I have been here lots of times to watch Hollywood movie. I guess this cinema is one of the few cinema that does not dub their movies to German. Yes it is original. No offense but watching movie in its initial language is much much more better than watching it when dubbed to another language. The cinema is quite small, with only 3 theater. 1 being the biggest theater and the other two is quite small, fit for movies that are regular. The entrance is small, with 3 cashier to sell the tickets and snacks & beverages. Although the appearance of the bar is very unconvincing, the snacks tastes good and they are sold for a very affordable price. Ticket price is cheaper compared to other cinemas around town. On thursday especially, they have 4€ entrance for students. Cheap, but you will be crushed and squeezed by people when the movies previewed are long waited by public! Lol And one last thing that i dislike about the theater, it is very unorganized with the seating. There are no seat numbers so you have to race to get the best view seating- which relates to my statement above. :( Despite my dislike being pushed, shoved, and squeezed in the crowd, this is my only choice to watch international film with its original language that fits my budget plans. I really do hope they renew their policy and arrangements to make a better experience for us, customers. read more

Metropolis is almost the only theater where they play movies in their original version in Köln. Totally old fashion looking, with 2 rooms on the smaller size, Metropolis is very charismatic. But no worries, the technique is totally ok, good picture and sound quality! The best part I find is that on top of the typical sodas, ice cream, popcorn offering they also serve beer that can be taken inside. A nice Kölsch and a good movie, what else? They also of course play German movies and quite a few children movies. It's not too bad. I just have 2 complaints: Before they let you in, it gets way too crowded and full in front of the door - and warm. The seats are quite uncomfortable and there is no stadium seating in the larger kino rooms - meaning you're looking slightly up the whole time. You either have to slouch down so you can lay your head on the seat or sit at a 90 degree angle and look slightly up. I find it quite uncomfortable and think I will only go back when a movie is playing in one of the small kino rooms - there is stadium seating there. Thank God for a movie theater for English speakers in Cologne. I can't stand watching dubbed movies- no matter how good the dubbing is, the voices don't ever seem to match. The theater is clean, the prices are reasonable, and the service is good. Snack selection is OK but not overpriced as in other theaters. With that said, the theater is underwhelming. It's old-looking and not so flashy or impressive like the fancy Cinedom. Not all theaters have stadium seating, so I literally feel like I'm doing a blast to the past to my childhood (late '80s/early '90s) every time I go to Metropolis. It just reminds me of the old-school theaters I used to go to as a kid. On Kinotag, where prices are reduced, or on busy nights, the lobby gets packed, and standing in a room full of people can be very claustrophobic. The bathroom often has a long line with only a few stalls. I do give kudos to the staff for keeping the theater clean and tidy, given the circumstances, but is this really the best Cologne has to offer when it comes to movies in English? I guess beggars can't be choosers, but it would be great to see some upgrades or improvements in the future- at least by finding a better way to manage the packed crowds in the lobby. read more

When your first language is English, some times you don't particularly want to see a film translated into German : especially when it's a comedy, and half the jokes get dropped by the translators. That's why the Metropolis Cinema is important for English expats, as well as being an alternative to nearby more-expensive mainstream Kinos. The Cinemas themselves, though small, are well-equipped with good seating - the only time I've ever come out of there feeling sore was after the first episode of Lord of the Rings, which I defy anyone to sit straight through - and the staff are friendly and helpful as well. Thursdays are only 4 Euro as well! read more

Love this place. Its small, cosy and usually has a good range of movies in their original language! English is spoken there so if your german isnt great you will still be able to get by. read more

Why only 4 stars? Well, I live in Bonn (no comments, please). I love the fact that movies start late enough to travel from Bonn after work, but the trips back home are always painful at best. I realize it's VRS's fault, not that of Metropolis, but it would be nice if they would schedule some of the adult movies during matinee hours, on occasion. So on to the good stuff: 1) Movies in original version 2) A good variety of first run movies 3) 4EUR Thursdays! 4) Comfortable seating with good views 5) Good sound 6) Cozy atmosphere 7) Sweet popcorn 8) Beer 9) Ice cream 10) Cafe area to meet before or after the movie Viel Spaß! read more

Very studentish in its milieu, but one of the few places you can catch the mainstream UK movies. Cheap, cheerful with good beer in cinema policy, I enjoy the large ex-theatre look. And Ebertplatz is always a nice area to relax in when in Cologne. read more

Considering it's the only Cinema in Köln where you can watch Original Versions of latest releases, it is the best. But smaller than the more popular CinemaxX or Cineplex. The atmosphere though lacks German Standard hygeine, is pretty cozy and nice. The screens are larger than you'd expect. Really enjoy watching movies there. read more
