It is easy to get to and is on the honor system. This station has a kiosk at the top of the stairs that you purchase your fare from. Only ticketed passengers are supposed to be on the train platform, but I did not see that being enforced or checked. They do have some security people walking around the station on occasion, but they really kept to themselves. This station lets off right at Busch Stadium. Gateway Arch Park and the Old Courthouse is within walking distance of the station. Luckily, I was here while the Cardinals were on the road. I can imagine that this place gets crazy on game days due to its sheer convenience. Now the bad. While on the train, I saw a fight, someone smoking (I do not know what they were smoking), someone playing loud music from their phone, and someone drinking alcohol. It was wild. Anyway, the train was pretty close to its scheduled time and was relatively clean, all things considered. Would I ride this train again...Yes, you can not beat riding all around town for $5 for a day. I would just caution you that you will more than likely encounter some shady characters on the train and at the station, so just beware.

Located in the heart of the city's medical corridor, it serves as a practical gateway to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University Medical Center, and the lively Central West End neighborhood. Central West End is between Cortex (heading east into downtown) and Forest Park / DeBaliviere heading west. The station's layout is straightforward and functional, with clear signage and covered platforms that help riders stay oriented even during busy hours. It is an island platform with the tracks on each side. Elevators and ramps provide step-free access, although some of the older infrastructure could use a refresh. Thanks to its proximity to major institutions, the station is generally safe and well-patrolled, with a steady flow of commuters, students, and hospital staff contributing to its active atmosphere. What makes Central West End stand out is how well it connects to the surrounding area. Just beyond the platform, you'll find tree-lined streets, cafés, and historic buildings that invite exploration. Whether you're heading to a medical appointment or grabbing lunch nearby, the station is a reliable and well-placed hub. It may not be flashy, but it gets the job done. In a city where transit options are limited, that reliability matters. [Review 1166 of 2025 - 432 in Missouri - 24719 overall]

Have done running tours in Philadelphia and it's a great way to see the sights on foot. I'm glad when major cities offer such a tour. Food tours, mural arts, walking are all great too but running was my chance to take a break midweek from the sciencing and networking. Joe had several tours available on the weekends but I was able to do one on a Wednesday evening as part of the summer schedule. As I caught a Lyft from St. Charles during rush hour to the meeting spot at Kierney Plaza, Joe was understanding if I was a little late start. Turns out I was the only runner signed up so it became more like a personalized tour. What I loved was hearing Joe's vast knowledge of St. Louis along the way, and his passion for running. He even carried a camera and took photos throughout. Of course we stopped at the arch, but also Lacledes Landing, the riverfront, bridge, Lewis and Clark statue, the ballpark, Citygarden sculptures, City Museum, and other neat houses/buildings even after the sun went down. The price for the downtown tour included the photos (via Dropbox), bottled water and a t-shirt. I forget the exact distance but the pace was comfortable enough for conversation. Had fun out on the road, exploring! There's a lot to be said about opting for the active, outdoor, fun option while traveling for conferences. Happy to have chosen the road less traveled! There are separate entrances depending on which direction you are traveling, so check to see if you are entering the westbound or eastbound entrance. Given the location to the Arch, I found this station pretty sketchy. It is operational and not derelict, but it is in need of a deep clean as it has the foul odor of urine. I avoided lugging my carry-on on its floors and opted to carry it to avoid its stench. Wait times for a train are about 20 minutes, so I would check the train schedule to spend as little time here as necessary or get on at another stop that is not as suspect.
