I've seen my fair share of counsellors in the city over the past couple of decades, and my best…read moreexperiences so by far have been with Rory. The services are reasonably priced (and can be covered by benefits) and the sessions take place in a welcoming and safe environment. At no point in time have I ever felt judged or pushed beyond my comfort, but have always felt supported to talk through and dig deep into the topics/issues at hand. I always feel safe to express myself freely, and find that I leave with a more positive outlook, feeling "lighter" than when I arrived. I really appreciate that I am often referred to additional readings or other supplemental resources to help "continue the work" on my own time and between sessions. I would definitely recommend.

Carleton's Health and Counselling Services are located on the other end of campus, past the…read moreO-Train, near the Raven's Nest and athletic facilities. It's also accessible through the tunnels, but it's much quicker to just walk across campus. I used the health services while I was living in residence in my first year at Carleton, and all throughout my unversity career. It's open to students, faculty, and staff, which means it's usually pretty packed. If you weren't sick before, you have a much higher chance of getting sick while in the waiting room. They do have sanitizers and tissues everywhere, though, so use them when you can. Even if you have an appointment, you're guaranteed to still have some waiting time, so bring some music and earphones (but not too loud so you can still hear your name being called), a book, homework/school work, or you can check out some of the reading material they have there. They have magazines at the tables near the chairs, but they also have a small room to the right with pamphlets, books, and other information on health issues, particularly sexual health. They also have free condoms here. When checking in, if it's your first time, they'll take all of your health, contact, and emergency contact information. If you're a female, they'll also ask you if you prefer a female doctor. I've seen a bunch of different doctors here for numerous reasons, for both walk-in and by appointment, and they're all completely competent, though some seem to care much more than others. It might be hard to get the same doctor, though, unless you're willing to wait until they can fit you in their schedule. For those that are covered under their parents' health insurance, you can opt-out of the Carleton health insurance at the beginning of the school year and get some of that money back for fees included with your tuition.

I was given a Celiac test(which cost me 50$) because one of the counsellors said I could have that(not the doctors). The test came back negative. And the doctors said they didn't know what was wrong with me. I asked them to be referred to a specialist in digestion/food intolerances, and they refused telling me I was crazy and to take antidepressants/bezos/antipsychotics and to check with a psychiatrist. 3 years later of suffering, I put myself on a strict paleo diet, where I discovered I had a really bad food intolerance, and just needed to be on a high protein diet, and now I'm fine, no thanks to them. When I asked to be referred to a specialist, they are not allowed to deny that and tell me I am crazy. Unfortunately, under the Limitations Act, I am outside my 2 year limit to sue them for malpractice. You're better off lugging yourself down to an Appletree Medical Centre if you need a clinic. Because as horrifyingly bad as those clinics are, they are palaces of the gods compared to Carleton University's Heath and Counselling Centre.
