We have only dealt with Dr Allara and Dr Yoon over the last 25+ years. My wife has very complicated health issues Drs Allara and Yoon have taken the time and effort to become familiar with these issues. I usually don't care for the way most doctors treat patients but Allara and Yoon are exceptional, they actually treat patients as patients not numbers. My wife and I have had horrible experiences with medical professionals but never have we had one complaint with Allara and Yoon. These guys understand that all patients are not the same. They understand that what is normal for one patient is not necessarily normal for another. They actually put some thought into your problems instead of just running down a check list. At one time I thought proper medical treatment was no existent North of Boston but after 25+ years of dealing with MFM Health I know that good health care can be found. read more

We recently brought our 6-month-old daughter to this practice after moving and searching for a new doctor for our family. While the physician herself was kind and pleasant, I was extremely disappointed with the overall level of professionalism in the office. During our visit, I could hear medical assistants speaking loudly outside the exam room, asking things like, "Who's room is Ava in?" and "What room is she in again?" It did not inspire confidence, especially as a parent bringing in an infant. I ended up calling out, "Ava is in here," just to clarify. At the appointment, my daughter was supposed to receive two vaccines. About a week or two later, I received a call from the office informing me that one of the vaccines had not actually been administered. Instead, she was given saline. I was told they later found the vaccine at the bottom of an empty box. As a parent, this is extremely concerning. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical in a medical setting, especially when it involves infants. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling uneasy about the quality control and communication within the practice. We will be going elsewhere. read more

I've been a patient at MFM for about four years. At best, the experience is average, but it often falls below that. It's very difficult to get appointments, which makes me think they may have taken on more patients than they can reasonably manage. For certain types of care, they require patients to sign contracts that include what I feel are unnecessary "monitoring" appointments. I can't say whether these appointments are medically necessary or not, but I can say they are a huge financial drain having to shell out co-pays left and right for copious amounts of appointments that have almost no value or substance from the patient perspective. I've also had multiple issues with doctors refusing to send prescription refills, even for routine medications, until I schedule another appointment. The problem is that they don't warn you in advance; you only find out when you're already due (or overdue) for a refill. This practice causes unnecessary gaps in medication that's meant to be taken consistently. It's frustrating that the same doctors who stress the importance of consistent medication are also creating obstacles that prevent it. Overall, my experience has been disappointing, and I feel this practice prioritizes maximizing visits and bureaucracy over practical needs of patients. read more

First off, MFM, in my family and I's opinion, is hands down one of the best, if not the best, all in one doctor's office in the Essex County area. I have been seeing Dr. Mark Allara &/or one of his nurse practitioners for the past 3+ years. I have had nothing but positive experiences with my doctor, his care team, my dermatologist, GI Doc and behavioral health. All of the staff at MFM's main office @99 Conifer Street, Danvers, MA, are very friendly and professional. HORRIBLE SERVICE-My daughter has not seen her PCP in over a year - although we had an appointment - we waited almost 2 hours - PCP never arrived so we left. The NPs are 5 stars. No one can seem to get their act together. A year ago I received a bill for a procedure that was 100% covered by insurance, if you bill it correctly. I contacted MFM in writing, by phone, and in person explaining the issue and that they need to resubmit the bill. They never called, or wrote me back. They sent the bill to collections. DO NOT PAY ANYTHING OTHER THAN YOU CO-PAY. Chance are they billed incorrectly. Mistakes happen, I understand. I identified the mistake, contacted MFH several times and they did nothing. Unfortunate because the doctors are good. I don't have this kind of time to waste on their mistakes. Second issue: They texted and sent emails incessantly during the 8 weeks prior to my Annual appointment. I confirmed every time. After 6:00 pm the evening before my early morning appointment, they left me a voice mail that they need to reschedule because the NP I was scheduled with left over 4 months ago. There have been more issues but I think we are conditioned to accept the minimum from health care professionals. read more

