I have lived in my Levitt Bowie house for more than 20 years with an ugly but functional bathroom. 6-7 years ago Metropolitan Bath and Tile renovated the bathroom. Fast forward to today and the bathtub has rusted out around the drain. "Quality Control" says there's nothing they can do about it, that I am just out of luck. My original bathtub was going on 60 years, this one didn't last 7. Now water leaks out through the rusted areas. I was honestly shocked at their lack of response to the situation. read more

These reviews make no sense to me. I can't imagine that the people who have written their reviews worked with the same company as I did. I had, hands down, the best experience I have ever had with a contractor in my 15 years of home ownership. If the other reviews make you skeptical, I encourage you to give them a chance. Here is as detailed an account of my experience I can offer: Our master bathroom has a shower seat and two shower heads that spray constant water onto the bench. The homebuilder for this particular model was pretty stupid in covering the bench completely in tile, which I learned the hard way is not water proof. My husband and I tried for months to find a contractor to come out to give us an estimate to fix the problem. So many failed to even return our calls. A few came out, took measurements, and then we never heard from them again. One gave us a ridiculously low quote based on cell phone photos of the shower...so I remained skeptical. I was not hopeful when after months of searching we were able to schedule an estimate appointment with Metro Bath and Tile. I had been let down too many times before. The owner showed up at my home at the exact time he said he would be there. He was extremely knowledgeable, and had assured me that he worked on the exact model of my shower before and had a cost effective, attractive solution that would solve the problem from here on out. He took his time explaining to me what was necessary, and even though I'm a complete novice I felt I really understood. Then he took thorough measurements and photos, and provided me with a quote right on the spot! I asked how soon the work could be done, and he said with such a small job it was possible it could be fit in soon, called his office, and had me scheduled for the next week. He estimated the job would take between 3 and 5 days. On the day that the job was scheduled to begin, the contractor arrived right on time. He got to work right away, taking care to lay down protection on my hardwood floors from the entrance of my house to the master bedroom. After he finished work he completely cleaned up so that it was as if he never came in the first place. While I was unable to use my shower during the time that the work was being done, every other part of my bathroom was perfectly functional. The work was completed ahead of schedule, and the end result was even better than I imagined it would be. It cost a lot more than the low ball estimate from the random contractor, but I couldn't be happier to pay for the lack of headache. read more

I had Metro Bath and Tile perform a partial remodel of my master bathroom. The work was okay. I have hired several contractors in the past, and I tried this company after reading positive reviews on another site. The price was a lot higher than I anticipated, but I figured the work would be completed perfectly and on time. Wrong. First, I was not informed until after the crew came out to start work (and I had paid my deposit) that they would have to cut out a portion of my hallway wall to access the plumbing. To make matters worse, it took them weeks to return to cover it with the trim they promised. Then, there were several delays, such as: them not ordering the right part for my faucet, but they were kind enough to give me a replacement while I waited (2 week delay); the worker getting sick (1 day delay); and them showing up with the wrong piece to finally connect the faucet (1 week delay). Lastly, in the end, the job was not perfect. There were still minor imperfections, like sloppy caulking and unpainted trim. I was told when I signed the contract that I wouldn't have to submit my final payment until a few days after I had time to enjoy the remodel and after they called to ensure I was happy. I researched companies for bathroom renovations in our home and selected this company as one of the potential companies for hire. The Bowie location performed fine until the visit to the showroom and it was time to provide the estimate; on a sticky note and business card. No details in terms of labor (time and costs), and not even an itemized list of the actual work that would be done to complete the job. How am I supposed to shop around with a price? The person I was scheduled to have the appointment was either new or in training as a more "seasoned" colleague oversaw the process and was the one who thought it was a bright idea to provide me such an estimate in this manner. On occasion, the "seasoned" employee seemed a little impatient and could really use work on the interpersonal skills to tone that aspect of the behavior down. Now mind you, I deal in contracts on a daily basis so I know better but I should not have to tell you how to do your job, so I let this go to see if these "ladies" were actually serious. They actually let me leave with a business card and post it; I was shocked. They either think they are the only game in town; think I'm stupid; did not think I wanted the service; did not want to service me; or something else. What is wrong with these so-called local home grown businesses that claim to want to invest in the community and want the community to invest in them. I am still shopping around because this location experience was horrible and I will NEVER return and I will tell all my associates NOT to patronize this company. read more

They are outrageously expensive. I was going have them just remodel my master bathroom walk in shower and keeping the existing tile. They were to replace the gold trim, clear glass shower doors with polished chrome trim and obscure glass; replace the shower floor plastic with tile and enlarge it 10 1/2 to create a seat. The price they quoted me was $14,800. I was supplying the extra tile for the enlargement and would supply the quartzite seat to match my new quartzite countertop. Remind you in February, I had two bathrooms countertops redone with quartzite, my kitchen counter with granite and a quartzite backsplash to the cabinets for $15,000). In addition, 8 months ago I had a 20 x 16 room tiled with all materials and labor that cost $1,500. I did ask about the price being so high and she stated it was expensive labor to tile. My shower is not going to be anywhere close to 320 square foot like my sun room. I talked to another remodeler today and they stated it would run anywhere from $2000-$5000 depending on the materials I wanted (the materials would drive the price up not the labor of putting in tile). read more

