It's always interesting trying McDonald's in other countries and see how much better it could be…read more Milan is no exception, and in this Italian version of McDonald's they have a cafe with freshly baked goods similar to every cafe in Italy at very competitive prices. Here they really take the environment seriously: no plastics in anything while still giving a good price. Located right under the Milano Centrale train station, this McDonald's feels extremely clean and modern with all the familiar amenities you find in the US plus the McCafe for the Italian version. I have to say, the croissant was very comparable to Italian Cafes here which is a good sign that the McDonald's tries to make the food actually taste good here, unlike in the US. Now one thing that differs is that they charge for ketchup, other condiments and even the restrooms. They also check for your COVID pass or CDC card if you're American. They were doing this before the new restrictions so I wouldn't be surprised if they continued afterwards. Overall, lovely McDonald's and it is refreshing to see this being held to a higher standard than most US based Mcds.

I was able to order my food via the ordering kiosks, as they had an option for multiple languages including Italian and English, so it was relatively straightforward to find and select what I wanted to order. I ordered the gluten-free burger, strangely this was on the menu but they didn't state what was on the burger, nor could I order any other burger on the menu with a gluten-free bun, I do feel this could be improved, It's great they have gluten-free buns but why is there only one burger available, especially one they fail to describe? The gluten-free burger turned out to be a cheeseburger, with no sauce/pickles, just plain meat and cheese, they did seem to take cross contamination seriously, as my burger arrived wrapped in plastic packaging, inside a cardboard burger box, but that's the only good thing I have to say about it. It turns out that they heat up the burger in the bag, so it was pretty disgusting, the bun was fine, but the burger its-self was dry and bland and the meat didn't taste right at all, it tasted like it was microwaved or boiled. My gluten-eating guest commented her food was fine she ordered a Fillet of Fish. Be aware that they do charge for sauces here, Ketchup, BBQ sauce and the other usual suspects are 30 cents extra here, which are usually free in the UK. 2* - Obviously there are much better choices than McDonald's, especially in Italy, if you're looking for a quick bite in central station, this place isn't too bad, it looks presentable and has a large seating area and fast service, but disappointing food quality means it's a let down for me.
