I'm…read morepretty sure its sort of a family run place as they dont really advertise much and seems like everything is word of mouth. However the whole slavic communities of Winnipeg shop here so the quality is TOPPP notch. Definitly my go to place for meats on Saturday mornings, they have all the best cuts. Janek is the meat shop owner and that man is seriously one of the most passionate chefs out there, a TRULY traditional character (if you're lucky he may even offer you a shot). I believe its the last natural smoke house left in the city, every saturday morning Janek smokes all his meat fresh at 4 am so his customers are very satisfied with freshness. No liquid smoke at all... as I have stomach issues and cant have chemicals or preservatives. Anyways, but if you ever have a chance to order off their catering menu.. WOOOOW! is all I can say. Seriously next level food! The cabbage rolls are something out of a fairy tale, I didn't even know I liked cabbage rolls until I tried this place. Obviously all the traditional food is wonderful, the stuffed beef tenderloin melts in your mouth, and the chicken kiev or stufffed pork roast is FANTASTIC.. well practically all the meats melt in your mouth. PRICE POINT IS CHEAP!!!!! seriously this place has the cheapest prices in the city for nearly everything. Do yourself a favour and try this place for your next catering. Although they do have weird hours- friday and saturday is your best bet.

I had always been curious of this little shop on Maryland with the nice mural on the side. This place is located just south of west broadway in a small building where the place is literally crammed with a million items. It's a bit of a sensory overload since I wasn't looking for anything in particular. There were lots of naan, pita and fresh injeera available! There was quite the selection of halal all beef salami, mortadella, and even bologna (who knew that existed as halal!). There were several types of middle eastern cheeses like halloumi. Lots of spices, canned goods, Turkish items, and frozen meat. Service is very friendly as one staff member offered to give me a tour of the place when I had more time. They have a wide assortment of Asian products such as rice noodles, beef/cuttlefish/fish balls, BBQ pork, miso soup, tofu, etc. Produce isn't of the best quality, but they are definitely cheaper than your No Frills/Safeway alternative, so take it or leave it. Personally I purchase most of my produce from Young's even though I live in Osborne (and have a Safeway 5 min walk from my house). If you're wearing a backpack entering the store, you'll have to put it at the front. The cashier at the front will tell you where to leave it. Definitely a place I will shop frequently, especially coming from someone who misses Asian cuisine.
