Too pricey, quality and finish far worse than others and they took 2 weeks for small work.

For a long time, we struggled to find a framer who matched her level of dedication. We used to visit neighborhood craft stores where we'd pay a premium for subpar work, all while feeling immense stress leaving behind a piece she had labored over for a year. Finding Kent and Karla was a total game-changer. My parents, who split their time in Canada, have now trusted them with our family's entire collection for years. Kent has an extraordinary eye for detail. He doesn't just pick a frame that "matches"; he selects materials that perfectly complement the texture and tone of the tapestry. His stretching technique is flawless--the work is taut, vibrant, and truly comes to life. Her most recent piece, Vermeer's The Milkmaid, was framed so beautifully that it looks eerily like the original I saw at the Rijksmuseum. If you have high-value or sentimental art that requires a master's touch, look no further.

I took my ukiyo-e print to them, and they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. It began well: I said "this is special, so I'd like to use the museum quality good stuff" and they said "that's all we ever use," so I knew I was in good hands. The finished product looked terrific (I'd post a pic, but it's under wraps until Christmas) and was, given how busy they are, relatively swiftly done, in about two/three weeks.

I came across a Groupon for Wendy Berry Custom Framing so I went ahead and bought one. In my experience, businesses who offer vouchers via Groupon, SocialShopper, etc. often cut corners. I usually leave feeling that while the product or service was worth the price of the voucher, it was not worth the full price without a voucher. Wendy Berry Custom Framing is one of the rare exceptions where I left feeling that the final product was absolutely worth the full price. After sneaking off with what I thought was my friend's single print (it turned out to be two), I brought it over to Wendy and she went over possible options for framing them. The prints were very different from each other, and Wendy accommodatingly went over some options with me and came up with some beautiful frame and matting ideas for each of them. I had never gotten anything framed professionally before and I was very excited to see the results from the moment I left the prints with Wendy. I was not disappointed. A week later, I picked up the two framed prints and the results were beautiful. Each print was in a different frame with different coloured mats that complemented and enhanced them perfectly. I highly recommend Wendy Berry Custom Framing should you need anything professionally framed.

This is my new favorite store in Vancouver. I know, I know,…read moreit's not a new store. It's been around a long time. But it's new to me - and I FREAKIN' LOVE IT. I was wandering around Gastown the other day - I'm not often in the area, - and I stumbled upon this fabulous gift and card shop. It's small but wow, it packs a punch. I'm a sucker for stationery stores. I love greeting cards - the wittier, the more twisted, the better. I love funky household gift items (mostly for myself, truth be known!). I love fun tchotchkes that I can collect through the year and then put in my adult kids' Christmas stockings or give to them, out of the blue, to cheer them up. I love fun socks, clever games, colorful jigsaw puzzles, gorgeous wrapping papers and gift bags, Vancouver ornaments and Prosser art canvases. In other words, I love everything this store sells. They have a box that says "FREE" on it and it contains various items - all free. I got a small structured mylar-esque lunchbox that zippers up and has cute graphics of bike riders all over it. Totally new, with tags! I put all my purchases in it and carried it home, planning to give it to a friend who's a big bike enthusiast. SO nice. Another bonus is how incredibly nice the folks are who work here. As soon as I entered this place, I could see it was my kind of store, so I told the guy behind the counter that I love this store and I am going to be here a while (lol). He and I laughed and chatted and I browsed the store for a long, long time, getting a bunch of fun things along the way, chuckling at the funny (and some risqué) cards, admiring all the framing work they do (oh yeah, I should mention that they're essentially a framing shop!), and just loving everything about this fun shop.
