Disappointing Pizzas - small, soggy, and looked like they had been slapped together in a hurry. Hope their Fish & Chips are better.

Right next to promenade plaza, and a short walk from where we were staying at the Bateman's bay lodge First impressions Sooo busy! We drove by twice in the afternoon and there were huge lines both times. Its popularity attests to it's food quality! We returned at 7, where it was comparably a lot less busy. Still a small line, but worth it! Clean and bustling interiors, a few spots to sit on the grass outside (and 2 benches) Service Had to wait about 20 minutes for a large family pack, but it was definitely worth it. You could tell everything was freshly fried - it was piping hot. Service staff happily gave us 4 extra cups, and opened 3 of our beer bottles when we asked. Ambience Serene and picturesque if you're sitting inside. Rather more rowdier and busy indoors. Classic fish n' chip shop vibes. Food Delicious!!! Everything was great. Chicken salt fries were so delicious and crispy. If anything, there was a tad too much salt on the food in general (sorry! I had to find something to fault). The potato scallops were so good. And the calamari was nice and crispy too. The smaller fish was nicer than the big one - juicier. It wasn't by any means cheap, but it was worth it for a good meal.

It's fish and chips in a small town, so you usually know what you're going to get and if you're in…read morefor a straight up battered fish, chips and a potato cake/scallop (depending on where you're from!) then I don't think you'll be too disappointed. Deviating from the standard fare on the other hand, I wouldn't recommend. I ordered grilled fish and was alarmed to be asked whether I wanted it with onion and tomato. Um...what!? I declined, opting for lemon and salt. What I got was what appeared to be steamed fish. No seasoning, with a slice of lemon. It was pretty awful. The fish cake thing was better as it was battered. The burgers came out sloppy and both friends that ordered them tried to get half way through before giving up and declaring it too gross to finish. The potato cakes were tasty, crispy and oily in a way that you want fried potato to be. So if you are in town and looking for some beach side eats, stick with the artery clogging classics.

My husband usually orders a burger, while my daughter gets a chicken wrap. We have been getting take away at Sails regularly for over 6 years and have never been disappointed. The really great thing is that once you get your order it is only a short walk to the beach where you can sit on a rock and watch the waves roll in while you eat!

On…read morearrival we were told there had been a cancellation so we got a table...& then we saw two additional empty tables outside during our dinner & many more opened up within 15 mins. We chose the set menu for $48 for one of us: gnocchi with peas/prawns & pesto which was a great dish, perhaps only lacking a touch of seasoning which a pinch of salt would have fixed although trying to get a waitress' attention proved incredibly challenging. The mains were the Atlantic salmon with side salad & the steak. The salmon's skin was unfortunately burnt at least 1/2-3/4 of the way becoming charcoal black at the end with the flesh really dry & overcooked. I felt sorry for the kitchen as someone screwed up & that fish should never have left the kitchen looking so clearly burnt. To add insult to injury I pulled out a 1.5" bone as well. The side salad was unbalanced in flavour with something slightly off. My husbands steak was hands down the ultimate winner. Cooked to absolute perfection & seasoned beautifully. Requested medium someone in the kitchen knew exactly what they were doing & it was a perfect cut of meat. The accompanying mash & greens were tasty too. The chocolate mousse was a very generous portion & great to share. The sorbet & orange slivers were great to cut the richness.
