Unfortunately, I share the same displeasure of working with Michael Wong that many other reviews have posted about. I was the last patient of the day and it was clear that Dr. Wong wanted to wrap up the day as soon as possible, resulting in the quickest dental cleaning I have ever had -- under 15 minutes in and out. Take your business elsewhere if you care about providers' attention to detail. What you'll notice when trying to book an appointment with him is that he is a one-man operation: he does the cleanings, exams, insurance validation, and appointments. For me, this meant incorrectly validating my insurance coverage and assuring me that my appointment would be covered in full. Once my insurance denied the claim (due to his oversight), he took zero accountability for his mistake, and immediately threatened to send the bill to collections. I strongly recommend seeking out another dental office that can actually verify your insurance coverage correctly, or you'll be on the hook for some surprise bills. read more

I went to Dr. Wong for a second opinion after being referred to him after my dentist passed away. Well, my dear friend was 100% correct about Dr. Wong being a great dentist! He confirmed I needed a root canal, and a cavity filled. Dr. Wong was so kind, and he was also very reasonable priced! And most importantly I had zero pain from the shot and during the procedure. I initially saw Dr. Wong 20 years ago. My insurance changed and along with that I was required to change dentists. During that time, I saw dentists every six months and took immaculate care of my teeth. Fortunately, I didn't have any problems. Fast forward to a couple of years ago, when my insurance changed for the better. I had been seeing a HMO dentist who at my previous visit noted that I might have the start of a cavity...my first in more than two decades. Since I had new fancy insurance, I chose to go to a new fancy dentist with a fancy office. That was a HUGE mistake. That dentist diagnosed me with eight cavities, replacing my root canal and a few other things. The cost was in the THOUSANDS. I went from a potential cavity to THOUSANDS of dollars of work in six months??? I went home in tears and my husband suggested that I get a second opinion. Dr. Wong, my dentist of 20 years ago, came to mind. He was very congenial when I reached out and said to send over my xrays. He still had my xrays from 20 years prior and compared them. According to Dr. Wong, my root canal looked exactly the same as it did when it was new. Turned out that the only thing he saw was that one small cavity, which he filled very affordably. It's now been two years and Dr. Wong gave me a clean bill of health on my last visit. (As for the previous dentist, turns out that he is on probation with the CA Dental Board for the EXACT same thing that was done to me.) I am SO HAPPY that I am back with Dr. Wong. He has excellent chair-side manner and top of the line equipment. He uses digital xrays and his scaling device was much more pleasant than the old fashioned scraping. His office isn't fancy with flashing photos of models, but it's clean and relaxing. His hygienist is so nice and knows how to make the right amount of small talk to relax a patient, while checking in periodically as she does xrays and cleaning to make sure that one is alright. My husband did have significant work that needed to be done. Dr. Wong referred him out to a surgeon when appropriate. I TRUST Dr. Wong and HIGHLY recommend him. read more

Dr. Michael Wong has been my dentist since 2015 and I highly recommend him. I rarely write reviews but he is highly deserving of praise. My teeth and gums have been in great condition since he became my dentist. He never tries to make money by insisting I do unnecessary procedures. My previous dentist was notorious for this. His office is very clean and he runs it extremely efficiently. He expects his patients to be on time for appointments, and he is always punctual as well. He is friendly, cares about his patients and hires great people to support him. Parking is free and easy if you walk a few blocks over near 14th St on California Avenue. read more

Dr. Wong's private practice encompasses several different aspects found in a good business. Dr. Wong himself is extremely attentive and honest. He doesn't try to sell you extraneous products unlike many commercial dentists. His office is quaint and humble which reflects his practice. He only has one assistant, and what's so unique about Dr. Wong is how he runs his office almost single-handedly. He answers his own phones when Anna (his assistant) isn't there, and you can tell that his sole purpose is to provide top-notch quality, affordable dentistry. He does his best to accommodate emergencies and last-minute appointments when possible and even works on Saturdays. Overall, Dr. Wong goes above and beyond to make your visit to the dentist a relaxed and worry-free one! In the middle of a cleaning, he suddenly stopped working saying that my time was up even though HE was the one that spent most of my time chitchatting, and there was no one else even waiting. Then he says he'll finish the cleaning the next time I come in. What?!? This is a strange place. Dr. Wong answers the phones, cleans your teeth, and gives you an exam. He's a one man show for the office. Great, he's frugal by not hiring other people. So does he pass on these savings to his customers...No! You would think that a small office would be more relax with rules...No! I showed up 10 minutes late for an appointment and he canceled my appointment. He refused to see me. He claimed I was 15 minutes late, but I was sitting in the waiting room while he was alone in his office. There's absolutely no parking at this office. Dr. Wong advises that you park at the Rite Aid that's several blocks away. Nice! read more

Friendly guy and can handle the basics, but didn't catch a lot of major work that was needed. Was sad I had to go elsewhere.

