Dr Aguilar has been in practice for many years, so he is very knowledgeable and has a great empathy for his patients. He listens to your concerns and takes the time to explain your condition. He is a conservative surgeon, meaning it is safer to do the surgery than wait for something terrible to grow. His office staff is very friendly and helpful. He gets many gifts from his patients, which is why there are so many orchids in the front waiting room. He takes insurance and is very affordable, compared to other surgeons, who cost a fortune. I respect and admire him. He reminds me of my father, who was a respected cancer surgeon. Dr. Aguilar did a lumpectomy for LCIS on my breast, and I had no complications. I had hernia repair surgery October 2016 with Dr. Aguilar, Everything was good until I wasn't getting better. He stated that I was just taking longer to heal than the rest of his patients. The pain and problems never stopped or went away. I went back to see him again and get his help once more after so many other times and he told me to my face that "It's all in your head; there's nothing wrong with you the implant or my work and said he was done seeing me. I will never refer anyone to a Dr. that would tell a patient that is in constant pain and its in your head. It is 2020 and I am still having problems with the mesh implant and I don't know what to do other than deal with the pain and miss work when it hurts too bad. read more

I can't say enough about how happy I am with the results of my umbilical hernia surgery. I developed the umbilical hernia during labor with my son nearly four years ago and went on to have another baby a couple years later so in addition to the hernia, my belly button was just looking terrible -- chewed up, stretched out, etc. The hernia caused me almost daily pain and I was extremely self-conscious about my weird looking belly button. I am a hippie and absolutely hate medical interventions, but I knew I would need surgery to repair my umbilical hernia. My PCP referred me to Dr. Aguilar, and I am so happy she did. Dr. Aguilar's staff was extremely helpful, kind, and responsive. Dr. Aguilar is a really nice guy and he took the time to answer all my questions, but the reason this review is 5 stars is because the results of the surgery six weeks later are simply INCREDIBLE. Not only did he repair the hernia, but he was able to deal with all the extra skin around my belly button. Now I have a normal belly button with an awesome looking spiral scar in the middle. He managed to keep the incision entirely in my belly button! He is simply a rock star, and I am looking forward to being able to wear bikinis again this summer. Thank you, Dr. Aguilar!! read more

Came to Dr. Aguilar for a repair on inguinal hernia. I thought the offices and staff very responsive and professional. Appointments went quick and always on-time. Dr. Aguilar explained in detail what he would need to do and was pleasant, knowledgeable and professional in discussions. I knew as soon as I entered the office that it was not going to be a positive experience. I mean what successful surgeon has a 90's style overstuffed love seat in his waiting area? In fact the entire office was furnished in what could only be described as garage sale/Roseville Auction rejects. Not very reassuring, especially for a guy that makes a living with a scalpel. I also couldn't help but notice that his entire staff (two women) seemed to be walking on eggshells anytime this man was in the same room with them. But maybe that was just my imagination. Upon entering the exam room the Craigslist free stuff decor continued. His "desk" was an old TV stand that he had turned around and placed a chair behind. The exam room seemed small, but maybe that was because it was myself, the dr. and two Med students. (With another student standing outside the door in the hallway) crammed into the room. I'm guessing he gets some sort of compensation for the experience he's giving the students? I guess they were not paying attention during the taking vitals training day since it took one of the students 3 tries to take my blood pressure correctly. The drs. first remark to me was that he "would not be answering any irrelevant questions" from me. I asked him if the fact that I was on blood thinners was irrelevant? His response was that it was "irrelevant, important but irrelevant." He also told me that a procedure that I had done recently probably didn't really happen. Because there was "no reason why that would have been done." Strange, because I remember in great detail when a blood clot was pulled out of the back of my leg during a 5 day stay in the Sutter ICU. But that must have been just a bad dream? By this time I had already checked out mentally on this joke of an exam. I watched him fumble thru medical text books he had on a shelf next to his TV stand. I guess Google was down during my visit? Or maybe the old books were just more up to date than any info provided online? I really don't understand how any patient could let this person near them with a scalpel. Needless to say I was not interested in scheduling a follow-up visit. As I left the office and walked down the hallway two words entered my mind. BOTTOM FEEDER. Beware of any positive reviews re. this provider. I doubt they're genuine. I have no reason to fabricate this review, I only hope that others will choose wisely when considering a surgeon. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Just had the worst customer service experience here. I switched insurance companies specifically to go to this office but they are refusing to see me because my information is not updated on the insurance website even though they have confirmed multiple times with the company that I am covered. After talking to the staff for 3 days in a row letting them know what is happening and them canceling my appointment twice even though I asked them not to while I figured it out. I talked to Dr. Aguilar today and even though he was very rude on the phone and told me that my insurance was lying to me, he said that he would see me if I would agree to cover the cost if my insurance company won't. I agreed but assured him that I am covered. My insurance company even called them and confirmed three different times today that I am covered. When I showed up to my appointment the door was locked and when Dr. Aguilar answered he said that I didn't have an appointment. They are completely incompetent here and if you are looking for a surgeon that cares about their patients, I would steer clear of them. read more

Went to Dr Aguilar very nervous and anxious but he explained the way he would deal with my problem very clearly and we began what turned into a 3 month procedure but he was determined to get the very best results and he did. He is my hero. I have and will continue to reccomend him to family and friends. We are still dealing with followup care but I have total confidence he will send me to the best of the best for care. Freya and Mary have also been great helping me with scheduling and even sliding me into cancellation spots so I did not have to wait months for surgery. I had a ventral hernia some years ago. Dr. Aguilar performed a surgery that left me feeling great and healing without pain pills. I was seen for a follow up and left the office believing I'd never see him again. Until now, I have been pain free. I was in PT and stretched my abdomen causing some discomfort. That led me to a new appointment with Dr. Aguilar and this opportunity for a positive review. One word of advice for anyone needing this surgery: Make sure you get the full report from the hospital and any information about your mesh (if your surgery requires it). Keep all of your records because they may not be available later. This will help if you ever have any new problems or if you have some scarring that may cause discomfort even years later, as you age. What a nightmare. I was left with a horrible scar with in indent on my thigh and an infected surgery site in my shoulder blade. . He removed 5 lipomas from my left thigh and one from my back. On the morning on the surgery, while sitting in a hospital bed - already to go- he tells me he only got approval to remove one lipoma from my thigh. I told him,"if I would have known, I would not have consented to the surgery". He told me to calm down-big insult since I sad it in a normal disappointed voice. With a long pause and the fact that I did not wish to proceed -He said, he would remove all of them but just would not get paid for all of his service The rest was a nightmare: My back incision opened up. I contacted the office- sent a picture of open wound -they showed doctor and said it was okay and that it needed to heal from inside out-it opened more -so I called again and again they told me it was okay-and it needed to heal from inside out. Because of his surgery schedule and no nursing staff on staff and I was not able to get in timely (about a week out-ridiculous). So, I went to my regular doctor- she was concerned and got me into another surgeon that day. My wound was infected-she said it would not heal for 6 mouths -if at all. She was very alarmed. She performed another surgery that day. The other incision on my leg has an indent. The last surgeon said it was due to his technique. Now, I am left deformed indent in my left thigh for a simple surgery -all due to a surgeon,if you can call him that. One more thing:I asked if this procedure could be performed with a local-he said no - that I had to be put under. The other surgeon does these surgeries all the time in her office with a local. read more
