Gary handles all of it and explains the issues if we have questions on the details. Gary's office staff is also very congenial and helpful. All appointments, phone calls, emails, etc. have been handled with timely professionalism. No surprises or excuses and I like that. I believe in having various "experts" to address life circumstances whatever they may be. In other words I have a "go to" person for medical, dental, legal, taxes, auto repair, etc. For taxes it's Gary Lynn Ward, CPA - heartily recommended!

RUN FOR THE HILLS & DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE!…read more I will absolutely NEVER use this company, specifically Caroline, again for my taxes. As a real estate investor who has a pretty standard W2 job - I wanted an expert to help us (my fiance and I) get the most depreciation from our real estate investments and we were willing to pay the high premium for their expertise. Well boy, were we wrong. At first everything was going according to plan...until it wasn't.... Caroline stopped responding to emails and phone calls until I had to call her assistant multiple times a week to ask for follow ups as we were approaching our tax extension deadline quickly. Finally got a hold of Caroline and she started filing our taxes using all of our documents we sent her from Quickbooks - we also had a brief (under 5 minute conversation about potentially doing a Cost Seg on our new investment property and while we were on the phone, we both agreed it wouldn't be financially beneficial for us to do that this year and we would revisit next year). Then this is where it turned south quickly. Caroline and her team got all of our documents together and since they charged $3,000+ to file our taxes - I thought we would be getting money back to offset it. Well on the phone when she and her team went through the filing, she had stated "great news, we are going to end up with a $14,000 tax return"..... turns out on email the very same day the tax return went from $14,000 to $4,000 so barely enough to cover our costs to hire Jeff Baker & Associates. This was Red flag #1. It was honestly extremely unprofessional to state and get us excited on one number and then put in an email a completely separate number that was much lower. Also, she denies ever saying that number but both of us heard the number loud and clear and had written the same number ($14,000) down in our notebooks - so it just didn't appear out of thing air as she claimed. Red Flag #2 popped up quickly after we had realized that we wouldn't be getting any money back, instead we would be in the negatives this year after paying Caroline & her team. Caroline sends her invoice and what pops up.... an $1,250 additional charge for a Cost Segregation....which again we decided not to do and she mentioned she charged us that amount because we had that conversation with her and she provided expert advise. She then asked if I would consider a $350 discount on the $1,250 fee she was trying to charge us - absolutely laughable. Needless to say after the experience I had with her team by this point....we did not pay the additional $1,250 fee and only paid for the work she did for us. Unfortunately, Caroline and Jeff Baker & Associates was a referral and I didn't do as much due diligence as I should have. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. I would use anyone over Caroline & her team. It was an unsatisfactory experience at best and one that hurt us financially as well. We will never make that same mistake again and would never recommend this company to anyone.

They are so thorough, and detail oriented, and friendly to work with - we simply couldn't be without them now. Prior to using By the Numbers, our business books were pretty messy and even neglected in some areas. It made it difficult for our primary accountant to do her work. But now, after being involved with the great folks at By the Numbers, we are ship-shape and now saving money like we never did before. The savings in taxes and other expenses they have helped us with more than pay for the cost of the service. If you're looking for a bookkeeping/accounting service in Tacoma for your business, you can't do better than By the Numbers. Kinda hard to find in downtown Tacoma, but trust me it's worth the effort.