I changed to a female physician at the practice since I'm getting older and I am a woman. I thought there'd be a bond and supportive care ...boy I was so wrong! when I have a difference of opinion or concern about my medical treatment, this female doctor says constantly "I'm the doctor here" who says that to a patient and dismisses me like I'm not part of deciding how I feel. She shows up late on video meets. The last one was one hour late and not even an apology. Today she cut my dosage of glp1 medication which I asked to be on for many health reasons to 2.5 not even a maintenance dose! because she feels my bmi is low( it's in the normal range for my height) it will destroy all the medical gain I've made! She did this without conferring with me at all she just did it!!!! I found out at the pharmacy. She won't respond to my calls about this sudden dosage change!??What doctor does that? Not ethical Patient communication!! I've asked to change to the other female doctor in the practice since my trust is gone and her lack of respect is too much for me. so I believe Dr M is miffed. I'm blown away with her lack of caring and unethical treatment. Now she's sabotaging all my positive gain with this treatment because " she's the doctor here" and just makes changes with my medication without any patient discussion!!! My daughter and I have been patients of Dr. Mann and her staff for a few years. While the doctors and nurses are fine, our experience dealing with the administration at the front desk has been awful. My daughter had an appointment scheduled today at 11am that I had set up via phone last month. She checked in and after 30 minutes they told her the internet was down and there was no record of her having an appointment. The front desk staff is consistently rude and inept. Why did they make her sit there for 30 minutes before telling her she didn't actually have an appointment? She also had a 20 minute tele-health call to get a prescription refilled and we were charged $300! And at the end of the phone call the nurse said "oh are you suicidal by the way?" "Oh you're not? Ok bye." So incredibly unprofessional. We will be looking for a new practice where the staff actually cares about our health and well being and don't treat us like garbage. read more

I find the inconsistency of the Endocrinology team across patients frustrating (myself and 2 friends have been told different rules/guidelines/restrictions for the same services). I was diagnosed with cancer which was first caught by this office, but when I had my annual, my primary care was shocked to learn I had cancer. (!!!) This office takes forever to answer calls. There is always a significant wait time on calls. I called twice and after 12 minutes on hold, was told they were closed, even though I was calling during office hours. make sure you watch carefully and take notes when asking for a referral. I have never gone to see a specialist and had the referral sent before my appointment. I always have to call. as a patient, you need to follow up constantly with the office regarding referrals. Even when they say they did it, they have not. And then they never have any record of it. read more

Everything that is wrong with the medical system embodied in this practice. In 2020 I suffered a life threatening hemorrhage and subsequent hospitalizations and heart issues because of gross mismanagement of my extreme blood loss and electrolyte imbalance. The doctors never knew what was happening and were completely absentee from my care. They would be in contact days after my hospitalizations and my condition deteriorated, until ultimately I left the practice and found a concierge doctor that helped me become healthy again. I chalked it up to being medically complicated and kept my daughter in the practice. She has had years of ear infections whenever spring and summer arrive and she swims. She was given strong oral antibiotics in the past and developed C-Diff from them. After gross mismanagement of diagnosing it and making me jump through hoops to show them this is what she had - they wanted me to wait days to diagnose and treat but insisted that is what she had and to treat her for it and took her into Childrens hospital to get the tests needed it was diagnosed - if I had waited on their timeline it would have been a grave situation. After that the doctors team agreed they would give us ear drops as soon as she started developing symptoms. This week she had another ear infection while away. The nurse in call made me jump through hoops again to get ear drops and was rude about prescribing them. Later I called the practice to discuss with the doctor getting a referral for an ENT - which likely should have been done years ago - I was told I needed to have a virtual appointment. This makes no sense as they need to look into my daughters ears and having an appointment on a Friday afternoon will only prolong the need for in person care. I agreed and the practitioner NEVER SHOWED I waited online for 40 minutes. Then I called the practice and they kept me on hold for over an hour then sent me to their voicemail at 5pm when they closed. Absolutely terrible! We will be pulling our family out of the practice and telling everyone how grossly unfit they are to treat anyone! read more