I walked into the metropolitan bath in Bowie in 10/15/2020 around 4:25pm. We were let in electronically, and was excited that we were the only customers in the store. There were two women employees working and they were on the phone. I am looking to redo my 25 year old bathroom with a tub removal and and shower install. I was really impressed by the designs, and the various products. At around 4:50 we had not been acknowledged by any of the two employees. No "hello", or " we will be with you soon", absolutely nothing. I eventually walked towards the employees working area, I didn't say anything because they were on the phone, I just kind of stood around to let them know I was interested in further information. They saw me standing there, and never even looked my way. We wound up leaving. Their behavior was rude, and lacked very basic customer service skills. I just thought you should know my experience so that at the very least, your employees should know that it is a good idea to greet their future customers. read more

they advertise no job too small. so I went to bowie location and inquired. they said my small shower tile job was good and someone would call to set appt. sure enough someone called and discussed. asked me to send pictures and he would get back to me the next day.' I did but he did not. never heard from him so I assume job was too small. steer clear of this one. read more

We set up an appointment for an estimate. The employee came out, took pictures, diagram, and was very professional. We had to go to the showroom to meet with a designer for the estimate. We had a very specific design and had picked the materials we wanted (Metro did not have any marble). Our bathroom is very small and we were not changing the footprint. Replacing tub with walk-in shower, new 30inch vanity, toilet, and tile throughout. Their estimate was $54,000 with us purchasing all of our own marble tile!!! The other estimates were less than $10,000 which is typical for a bathroom remodel. Their estimate is equivalent to a high end kitchen remodel. My husband and I believe they just did not want to do the job for us. They can't possibly think we are stupid enough to pay that much for a small bath refresh!! read more

Owner did our survey and he was a nice guy but I wish he had set some expectations on what the cost estimate would eventually be. Was looking at having our roughed in small 3 piece bathroom finished with nothing fancy (about 35 sq ft)....nothing to remove other than some sections of already installed drywall....Was told I wouldn't get a price until I went to the design center, where we picked mostly standard materials, nothing fancy. I felt like I needed a cold shower when the young lady said the estimate was $20000, almost 4 times the cost per sq ft of the rest of the house.....and the to-do list for them seemed to be shorter than what they weren't doing.....still in disbelief, I'll update this review and eat my words if I can't get the bathroom finished for less than half that. read more

I would like to redo my bathroom, so when I saw this shop, I came into this shop. It is really nicely done with great displays of their craftsmanship. Having said that, of the four employees sitting in the back, none came out to help me. The owner eventually came over and told me that I couldn't take any pictures. Really? I guess I have to memorize their products. I think this type of practice is snobbish and doesn't speak of good customer relationships. I found Metropolitan Bath & Tile in the Shepherd's Guide, which features Christian-based companies, so I thought I would get an honest price. After asking for a quote multiple times, with no-one returning my call, I FINALLY got a quote of $9,800 to replace my shower floor, which is probably 2 feet by 3 feet wide. Seriously? My friend and I both intend to do bathroom remodeling in our 1950's era homes. We were quickly greeted by a representative who seemed extremely knowledgeable and had many years invested in service to the company. He was informative, reassuring about the estimate and design process, and gave us valuable information about the potential time lines involved. He was happy to let us wander the showroom to survey design options and possibilities, but did not pressure us in any way. My husband and I came in here. We want to remodel our bathroom. Upon entering it seemed like a great place. There were 2 employees sitting in the back. Not once did they come to us to ask us if we needed help. When we finally made it to the back of the store we were not even worth the ladies time. She handed us a pamphlet on their business and told us to call when we would want them to come see our bathroom. She didn't even try to sell their business. Terrible and snobby. RUN don't walk away from this "company" Very expensive and will tell you a ton of lies to get you to sign. It has been a big joke since day one. They laid new tile over the demolition stuff on the floor. Even with a contract when you call they say "you misunderstood" probably the most unprofessional bunch I have ever worked with. I recently needed to move back into my parents circa 1912 home to care for my father after my mother's recent passing. Because the house is so small and I needed to have space for myself, we decided to raise the roof to create a new bathroom, bedroom and closet in what was the attic. I interviewed two contractors and it seemed that the bathroom was the most complicated part of the project. A co-worker suggested that I contact Metropolitan Bath and Tile because bathrooms are their specialty. I did and I can't tell you what a pleasure it has been to work with this company. Because they advertise that bathrooms are all that they do, I was worried that they may not be able to do the whole project. Mr. McKenzie explained to me that Metropolitan will do any project as long as it centers around bathroom work. I paid a very reasonable design fee, which ultimately went towards sthe cost of the job, and Mr. McKenzie designed the entire project. Never having done any remodeling before and being a single woman I was apprehensive about the process. Mr. McKenzie was extremely patient, listened carefully to my needs and explained everything in detail and in a way that I could understand. I met with Kelly, the manager/head deisgner in Metropolitan's Bowie showroom where she helped me choose all the materials for my new bathroom, we also selected hardwood for the bedroom and closet, paint colors and moldings and every detail. Of the three contractors that I interviewed, one said that what I wanted couldn't be done, the second wanted to talk price right away, I felt like he just wanted to see what I could afford before he expended any real time. With Metropolitan, nothing was a problem, everyone that I dealt with was accommodating and truly professional. The projected started a couple weeks later than expected due to some hold ups at the county during the permit process. Once the job started, Toad (not sure his real name), the lead carpenter ran the project like a conductor guiding his orchestra. All the workers were neat, clean and efficient in everything they did. They kept me informed every step of the way. I wanted to make a few changes as I saw the project coming together and nothing was ever a problem. All the workers were pleasant, courteous and were truly experienced craftsmen. They all seemed to really take great pride in their work. The project was completed a couple weeks earlier than estimated because we were blessed with great weather, so in the end it was finished exactly on time. The finished bathroom is breathtaking, the tile work is amazing, I couldn't be happier with my new personal space. In the end I got more than I expected and paid much less than I expected. I felt that I got an exceptional value for my money. I would recommend Metropolitan to anyone! read more
