New Mexican taqueria in town! This restaurant converted from a food truck to a full restaurant and recently opened in February. As a quick one sentence summary, this place has an authentic vibe with above average tasting Mexican food (especially the guacamole) that I can definitely recommend for Hamburg standards, although I wasn't happy with how expensive the tacos are.
As this place calls itself a "taqueria," I tried four tacos: al pastor (pork), rib eye steak, black beans with plantain, and a special taco: garlic cauliflower (vegan). The tacos are expensive for what's given, ranging from 2.70 euro to 3 euro each. I was also served seemingly less fillings in the tacos than some of the advertised photos on Facebook.
I felt like each would have benefited from being double shelled (this is how many tacos of this style are from my experience and it looks like their food truck tacos were double shelled at some point). The black beans with plantain taco only had one plantain, which I was annoyed by (this was the worst taco out of the four - the beans were pretty average tasting), and the el pastor didn't have nearly as much meat as the rib eye.
In terms of taste, the tacos were decent, although you can find better tasting tacos for half the price in USA. However, keeping in mind we're in Hamburg and the Mexican food here frankly sucks, the tacos do taste good (especially if you're not used to Mexican food, I think you'll really enjoy this place).
The cauliflower taco was my favorite and had a bit of creamy guacamole on top, although I wish there was more of everything inside (see photo). I was actually really impressed by the taste of the guacamole and would recommend you order some. I saw a table with a guacamole and queso with tortillas appetizer that I'm sure tastes great based on my sample of the food so far. The chips also looked tasty, and I hope to try these with guacamole when I'm back here.
The two house salsas were good, but I would like to see more options in the future. There was only haberno and chipotle, yet the Facebook photos for the food truck version showed 7 salsas, and I especially thought a spicy salsa was missing as the haberno was pretty mild. The presentation of food, interior decorations, music, and staff were all nice, and the espresso was decent. read more