Dr Allara is a very nice guy however, I have not been thrilled with the care my mother has been receiving lately. She has had significant swelling in her feet with very high blood pressure. It took a long time to get through and get and appointment. Once she got the appointment he changed her blood pressure medication. I was on face time and asked him if she should make an appointment with her cardiologist, he said that wasn't necessary. I wasn't ok with that and did it anyways. They saw her feet and did a DVT ultra sound, changed her BP medication, did an x ray of her leg, have a vascular consult pending and has 2 more follow up appointments with the cardiologist. They discovered a baker's cyst in one of her knees causing her knee pain from the tests the cardiologist's test. So glad I didn't listen to him and went with my gut. My mom went for a physical this week and was showing me her lab results. The NP she saw was not worried about any of it and not worried about her feet still being swollen. I was comparing her labs from a year ago and her kidney function is trending in the wrong direction as are some other figures. My mother asked about her vascular appointment and was told it was not necessary. Since they do not show on the lab report as "high" or "low" nothing is flagged. They didn't even order an A1c, they ordered a TSH but no T3 or T4. You need all of it for the whole picture. These were routine yearly tests! I want a practice for my elderly mother that is proactive and not reactive. I will not listen to them and go with my gut and get her a vascular appointment because they clearly don't know what is wrong with her. We as a family started with Dr. Allara when he first opened his practice almost 30 years ago. I have been wanting to switch my mother out for several years now. This is just the push I need. The practice has changed and not for the better. Now the challenge of finding a new Dr for my mother....sigh. read more

First of all, I'd like to say that my primary care Dr. Yoon is an excellent doctor, I believe he's been my primary care doctor for about 10 years. but at the beginning of Covid and ongoing Middleton Family Medicines Quality of care has dropped so drastically. I get the feeling (I get the feeling because it's how they treat me). They just want to get you in and out of there, and they are not looking out for your best interest. They seemed were very different, so much better prior to Covid, running by strangers. you don't get the name of the person you're speaking with The answering service claims to be Middleton Family Medicine's office. When the honest truth is you're call-center, so if I ask you with your call-center, you should be honest and say yes, this is the call center but for some reason ($$$) are trained to lie. It feels disheartening when your primary care doctor, who is supposed to be looking out for your best interest and your health because your health is the most important thing you have. But when your doctor's office just cares about money over their patients well-being. You feel like you're at a car dealership. I'm leaving because I have to. I care about my health. That's why I'm leaving. It's appalling that their website is still pushing three boosters when it's a fact that they're not even vaccines there gene therapy it shouldn't even be on their website. It's just goes to show how much more they care about your money. The bottom line is it it doesn't feel like it used to, probably because it isn't like it used to be. It doesn't feel like you're in good hands with Middleton Family Medicine. other than that I like Dr. Yoon, he's an excellent doctor. while the care is pretty good, this practice has exploded. more and more patients all the time. The experience is not nearly what it was. Very long hold times when calling- for Endocrinology, you have to leave a message- have done it and no call backs Or it takes 2 days. They tell you to send a message through their portal, but it's not unusual to get no response. I think that admin assistants are in abundance and fielding calls portal messages. I like my NP who I see regularly, so the two stars is because of her. However, the 'dietician' on staff here is a major liability. She told me I should consume 1250 calories a day if I want to lose weight. A medical professional suggested 1250 calories a day for a 34 year old woman. I was incredibly upset when I read this, not only because it's absolute horse you-know-what but also because... how many women has she seen that actually trust her and end up starving themselves in the name of 'weight loss'??? I spent the whole day crying just imagining it. Whatever you do, stay FAR AWAY from the 'weight management' or whatever the heck false BS they call it. I've had general good luck with the doctors here. The problem is the office staff. On one occasion Middleton Family Medicine provided a 3rd party lab with an incorrect address for me which led to the bills from that lab going somewhere else. After 6 months of not getting paid the 3rd party lab understandably put the bill into a collections agent. The collections agency found me immediately. Once aware of this I contacted the lab that did the work and paid them with the hope my credit wouldn't be impacted. Today my son received notice of an appointment that was made for my daughter. Not only did they confuse family members for the appointment (they thought it was for him) but the appointment had been rescheduled a long time ago and should never had even been in the system. Calling the office we were nearly hung up on, treated rudely by their staff. They were unwilling to look into the matter to try and fix things. After being put on hold for 20 minutes we hung up. Believe me when I tell you that this isn't a "we are busy with pandemic" problem. This is ineptitude and a lack of caring of their office staff on fixing issues. Mistakes happen. However, being unwilling to help correct things is not ok. If you have another option you may want to go elsewhere. I am currently looking to see if there is another option. read more

