Finally... a charming, knowledgeable, got the bedside-manner-thang-going-on-kind-of-doctor!! Dr. Rubottom gets Five Stars from me. After the bad experience I had with Dr. Krems, I'm so grateful that I found an Internist that really knows his business. Dr. Rubottom is in the same Medical Group, same address, but on a different floor. This gentle man spent 40 minutes just getting to know me, my family history, my aches and pains! During our consult, he checked my ears, throat, and all the other bits 'n pieces that are looked at and felt during a physical. I even got an anal exam, which is often overlooked. The "other one" said, "No doctor spends more than 10-15 minutes with a patient!" Well, listen up! This doctor does. And the whole time he talked and listened to me, he made eye contact. No writing, no computer....just eye contact. That's what I'm talking about!! Dr. Rubottom paid full attention to ME, the patient. And, he cared. I felt as though I had been seeing him professionally for a very long time. After our 40-minute meeting, the nurse came in and drew blood for the customary cholesterol/kidney/liver screenings. So, altogether, I was being pampered for almost an hour. I suggest that if you need a good doctor, please call Dr. Michael Rubottom. He has my Stamp of Approval, that's for sure. :) read more

Good doc, great bedside manner. No-nonsense type of guy, but takes as much time as is needed with you and really does care. He has been my doc for many years. No complaints with him. His staff however is erratic depending on their mood. Not always the friendliest or the most helpful. Ok...some times they are downright rude. I have stayed because of the doc, but have considered looking elsewhere several times, because of his receptionists. read more

Dr. Rubottom is a wonderful doctor! I was a little weirded out when he kept patting my thigh during an exam, but I quickly realized it was his attempt at calming me down (he does it to everyone, I watched him do it to my boyfriend when he went in for smoking cessation!). The only reason he lost a star was for his HORRENDOUS receptionist. She is evil, rude, and I've watched her bitch about other patients loudly many times. I definitely rec commend him though, even with the evil lady up front and his office being about 40min away from my house, I still go to him. read more

This Doctor is (or was) amazing. I need to start with that because I feel awful giving this practice a bad review. I selected him as a primary care because of the reviews on Yelp and they are right. Amazing bedside manner. Great guy all round and honestly makes you feel very comfortable talking about your concerns. Here's where it went so horribly south. The next time you go in there, there is a new system they're doing where his wife, Julie, grills you without him present in the room about all your daily activities, family medical history, eat, drink and smoking habits. That wouldn't be so bad if she didn't then harass you about things that you do and tell you that you're going to die if I dont switch to green tea and a Japanese diet. Then once all of this has finished, the Dr enters the room and you talk to him about why you're there. His wife doesn't leave. She actually sits there talking over him and making her own diagnosis of whatever she thinks is the issue and then yells out to the receptionist about what prescriptions or referrals she should be writing out for you. If this is the future of this practice, not only am I not going to recommend him... I'm not going to go back. read more

Stunned is the only word to describe the feeling of being "fired" as a very long time patient of Dr. Rubottom. I was sent a very terse letter on Dec 31st. saying I have 30 days to find a new doctor with no explanation or no referral to another doctor in his pratice. I have been a patient of Dr. Rubottom for well over 15 years. I stuck with him after he had a stroke and walking eggshells with his rude receptionist. When I called to ask for an explanation and to speak with the office manager I was told "the doctor is cutting back" and the office manager does not want to speak with you. This is highly unprofessional and I truly wonder if the receptionist is lying to me at this point. The "your fired as a patient" letter was written on the exact day I had words with the receptionist about why my only prescrption had not been renewed two months in a row, even though I had been to se Dr. Rubottom for a complete physical and the doctor said he would renew it. Now Im left scrambling for a new doc within a 30 day window which is not so easy being HMO. read more

Dr. Rubottom accepted me as a new patient after an eye exam noted that my blood pressure was too high. He was very helpful with my questions, and has developed a plan for me to get it under control with diet, exercise and meds. He is cautious about overdoing meds, which I prefer, so we crept up to find the right dosage. Dr. Rubottom is mature and sincere, and although I was fond of my previous doctor, the change of insurance plans blocked me from keeping him as my physician. I've been to Dr. Rubottom several times, but my last 2 experiences have been a nightmare. First, I was told AFTER my appointment that they no longer accept my insurance and was responsible for payment in full. I had a follow-up appointment recently - payment was made on arrival - but after waiting 55 minutes - I had to leave without seeing the doctor. I've been going to him for a few years now. Great bedside manner and he listens. He's also the Chief of Medicine at Marina del Rey Hospital. I was hospitalized there and my HMO wouldn't allow him to be my admitting doctor, but he called me in my room when I told the staff he was my primary. He also called my assigned doctor to tell him what to do with me. Of course, Dr. Rubottom was very interested to hear all about the "problems" I had with the staff during my hospital stay at a follow-up. Unfortunately, he's only with 1 medical group that can be horrible at times, hence the 4 stars. He also can sometimes be a bit in your private space "bubble" where his face is close to you when talking, which can make some uncomfortable, fortunately not me. It weirded me out a bit at first, but he does it because he's actually listening to you, unlike ALOT of other doctors. They only do labs for your annual physical in the office, which he does himself, otherwise you have to go to a laboratory. His receptionist is also temperamental, especially on the phone, but seems very polite when you're in the office staring her in the face. Go figure. read more

