I've been shopping here for 20 years. Don't buy steaks here, $16.00 at AAA Angus. Terribly tough. More than once. When will I learn?

After many many many years of them closing down a pretty run down, pretty ghetto Metro on RIdeau,…read moreit's finally re-opened! They opened the last week of August and I heard there were giveaways for the first 100 shoppers. I unfortunately had meetings or would have dropped by to check it out. The place looks like it's in pristine condition. Security out front, gates when you come in and immediately into the produce section. They have a pretty good selection of produce here. It's larger than what's in New Edinburgh and seems pretty fresh. WAY nicer than what was here at the previous Metro. After the produce section, there's a hot bar on the left I believe. I saw pizza and flatbreads there and a few other goodies. There's a nice prepared and packaged foods in the area as well. Lots of options. Once you get past that, there's a bakery with lots of breads and baked goods. I mean take a look at all those cakes! Unfortunately I've never tried any of these so I really can't comment on the quality. The butcher has some decent quality meats and a decent selection here as well. That's followed up with a seafood section. I don't think there's any fresh seafood but there's a nice selection here. As you walk throughout the store, there's rows of pantry items, snacks, drinks and did I mention snacks?! This Metro feels like it has a nicer selection than the old one. I think it'll have a lot of the things that you need. The staff have been friendly and helpful the few times I've been already. I hope this keeps up. I haven't. The prices are a bit higher than some of the budget grocery spots but I think a bit cheaper than Loblaws. Also if you're on the Loblaws boycott, this is the spot for you. It's great for residents of the area. It saves a trip to Loblaws or Farmboy.

Went for the sausage rolls and picked up a butter chicken pastry with a single slice of cake. Washed it all down with well priced chocolate milk. It's cheaper than many comparables!

Farmboy is my grocer of choice. I love shopping there. From the local foods and business's they…read morebring into the store and support, to their awesome produce selection, I always look forward to my weekly trips at Farmboy. My reason for my two star is solely based on the LOCATION. I got excited as I pulled up to the store. It definitely had that local farm feel, but it was a much older and smaller store. Most Farmboys are small, with some newer stores making the transition to a large format store. The entrance is one teeny tiny door which was crowded with people standing in front of it. This goes for the exit as well. Trying to get in and out of the store was almost claustrophobic. The store carried most items that you would see at other farmboys, but it was very limited to the flavors and choices.Their dry food selection was very small. I buy my k-cups here and the selection was sub-par. It was hard to maneuver around the store because the store was very small and could not support the traffic of customers that ventured out to this store. I ran over my foot twice. Ouch! This is an OK location if you just have to pick up a couple of items and you are in the area, besides that, I would venture out to one of the larger Farmboys like Trainyards for a more enjoyable shopping experience.

Although they tend to cost more than your regular grocery store, the food is on the upper end of the quality spectrum and they usually have free samples so that you can "try it before you buy it".