I only started with middleton family medicine in february, 2023. i was looking for a new primary office and someone highly recommended them. At first it started off excellent. then it went downhill. i have several health issues i am dealing with. currently i have been waiting two weeks for a referral to go out that i need very badly. nine days after i was told it went out i called the specialists (2 of them) they had nothing so my husband called. it supposedly did but at this point no idea. messages and phone calls from late last week are unanswered i have heard NOTHING. i had a echo done sunday morning, 2 days ago for something concerning that was seen on a x ray.. no results yet..alot of miscommunication or they just dont care. i left a message this past weekend asking for management to call me. noone has called yet. but probobly the biggest thing is for the most part i get no help or what i need UNLESS my husband speaks for me. i say something nothing my husband speaks they cant move fast enough for him. people i have talked to have said unless my husband was my legal guardian or there is a health care proxy they cant do that. its illegal. its against hippaa guidelines. no im a competent woman. i can and do speak for myself they just ignore me . i have multiple health issues im dealing with and as of now no messages or phone calls, no test results, nothing new on my portal. please do not go here. several instances, i couldnt get a mri until my husband spoke, i couldnt get a antibiotic i needed last friday until my husband called, i couldnt get my endoscope/colonoscopy results in writing prior to my follow up until my husband called. Dr. ollingtons letter and pathology report was on my portal 10 minutes after my husband called. i spent over a week trying to get them to no avail. i could go on but i think that is plenty. read more

I have been going to MFM for several years now and the NP's and office staff and doctors are incredible!! I use the patient portal for almost everything I need and the responses are usually prompt but sometimes can take a few days. Not an issue because if it was that important I would call the office and get what I needed right away. I moved from Middleton last year to Methuen and I still drive to Middleton for all my medical needs. I wouldn't change from MFM! I was a patient here for a few years and in the beginning thought that the bad reviews were just unlucky or blown out of proportion. After my experiences I can say that you are better off going somewhere else if you care about your health. I am not adverse to a business trying to make more money, but I had so many billing issues with this office and the person they employ to deal with the public about their billing seems to either not understand what's going on, or is desperately trying to dampen the constant fires they create. After calling repeatedly for months to try to get a couple of billing issues resolved that had me out about $1000 in the beginning, I was finally just reimbursed without them ever solving the issue. Middleton ended up abruptly discontinuing acceptance of my insurance policy I had at the time. No big deal, right - they'd let me know? Nope! Got months worth of bills from them because no one ever told me despite me being a patient there for an extended period of time. When I emailed to inquire about visit costs if I paid out of pocket for some of my upcoming appointments, I noted that I was asking because I would be charged out of pocket for them. I received a nasty phone call from the billing person berating me for suggesting I would be responsible for bills going forward. I don't know if she just misunderstood my email or what, but I just wanted the freaking prices I'd have to pay for future visits. It wasn't even like I was accusing them or complaining. The care is awful here. After being referred to their nutritionist in house, I was instructed to consumer 1200 calories a day and triple my already high water intake while adhering to a low fat diet. I did this even though it seemed extreme and ended up really sick. After feeling like garbage for months and a few follow up visits and bloodwork, I finally reached a really bad point with my health and luckily ended up with a NP visit instead of the usual doctor I saw here. She noted my previous bloodwork was extremely abnormal and was most likely causing my problems. I had never been informed my bloodwork was abnormal and when I logged into my portal it wasn't even documented like all previous labs. I asked the NP why they hadn't told me about it and she tried to claim it was because they were focused on another minor issue I had. But the reality is that visit was only about the symptoms that had been caused by my abnormal bloodwork - I wasn't there about the routine issue at all and that wasn't even addressed, either. And this wasn't a small issue either, I was close to collapsing just trying to go on a short walk. Anyway, after half a year of treatment I am finally feeling better, but it was extremely distressing and caused me half a year of absolute anguish. Rude people. The people here are so freaking rude. I know it's difficult to deal with people and especially during covid, but holy hell. I have a heart of stone and almost cried after one call just trying to set up an appointment because the guy was so nasty to me. There were a few times I had to call in the future to set up appointments and if he answered I just hung up and waited until later to call to get someone else. The checkout people are the most vile old ladies I have ever had to deal with. Extremely nasty and I wasn't ever a problem - just politely waited my turn to check out. All they had to do was print me out a form occasionally but apparently that annoyed them and that warranted eye rolling and yelling "what!?" at me while I just stood there. TL;DR You will sometimes get decent care here if you get the right person on the right day, but it won't be top notch care and the other issues you will wade through will make you miserable. I've never been a big "doctor" guy. If I'm sick I tough it out. If I'm really sick, I go to the hospital. Then I turned 30. No longer deluded by the invincibility of your 20's, I thought I might as well get a doctor to get checkups at least. Hell, I do it for my car, shouldn't I for myself? Family Medicine is great. It's a one stop shop, as they're proud to tell you when you go there. They can perform routine checkups, lab work, and even some ER functions. The nurses are nice and professional and the doctor's are great. The other thing I really like is the total honesty; you get a lab done, you get the lab results in the mail a few days later. Your doctor also sends a letter clarifying the results for you and talking about follow up etc. Overall, an excellent medical experience. read more

