Looks good but looking forward to French patisseries.

It was okay. Nothing super special. Hvnt come across a coffee shop or pastry shop to gawk about so far. This, if you're in Avignon, make sure to go the Amorino. It has one of the best Amorinos in the EU. I'm in Nice rt now n there's two Amorinos close to each other. They both cannot compare to Avignon's portion.

We ordered a soft pretzel. It tasted okay, but I think it had been sitting out for a long time because it was cold and tough. Price-wise, you can't beat their pretzels.

This is one bakery any tourist from San Diego simply MUST visit. The prices are very reasonable, the coffee is pretty good, and oh, the baked goods are phenomenal !! I cannot think of any comparable bakery in San Diego County. That said, I decided to have a very fetching-looking mozzarella cheese and tomato sandwich (on bakery bread, natch). Let me tell you, that was 2.75 Euros well spent ! I love this place.

Stale - pretzel and croissant - was looking forward to my first pretzel in Germany but it was stale and so was the croissant- oh well I'll try someplace else

The is the quintessential German bakery. The pretzel was incredible!!! It was so inexpensive and filling! I need to come back to try more!!!

When in Europe I'm all about a daily dose of pastry, and I was quite pleased with the rhubarb-custard pastry I selected for takeaway. If you're not a sweets person, there are plenty of savory pretzels to choose from too. For those planning ahead: Merzenich is south of the cathedral and east of Hohestrasse.

This is a poular chain in the city. In the city center, I walked by so many of them that eventually I said I should try a couple of things. There must be a reason why this has grown so much in this city. 3.5 stars. It is an old institution perhaps in the city which is my guess why it has expanded so much but I was underwhelmed with what they had compared to other bakeries across Germany. They do have most staples and a couple of things that are popular in this region in Germany. Overall it was generally cheap and decent but maybe not the best place to spend your caloric allowance for the day...

We paid for everything and then took a seat inside the bakery. In addition to lots of sweet pastries, tarts, buns, and even gelato, they also sold savory sandwiches and drinks too. It was a very casual and comfortable bakery to seat yourself in to enjoy a pastry and drink on a sunny afternoon. The Streuselstreifen (an apple pastry) was firm and crunchy while the top containing soft sliced apples that weren't too sweet. It was such a delicious dessert!! We gobbled it up within seconds (both because we were low on time but also because it went down so easily).

The place is not on the main shopping-street, Hohestrasse, but it is still pretty crowdy.

While walking around Cologne, I kept seeing locals with the most delicious looking Berliner donut…read morepastries. I saw they were getting them at Merzenich, a popular bakery chain in Germany. I decided to get one because the pastries looked so good and sweet. This location has a sit down area inside as well as an exterior takeaway counter. It took a little while to jostle the crowds to order (and busy locals had no problem shoving in front of us tourists), but eventually we were able to place our order. The staff here isn't the friendliest around, and the woman behind the counter's tone quickly changed when she learned that we weren't from Germany. No matter, I really wanted that pastry! Behind the counter you could see lots of tasty looking pastries, breads, pretzels, rolls, cakes, pies, and sandwiches. You could easily make a quick, filling, and affordable meal here. Prices were reasonable (my donut was less than a dollar). Inside, you can also get coffee and espresso-based beverages. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here again, but it was a great detour for a bit of afternoon pick-me-up energy.

Came here to grab some pastries on a weekday afternoon - got a cheese stick and a pecan sticky bun…read more The former was too salty for me but tasty, lots of cheese. The latter wasn't overly sweet which I appreciated, and the bread was really soft, quite enjoyed it. Lots of pecan as well. €5.60 for both which is a bit pricey but definitely tasty!
