A Great Experience for Absolute Beginners…read more As someone with absolutely no experience in martial arts, I was initially very nervous about joining, but my experience has been fantastic! I've taken five fundamental classes so far: 4 MMA classes 1 Jiu-Jitsu class 1 Kickboxing Cardio class Why I Recommend It: Well-Organized Curriculum The curriculum is structured in a way that's perfect for beginners. Each class builds on the basics, making it easy to follow along and feel confident even if you've never stepped foot in a martial arts gym before. Supportive Coaches The coaches are incredibly skilled at teaching newcomers. They break things down clearly and provide personal attention to make sure everyone is comfortable. It's clear that they're passionate about helping people learn, regardless of experience level. Friendly & Welcoming Environment From the coaches to the other students, the gym creates a warm and supportive atmosphere. Everyone is kind and encouraging, which made it easy for me to feel at ease and motivated. Concerns Before Joining & How They Were Addressed: No Experience & Adapting to the New Environment I was nervous about fitting in, but the well-organized curriculum and the coaches' experience with beginners helped me adjust quickly. The environment is friendly, and everyone is willing to help out! Concerns About Smells As someone who's sensitive to smells, I was a little worried about the cleanliness of the gym. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that they clean thoroughly between classes, so there's no need to worry about unpleasant odors. I trained at Millennia for a little under a year, and would definitely recommend it for any child,…read moreteen, or adult who is looking to get into striking or grappling. There are two locations: the main HQ in Rancho Cucamonga, and Chino (which is where I trained). Both locations hold the following classes: -Kids BJJ -Kids Pankration -Striking Fundamentals -BJJ Fundamentals -Advanced Striking -Advanced BJJ (Gi and Nogi) -Wrestling -Cardio Kickboxing Classes are offered almost everyday in both the morning and evening. Instructors are very supportive, knowledgeable, and patient with all students willing to learn and put in the work. I originally joined with an intent of doing both striking and BJJ, but after just 3 months, I fell in love with BJJ that I decided to train BJJ exclusively. Training partners are also very supportive and contribute to the gym's strong and positive culture. I only left because I found a different gym that is closer to where I live with class times that work better with my schedule, but still cannot recommend this place enough. I'm really amazed at how much I learned in the 10 months or so that I was with the gym. Your first class is free, give it a try!

This gym has been very…read morewelcoming and has provided a fantastic learning environment to its students that range from white belt to black. The classes are full enough that there's always a partner for everybody but small enough that every student gets some individual attention. The three main instructors are well practiced in their craft and present it in a way that's easy to digest and learn. If you're looking to join a combat sport, want to get in shape or you're just curious about jiu jitsu, this is a great place to start.

This location is owned by the same owners as GB Upland. If your goal is just to do jiu-jitsu for…read morefitness, this school may work fine. The main issue is the curriculum. It's very basic, standardized, and repeated year-round. This appears intentional. Regular classes teach only the minimum, while techniques outside the posted curriculum are pushed into paid private lessons. Because of this, most students are trained as hobbyists. Extra instruction or advanced opportunities often depend on personal relationships rather than a structured development path. The curriculum is designed for retention, not depth, and this model is consistent across Gracie Barra schools. The gap becomes clear when students compete or train outside the Gracie Barra environment. While internal GB tournaments create an even playing field, they can give a false sense of progress. When students compete outside of GB or train at another academy against the same rank the difference in technical depth, adaptability, and exposure is often very noticeable. Even the instructors don't train the same curriculum as regular students, which speaks to how limited it is. Compared to other academies that teach more as part of regular training (without extra fees), this approach leaves students less prepared overall.

I am a newer member to Javi's gym (November, 2019), but not to jiujitsu or martial arts. I have had…read morethe privilege to learn and train under world class instructors, which is the reason I sought out Javi in the first place, as his lineage, fighting experience, personality, and teaching style, exhibit the marks of such instruction. His brand of "Strike-Based" Jiujitsu, by name alone drew me to seek him out over all other jiujitsu schools in the Inland Empire, as it emphasizes that jiujitsu is first and formost a Self-Defense art. With respect to his academy, I am pleased that there is a respectful attitude amongst his students exhibited to eachother and extended to new sign-ups like myself, there are virtually no ego's displayed or felt during live rolls, and the mats and facilities are up kept and cleaned daily. I am excited to see how my growth in jiujitsu under Javi's instruction will blossom, and although I am relatively still new to his academy, based on what I have experienced and observed thus far, I recommend his academy to anyone looking to learn, develope, and expand their knowledge of Self-Defense offered through his jiujitsu instruction.