Dr. Wong was helpful, knowledgeable and above all else thorough without being needlessly expensive (esp. since I was paying our of pocket). He explained every action he was taking, its purpose in diagnosing my problem and helped me to understand his reasons for doing so. His methods are more up to date than my previous dentist (digital X-ray machine that apparently uses less radiation than the traditional, and a digital mouth camera - you'll just have to go to see what I mean), which is a plus b/c I'm a techno buff but don't like being zapped with X rays cause I'm not a superhero. Finally...not crazy expensive!!! He even gave me the option of cutting costs where he felt professionally responsible to allow (e.g. leaner X-ray set = less dough). Also, he wasn't trying to pitch me a new set of teeth, which some dentists do as a matter of course these days. Was having some tooth pain and got the recommendation off if YELP, and it couldn't have been better! Highly recommended! read more

Please do not go to this dentist if you have any cosmetic work that needs to be done! I cant vouch for any general work (cleaning, fillings, etc), but I needed to have a small, rather basic chip in a tooth fixed and this Dr completely butchered it. He literally hacked and sanded my poor natural tooth away, and left me with a two-color (he used bonding that was 2 shades darker than my other teeth), rough tooth that looked spackled and wasnt even polished - you could see the lines from the sanding drill on it - in areas that weren't even near the chip! Since then two other dentists have looked at it in awe and just shake their heads. It has cost a lot to have his work fixed and re-done. In addition, I felt uncomfortable at the office and found some of the Dr 's remarks to be condescending and belittling. I dont like to write bad reviews but do want to warn people - just dont go here if you need cosmetic work done - its not every dentist's specialty and it certainly is not his. read more

I have been going to Dr Wong for the last four years, mostly for basic cleanings. Occasionally, I've needed a fill from the past re-done. I went to him terrified. I won't get into why I was so scared of dentist but I literally would cry upon open my mouth. He carefully took his time with me. I like that he does the cleanings himself rather than a dental assistant. I like that it a small office and that he personally calls me to make sure my mouth is ok when a filling is done. After reading these reviews I felt compelled to write my own about my experience. My mum and I drive over an hour to see Dr Wong because he is something special.. and a breath of fresh air compared to the dentists I have been to in the past. For one, what dentist these days does his own cleaning?! He tells me he's old school and can get a better idea whats really going on inside your mouth if he does it himself. Wow, that's a different slant... but makes total sense. My 87 year old mum still wants to see him after 40 years even though we are not in the area, because he is honest, reasonably priced, and he is not going to upsell you work thats not needed. The best Dentist in the country, I have been going to Dr Wong for the past 14 years, he is honest, caring, personalable, he listens to what you need and very professional. I've been going to Dr. Wong for about 4 years or so - I found him through a Zoom whitening special and have been going to him ever since. I honestly have never met a dentist that cares so deeply about his patients. I had to have a front tooth implant done that I was really upset about and he walked me through it, was so supportive the whole time and made the experience as easy as it could be to deal with. He consistently goes above and beyond with his practice - he has made special appointments for me in emergencies, worked with me on what procedures I need and when, and is incredibly personable every time I see him (and thanks to my bad genetics tooth-wise I see him quite often). I also love his office and front desk staff. Those girls are some of the sweetest, nicest, most caring girls I have ever met at an office. Dr. Wong is great! I moved to LA recently and needed a dentist in Santa Monica. Dr. Wong was patient in explaining things to me, didn't try to upsell me on anything (even when I didn't have my most recent xrays with me and he would have had cause to say that I needed to pay for an entirely new set immediately, he suggested having them sent along from my previous dentist since they were only taken 11 months prior), and I was in and out in under an hour. Not only did he give me great advice, he also found several areas of my mouth that needed attention (cavities) that the free clinic had overlooked. I can now go back to the free clinic with high-definition pictures in hand and say, "What about this area here?" BIG BONUS: I found out after returning home that it was Dr. Wong who found a small suspicious growth in my stepfather's mouth and told him to have it checked by a physician. When my regular dentist moved to the South Bay, I was troubled because I'd not had the best experience with LA dentists and it had taken me a few years of trial and error to find him. Dr. Wong is a godsend. He's careful, thorough, and keeps the patient informed about everything that's going on throughout his procedures, which really helps take some of the edge off nerve wracking things like drilling. He also never ever tries to upsell me on extra procedures that he doesn't think are necessary. His office looks dated but all the amenities and tools seem to be state of the art. For instance, I'd never before seen X-rays taken on an iPad! I also love the fact that he uses email. Cost of parking and the ditzy receptionist that I got one time when I called to make an appointment (she kept forgetting to tell me things or ask me for certain information and having to call me back or yell for me to "wait a minute" right when I was about to hang up because she'd already said bye) are the only things that I dislike, but they won't keep me from continuing to go to Dr. Wong. read more
