like this really make you feel the love of the community coming together to appreciate landmarks in Detroit. I hope to explore more of the building in the future like the offices and tech labs upstairs. I loved looking at the photos placed amongst the grand hall of what the area looked like before restoration compared to now. Kudos to the workers on the job they did. One fun fact I love about the place is the electric vehicle charging road right out front. It's the first road in America with this type of capability! read more

Did I expect to be fangirling so hard over a building this week/weekend? No, no I did not. However, after participating in the celebrations this week for the grand reopening of The Station, I'm kind of obsessed! It's so much more than "just a building". There is so much history and heart and community and story embedded in it, and it's a huge moment for the city of Detroit to see it reopening again. It's revitalization! It's innovation! It's inclusive and connective and inspiring and so meaningful to so many people and so many ways. I absolutely LOVED having the opportunity to attend the opening night concert, which featured so many local LEGENDS and amazing surprises (I'm excited to catch the NBC special cut of the show again tonight!). The programming, entertainment, and effects were amazing. The fireworks?? The fireballs?? All the building lights?? Goosebumps. Diana Ross, Jack White, Eminem and the DSO all sharing a stage? What a moment. My friends and I then went back again two days later for an Open House tour and they've done a phenomenal job setting up the space and exhibits. From an emotional introduction video to The Station's history in a beautiful hall, to meaningfully featuring the faces and stories of a diverse group of people woven into the history and renovation, to a cool poster room, and unique interactive AI installation, I loved it all! I'm excited to come back again and again to events, food and retail, arts and culture all at Michigan Central. Also excited to follow along to see the stories of innovation and opportunity that comes out it as well. Ford and Michigan Central seem really committed to uplifting the entire community. I love how they preserved its history by restoring the architectural design while keeping original elements, like the pillars and graffiti, intact. I came here over the summer on one of the free days. It was packed, but it was amazing to see how they rehabilitated the building and wrote stories about the people and the history of the building. It was also interesting to see how they kept some graffiti as it did have a historic significance in how the building had gone into disrepair. I do find it ironic that Michigan Central closed on January 6, 1988 as travel patterns changed AKA cars took over at the primary mode of transportation, and now Ford was the entity who revitalized the building. Time will tell how the Station will be used in Detroit's future. I like the park surrounding the building-lots of beautiful landscaping. There's an area with food trucks, and some restaurants a stone's throw away. read more

Waited in the 3 hour line for the Ford open house on Saturday to see the inside of this historical site. It's a bit rough and neglected inside but I can't wait to see what amazing things Ford does with it over the next 5 years or so. The interior looked quite rough, but there are still hints of it's beautiful and historically gilded past life. It was once a refined and architecturally sound building inside and still is for the most part outside. I can't wait to go back when it's reopened as a functional office and building. What a beautiful old building...even under construction. You can still stand an enjoy the façade. So much wonderful detail. The public park in front of the station is also beautiful with lush lovely grass and beautiful flower beds. A great place to relax, eat a lunch or just stroll. read more

The Michigan Central Station is a historic landmark.  It was in continuous use for many decades until Detroit went through what could be called a dispersion period when the central city changed.  Manufacturing and residents departed for several different reasons.  Rail travel also declined.  The station was not needed as much of the freight transfer work could be done without needing such a large structure.  At the same time manufacturing began departing the United States and notably from Michigan.  The surge of building and expansion that had been expected in Detroit never occurred. The building was left vacant for some time and recently was purchased by the Ford Motor Company.  The Ford Motor Company is repairing and remodeling the structure.  There doesn't seem to be any plans for resuming any sort of rail service at this location but we can hope, can't we? The building already has new windows in it and is looking more like the powerful center point of commerce that it should be rather than the derelict building it was tending to. read more

On the short drive into the city from the suburbs with my husband, I was experiencing two feelings: 1. Absolute grumpiness because it was raining, which would have dampened (ha ha) my hopes for the day while also ruining my hair. Because really why do it when it rains? Such a waste. 2. Euphoric highs at having a travel checklist, new places to see and a willing partner to see them with. While in my swirl of rain-hate and travel happiness, my husband pointed out the train station on the right. We turned down randomly chosen streets that seemed to be taking us towards closer until we pulled directly up to the building. Once the tallest railway station in the world, it was used for about 75 years until 1988 when Amtrak stopped its service. This morning, there were three cars matching our slow mph, a large fence and a lot of debris. It is hard to describe the emptiness of buildings like this one and there are many in Detroit. You see a reflection of the past in them. It makes me hope there is a parallel universe to this one where people are bustling about and actively using these buildings. Unfortunately, the city is struggling to hold onto its current population of 700,000, which has left at least 191,000 lots, homes and commercial real estate empty. I have a deep desire to run to Target, grab some cleaning supplies and get to work; anything, however small, to help the abandoned buildings breathe again. This is worth a stop because it is such a beautiful building and, because you can't go inside, you won't be there long. read more

It's sad that this is what is left of one of Detroit's finest well known landmark. My mom would tell me stories on how in the 70's this was the "Grand Central of Detroit" the gateway to Detroit. The architect in here was so detailed and ahead of its time and beautiful, just like in Europe. But now it's stands all alone, graffiti by idiots who don't respect other people's property and the history that this place once was. It's a shame to see it all alone, no one caring for it and any desire in restoring it to either living lofts and/or offices. I wish I could get a group of investors and make this place come back to life to what it once was. Detroit destroyed the old Hudson's building, lets not allow them to destroy this one. read more

What a shame the way Matty Moroun has maintained this once beautiful train station. Is there anything to salvage there? This landmark has been included in almost every documentary about the decaying Detroit. Part of the Moroun Empire. OK, a little bit of personal history ... I have taken the train from Michigan Central to Chicago, although it wasn't in the recent decades. Amtrak used to run daily into Michigan Central. Sadly, it will never do so again. Wow, such an incredible building...it's sad to imagine such an amazing piece of architecture is just sitting there rotting away. I hope a developer or anyone can go in here and redevelop this as a great commercial space or even a residential building. Detroit's favorite ghost? Maybe. Detroit's most fetishized and photographed specimen of ruin porn? Most definitely. Think what you may, but its still a pretty cool building. I love this building because its beautiful, all in its glorious ruin. I also love it because all of the amazing things that happen in its shadow...festivals, live music, and, my favorite, Tour deTroit. Actually, Roosevelt Park, which sits in front of the station is undergoing some amazing revival efforts, including tree-plantings, and fundraisers, and rollerskating (yes, rollerskating! so sad I haven't been able to go yet.) So yea....if you're doing a ruin porn tour of the D, this is stop number one. But don't just drive by shaking your head. Don't you worry; this station is still seeing its fair share of the action even though its just the backdrop. read more
