There are a number of good places to take your dog for a pamper in and around Liverpool. Four Paws…read moreon the Queens road is handy for me as I pass it on the way into town as just as I come off the motorway. Whilst I am happy brushing and bathing our dog, which can be disgusting if he has found something smelly to roll in, our dog has big droopy ears that get waxy. I don't feel confident clipping dogs nails either so I prefer to get him professionally groomed. Four paws is owned by Canine beautician Julie who qualified at the London Academy of Grooming. They have specialist staff that can groom all breeds to competition standards. The salon is a good size and is nearly always busy with yapping fluffy white lap dogs. You can always visit the beauticians next door whilst you wait.

We took our 2 dogs here 2 weeks ago- our Pomeranian picked up a bad skin infection whilst there…read morewhich required a vet visit and a course of antibiotics and steroids, and is still wearing an Elizabethan cone as his skin heals. Our second dog, a Bichon Frise, was shaved right down to the skin- 'because he was tatty'- even down to his tail which looked completely ridiculous. He hasn't been the same since and has been traumatized since we got him home. He does not want to play, go for walks or even eat/drink properly- his character has completely changed overnight and is now obsessively licking and biting his paws- so much so that he is now wearing an Elizabethan collar and I am considering taking him to a vet to see if he needs medication as he is a completely different dog since going to this place. There was absolutely no need to shave this type of dog this close to the skin- no consultation was offered over this, as we would have told them absolutely not to do this as he has never been cut that short- and now we are paying the price and trying to rehabilitate him back to his old self. Really, really unhappy.

The shop is always busy with at least one dog on the grooming tables looking either slightly nervous or loving the pampering and undivided attention of the lady who is grooming them. The staff are friendly and will greet you cheerfully when you walk in. The prices are excellent here compared to other grooming places and the quality of work and attention to detail is second to none. The business is also expanding as they are looking for apprentices to train in animal grooming, which is excellent to see in a small town like Maghull.
