I'm incredibly disappointed with the experience we had with Dr. Scott Drooger. My wife went in for…read morea simple tooth extraction and requested a quote for a bone graft to aid in healing. After receiving a quote of over $1,000 for the bone graft--significantly more than the cost of the same procedure she received last year at her regular dentist for about a third of the price--we were understandably confused. We asked to speak with Dr. Drooger to better understand why the price was so inflated. When he entered the room, his demeanor was nothing short of unprofessional. His first words were, "Yeah?"--hardly a welcoming or respectful way to address a patient's concerns. When I introduced myself as her husband and tried to ask for a detailed explanation of the costs and the procedure, his only response was, "It costs this much because I went to school for 16 years." That was the extent of his explanation--no insight into the procedure, no breakdown of the charges, just a rude and dismissive attitude. We were left in disbelief at how we were treated. He didn't explain any of the procedure codes or why this bone graft was priced so much higher than the one my wife had received previously. Instead, he rushed out of the room without providing any further clarification, leaving us feeling dismissed and disrespected. After the encounter, we expressed our dissatisfaction with his behavior, but unfortunately, the damage had already been done. Although his dental assistant tried to answer our questions, the lack of professionalism and medical explanation left us with no confidence in proceeding with the surgery. We ultimately decided to leave and not go through with the procedure. The worst part is, that I would have probably paid for the overpriced bone graft had we been treated with basic dignity. My wife and I both took time off work for this appointment, only to be met with poor customer service and an unwillingness to address our concerns. We will not be returning and cannot recommend Dr. Drooger to anyone seeking quality care and professionalism. I would strongly recommend anyone considering dental work with Dr. Drooger to do additional research. From what I've gathered, this seems to be a common issue, and many others have had similar negative experiences. It's truly shocking that a doctor would respond this way to a patient simply asking questions about a procedure. Based on his unprofessional bedside manner, I can't imagine he provides quality medical care.

He is thorough, answers as many questions as I can throw at him, gracefully handles my MAJOR dental anxiety without judgement, and his staff are amazing. But if you are looking for someone who does not cut corners (and who wants that with your health?), is up front with payments and treatment plan, and just generally makes a painful and anxiety-inducing situation easier than I highly recommend. His surgical skills and expertise on cutting edge practices are exemplary. 10/10

I hate going to dentist and I thought I had found a good one. At her last practice things were…read moregreat. Things would get fixed and it never felt like you were being a bother. At this new practice it always feels rushed and the treatment reflects that. I've basically begged for help for a year over multiple appointments to deal with teeth pain and bad taste I had around implants. Multiple x rays were taken across two trips from what I recall, and kept being told I was all good. Eventually I had to assume they didn't know what they were talking about or just didn't want to deal with it so I went out for other opinions because they just wouldn't help me get to the cause. And this wasn't severe pain and I wasn't looking for pain treatment, I just wanted to fix the tooth and get rid of the taste I knew wasn't right. After seeing another dentist, an oral surgeon, and a prosthodontist I can assure you there was a lot wrong for quite awhile. Some of these other dentist have much nicer x rays and technology but they said even with older machines it should have been clear. But because I had waited too long to see them I am now looking at implant removal, maybe two of them, and then bone grafts to rebuild and then hopefully a reinstall of implant(s). I'm seeing multiple specialist because some want to pull one implant and some want to pull both because of how bad it got. Then I have to explain I haven't been ignoring my teeth, have been going in for cleaning every 6 months, and have specifically brought up there area in question for over a year and for some reason, the dental professional I put my faith and money into, steered me completely wrong and then wouldn't even return my calls since all this. Don't worry though I paid that last bill you were able to send even though my calls and voicemails were ignored. Do yourself a favor, protect your teeth and your own wellbeing and see someone who has the time, skills, and technology to get yourself treated correctly.

Since I had a full exam within the last 3 years, my insurance wouldn't cover it fully and it cost me $118 for the visit. I'm not upset about this because it makes sense that as a new patient, I would need to establish care and get a full examination. Just make sure to check with your insurance if they will cover a full exam so there aren't any surprises. I only had to wait 10 minutes before being called back by the dental hygienist. She was very kind and explained everything before she did it. She had a soft hand as well. When she was done with my cleaning, I didn't have to wait long to be seen by the doctor. As a patient with minimal dental issues, I had zero complaints about my appointment as a new patient.

South St. Louis Dental Group - Where You're More Than Just a Smile…read more If you're not going to South St. Louis Dental Group, you are making a huge mistake--and your teeth probably know it. Let's start with Dr. Joern. The man is an absolute gem. Not only is he incredibly skilled and gentle, but he also remembers every single detail about my life--even when it's been months between visits. He doesn't just care about your teeth, he cares about you. It's like seeing an old friend who happens to have a DDS. And then there's Dawn, the Queen of Clean Teeth. I will wait as long as it takes for an opening with her. She's that good. She makes cleanings fly by with her kindness, humor, and freakishly gentle hands. If you're nervous about dental visits, Dawn will change your mind. The front desk staff? Angels. Literal angels. I've shown up on the wrong day (more than once, let's be honest), and instead of judgment, I get warm laughs and a magical "don't worry, we'll fit you in." Who does that anymore? They do. Oh--and shout-out to Rhea, who is the absolute go-to for tooth whitening. She made the process comfortable, effective, and honestly... kind of fun? My teeth looked amazing, and I left glowing. Bottom line: South St. Louis Dental Group isn't just the best dental office in the area--it's a place where you feel welcome, seen, and genuinely cared for. Amazing people, exceptional care, and the kind of place that makes you look forward to going to the dentist. (Yes, seriously.) Stop scrolling and make your appointment already. Your teeth--and your soul--will thank you.

I want to start by saying that my experiences with the dentist and dental hygienists at this office…read morehave always been excellent. Unfortunately, my interactions with the reception staff have consistently been the opposite--they often come across as rude, which has made me feel uncomfortable on multiple occasions. Back in October 2025, I had an appointment scheduled for a cavity filling. When I arrived, I was told it had been canceled and that I should have been notified. However, I never received any notice--aside from a text message sent an hour before my appointment reminding me to arrive. When I explained this, another receptionist, who was assisting someone else at the time, shouted across the room, "I CALLED YOU AND LEFT YOU A VOICEMAIL!" The tone was unnecessarily harsh and unprofessional. As I tried to reschedule, I also felt rushed into choosing a new date. This wasn't my first negative experience with the front desk, and it ultimately led me to switch dental offices that same month. I did attempt to share my concerns with management, but nothing seemed to improve. To make matters worse, when my records were supposed to be transferred to my new provider, the wrong records were sent. Today, I'm writing this review because I received a reminder text for an appointment on May 8th--despite no longer being a patient there and never scheduling such an appointment. I called the office to clarify and spoke with someone named Molly. When I explained the situation, she responded with a sarcastic tone and interrupted me as I tried to say I was no longer a patient. She then abruptly ended the call by saying, "Well, I'm sure someone else will be very grateful for this appointment. Thank you and take care." I'm genuinely unsure what prompted this pattern of dismissive and unprofessional behavior, but it has been consistently frustrating. While the clinical staff are wonderful, the front desk experience has caused unnecessary stress and ultimately drove me to seek care elsewhere.