Dr. Rubottom became my Internal Medicine - General Practioner after being a patient of Dr. Robert Berkowitz who was my General for 10 years. Now, 11 years with Dr. Rubottom Who is kind, caring and knowledgeable doctor that I have ever had. He listens to every word. Notes the conversation and has the best demeanor. The time or art of spending time with your clients has not been lost with him, Even through his personal health issues, he reprensts perseverance and a wonderful role model. My yearly check up is detailed and and comprehensive. Who spends that kind of time with you now a days? Dr. M. Rubottom does. I highly recommend him, His receptist is also informative and helpful, you have to get to know her, and the addition of another doctor is just icing on the cake. I only see him once or twice a year, but the time that spent with me is priceless!!!! Bravo! read more

I have been seeing Dr.Rubottom for over 17years. He is the only doctor I have ever been to that will listen to and process every word you say. He is very thorough and explaines everything verbally, so you are along for the ride of his thought process on what is happening with you, why and what to do going forward. I have learned so much over the years by him doing this. He is extremely personable, caring and takes his time when he is with you. This has never changed in all the years I have been seeing him. VERY rare in a docotr today. He doesn't like to push pills down your throat and solve everything with a prescription. So if you're looking for a doctor to hand out pills to solve one issue only to create another and offer you another pill to create this death cycle of pharmaceutical hell, he's not your guy. He actually wants you to be healthy! Prescribes medications appropriately. He has never hesitated to have me see a specialist if he felt the need or I asked to do so. Dr.Rubottom was invaluable to me when I needed a procedure that my insurance did not want to cover beause it was out of network. A few yers back, he went out of his way to help me get the procedure that I needed with the only doctor, at that time, who performed this particular surgery. He also followed up with my recovery by calling me at home. Dr.Rubottom calls me personally to go over lab results. Sometimes it's as late as 8pm. Does your PCP do that? Dr.Rubottom does. He became a doctor for the right reason. He cares about people. I feel VERY blessed to have found him some 17+ years ago. Linda, the front office manager has been with him forever. She can be a little rough around the edges at first but once past that, she is a lovely person that I have become very fond of over the years. She is always there to help me out and I just adore her. She has so much to deal with on a daily basis and lets face it, some patients are pills themselves! read more

When it comes to my health, I am quite discriminating. My every experience with Dr. Rubottom has been an excellent one! He is pleasant, amiable, exceptionally knowledgeable, very experienced, fun, and quite obviously dedicated to providing his patients with the very best quality of care. Dr. Rubottom merits 6 stars! I concur with other reviewers that Dr. Rubottom's assistant/receptionist is bad tempered and rude. She is the antithesis of Snow White. More seriously, the few other people I have encountered on my life path who were so bilious were victims of long-term torment who had never fully recovered. Whatever the case, it is clear that something is gravely wrong. I pray for her. Nevertheless, be forewarned that you shall likely be subjected to this woman's petulance. Very unreliable. And I agree with reviewer winnie p about the nasty, abrasive receptionist. He used to be my primary care physician, now I have fired him and have a new doctor. I had a very bad flu recently, with high fever and aches all over the body. I called the receptionist with almost no voice and told her that I was worried because I was feeling like passing out. She just said "I'll have the doctor call you back" and hung up. After several hours nobody had called me (I had to wait 5 days until I finally got a call back!) and my fever was still going up. I am 56 years old and I know that at a certain age a flu can actually kill people, so I called 911. So now, in spite of the fact that I pay almost 300 dollars every month for insurance, I have a 1000 $ bill for the ambulance, a 350 $ copay for the ER and God knows what else for the physician to pay. Just because I needed a simple flu prescription! When I called the receptionist again after five days and yelled at her I finally got a call from the doctor in the afternoon. He said "I didn't worry about you because you are a healthy guy". Do I need to say anything else? Is a doctor who abandons his patients a good doctor? read more

Dr. Rubottom has been my doctor for over 30 years. He is absolutely the best. My visits are always constructive as he listens to any and all issues I raise and he responds informatively. Julie is also terrific. I continue to be very impressed by the amount of time they allocate to my visits. read more

Shame that I have to give this doctor only 2 stars because of his nasty, abrasive receptionist. She called saying that if my bill wasn't paid immediately that she was going to send it to a collection agency. How late was I in paying said bill? 3 weeks!!! Geez lady. Reviewer "Julie I" is Dr Rubottom's wife, so I am not surprised that she wrote a glowing review, as well as a mention of how nice the receptionist says... She is also a very unpleasant, rude person. It's no surprise that she knows the doctors family genealogy, as I'm sure she was told the information across the dinner table at home. That's pretty sad and desperate when you have so few good reviews that you have to recruit a family member to pick up the slack. read more

i went to a primary care physician in this same building and she was scary. i went to dr. rubottom and he was anything but - definitely knows his stuff. i was able to get in and out under 40 minutes, had all my questions answered and the front desk lady was very nice as well. i'm actually switching to a different group of doctors under my insurance, but it was before i went to him. fear not people, he's a good guy ;) read more