From the welcoming front desk staff to the nurse practitioners and the great doctors I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Janice Thoen and Britney Zolotas could be doctors! Drs. Allara ,Tramantozzi, and Yoon are all great and they take whatever time you need to listen to your concerns and follow up with appropriate tests and suggestions. They run the campus clinic at Endicott college. My daughter went there for an office visit - they checked her breathing and prescribed antibiotics. She was there for 10 minutes. Level of care was fine. But we were billed $375 for this because my daughter was a "new patient". My wife went for an office visit here in CT for the exact same issues - $126. After a number of discussions with their billing folks at the campus and main office and having a great conversation with DR Ting - they are going to resubmit with a different billing code to lower the cost to 194 - very much appreciated. I still would suggest asking pricing up front especially for the college clinic since there are bound to be so many "new" patients as students roll through. read more

This place went from "good" to "serviceable" to "avoid at all costs" -I have an issue EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH. for my prescription. I have wasted countless hours on the phone with their staff to resolve this - but here we are 5 years later and it continues. -Prescriptions that require ANY prior authorization take a minimum of 5 business days to get filled....if they ever get to it. -You are on THEIR time, nothing will be expedited, arranged, or fixed outside of their normal business procedure. Even if the original delay was their mistake. -I have heard the phrase "I've marked this as urgent..." or "I have personally asked that the doctor/PA call you..." only to have 7-14 days go by without any resolution. Bottom line: If you want mediocre care, tons of frustration, and a horrifically impersonal touch: Middleton Family Medicine is for you. I just switched over to MFM and I am SO happy that I did. The nurse who checked me in and checked my vitals was so personable and funny; and my NP was thorough. You could tell she truly loves her job, as well as her patients. I also really liked that they are up to date with technology, I signed in with an iPAD and thought that was great as well ! I had labs done, and the next day I heard from my NP, the service was great and I will recommend this office to anyone of my family and friends looking to switch. As much as I am happy I made the switch, there are a few things they could work on. The ladies answering the phones, and the ladies at the front desk. Customer Service & a Smile goes a long way ladies ! As well as the ladies taking your blood for labs, woooah the lady I had was horrible, stuck me and went right through the vein, I told her and she didn't seem to care, a week later still sore and horrific bruise.
