From the moment I walked in, I was super excited, they have RC planes, boats, helicopters, cars and trucks. They have plastic models. But for me? they had Balsa. Old timey free flight balsa. Glider Kits (yes, I bought one), rubber planes, static display. They also stock sticks and sheets for short kits, repairs, etc. What a great shop, run by a friendly crew. I highly recommend them - and if you LIVE in the area? go buy stuff form em, keep em in business. I ordered it and it got send across the country to my home in a reasonable amount of time...and before xmas despite the Canada Post strike. It arrived brand new, factory sealed and decently protected in an outer box. Great to do internet business with establishment even though they don't have a location in Vancouver.

Hobby shops like this simply do not exist anymore in New York which used to have a slew of them when building plastic models was popular. There are still a couple of mom & pop places scattered around but not on the scale of the Hobby Centre. Kids these days only interact in the virtual world and hobbies like this will eventually fade away. But in the meantime, I'm going to hoard as many plastic model kits that will fit in my house. My favorite theme for building and painting plastic models are World War II planes, so I was on the hunt for a 1/72 B-17G Flying Fortress or maybe a B-29 Superfortress. Airfix (from the UK) is one of my favorite brands and they stock a lot of their line here, but neither bomber were in stock on this trip. The hunt goes on. They did have a new release of the Avro Lancaster, which I have been searching high and low. I also picked up an Italeri JAS-39 Gripen and a vintage Airfix BAC Lightning. Prices are pretty good, especially on the older vintage kits along the back wall. With the favorable US$ exchange rate, I got some good deals. If I had spent more time here, I definitely would have blown through all the cash in my wallet, never mind my spending limit on my credit card. I just might have to make a return trip to Canada with a large trailer!

I have a friend who swears by this store and is always coming here to get supplies for her knitting. Wool N' Things carries great patterns and I always envy the sweaters that I see in the pictures! I am not a knitter myself, but do come from a family that knits and can appreciate the work that would go into some of these patterns. One thing that I might consider at Wool N' Things is one of their courses! They can teach you how to knit or crochet accessories and clothes in one of their onsite classrooms. You have to buy materials at the store, but they help you select the right wool and teach you how to read the pattern as well. They also have a group the "Knit Cafe" that meets a couple of times a week to work together. A friendly place with service offered in both English and French.
