I had the tortilla soup, which was easily one of the best I've ever had--rich, comforting, and full of flavor. I also ordered a custom chicken breast stuffed with huitlacoche, and it was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. Hubby asked me to find good authentic Mexican food. Asked and answered. A family run restaurant with fresh and delicious food. So much food Nd can't believe we ate it all. There was no talk of to go boxes. It was all about trying to find room to eat it all. I wanted to try Nopales and the chef made me a special order of just that. We had Huitlacoche- mushroom corn. The place is so beautiful. The seating outside is so colorful and a wonderful breeze. Best is that we supported a local small business. Ernesto and his little son were wonderful. This is a good spot, within walking distance of the pyramids. The owner was also very friendly and hospitable and loved to chat with us about anything and everything! A fantastic meal and fantastic service. Who cares if it's prices are a bit higher than the other options in the area. The quality, cleanliness and hospitality were well worth it. We ordered way to much food but everything was delicious. I got the molcajete and arrachera which were both great, but unnecessary to get together. The molcajete comes out in a sizzling bowl carved from local lava rocks overflowing with nopales, steak, chicken, cheese and chicharron. My wife got the green chili enchiladas which were awesome, but I have to say the true winners were the the Quesadillas de Huitlacoche and the Tortilla Soup. Huitlacoche is a delicacy known in English as "Corn Smut" but is more accurately described as Mexican truffle. Earthy and delicious with a garlicky flavor underneath. The Tortilla Soup is one of the best I ever had and ridiculously fresh. Almost forgot the margaritas...OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD! Plus they hooked us up with some shots of mezcal at the end. If you're at Teotihuacan and want something to eat after wandering around this should be your only option. read more

I don't eat beef, so they prepared a wonderful volcanic pot platter for me with shrimp, fish, pork, chicken and cactus. My friend has a vegan mole quesadilla which was good too. My partner and I walked over here from the pyramids (10-15 min walk), completely starving, and we were greeted by the nicest folks! The food was tasty and fresh. We tried: the crispy chicharrones in guacamole, the yummy & buttery escamole (in season mid Feb) with nopales, huitlacoche (corn smut) quesadillas, and the large steak plate (the queso pot was so gooey and scrumptious!). The flavorful refried beans on the steak plate were so good I would have ordered more if I wasn't already getting full. It was plenty of good food for two people hiking ruins for 5 hours. The bathrooms were clean, the service was prompt and friendly, the shaded patio area blocked the gusty winds and strong sun that day and provided a wonderful reprieve. The only reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars is because it was pricey for what I was paying in cdmx-but again, it's a high volume tourist area. This restaurant is about 10 minutes walk from gate 3 of Teotihuacan Park. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: Well located if you're at the park and want some lunch. Also, the people are really nice, service was great and the staff were very friendly and not pushy (also spoke great English). The food is also pretty tasty, nothing noteworthy, but very much appreciated after a morning of walking around the park. Cons: Overpriced by Mexico City standards. The food is fine but not great and it's not surprising it's pricey considering how close it is to the park. All in all, not a bad lunch spot. The dark mole, chicken flautas, and quesadillas are tasty. read more

After all that history and hoofing around, you really need a drink and some grub. Given the fairly remote if highly touristed area, this place is really good. Service was superb, the drinks well made and the food was top notch. Slightly pricey, but well worth the stop. There was even a good guitar player circling. This was the perfect spot to eat after a long morning exploring the Teotihuacán temples. We tried the escamoles (ant larvae), guacamole, quesadillas, and steak. All were very good and filling. Restaurante Meztli is a small and clean restaurant on the back side of the pyramid of the moon, just outside the fence. It is pretty expensive for lunch, but you have to consider that you are in the middle of a tourist trap. With that caveat, it is quite good. We ate on the nice patio. There was a nice dining room as well as a full bar and clean bathrooms. DF was not feeling too adventurous, so she stuck with the Enchiladas Verdes (130 pesos or $6.50 USD). They were great. The rice and beans were meh, but the locally made corn tortillas with queso oaxaqueno (or something similar) doused in salsa verde and topped with queso fresco and crema were fantastic. She also had a margarita (80 pesos or $4), which was great and had a little passion fruit. DM ordered the Caldo Xochil (55 pesos or $3 dollars), which is probably the most boring soup in Mexico - chicken broth with shredded chicken, rice and some carrots, celery and cauliflower. I ordered the Penacho Teotihucanano (540 pesos or $27 dollars) for DM and I to split. It had caracol Azteca (small snails in a tangy vinaigrette that were pretty chewy and not good), chapulin (fried grasshoppers that were VERY tasty but I was too full to finish), escamoles (crazy good ant eggs sautéed in onion and butter - great in a taco with guacamole), guacamole (some of the best that I have ever had), and nopales (cactus salad - made a great taco with the guacamole). We were stuffed and enjoyed most of it as well as a our wonderful hosts in the traditionally decorated restaurant. I would definitely recommend. read more

We happened upon this spot after walking to the top of the temple of sun. We were the only folks there, so the service felt extra attentive and friendly. The food was delicious! We had guacamole and chips, enchiladas with flor de calabaza and vegetables in salsa verde, fried shrimp and fries, and the daily special, bbq lamb. We also enjoyed a jugo frío - very refreshing! Our tour guide brought us to this colorful restaurant right behind the Pyramid of the Moon. We tried everything he recommended- cactus salad (nopales), Mexican caviar (ant eggs), adobo (Chamorro) and pescado Vera Cruz which was the best for me. An authentic Mexican meal. I would say it was pricey, it was the most expensive meal we paid for during our stay in Mexico City but the staff was wonderful. They were very attentive and took good care of us.
