After the free consultation (which I liked the in-processing attorney) I paid the retainer and quickly got with a team. Quickly I fired this team because they were not listening to me. One of the senior partners reconnected me to another team that better suited me. I felt like I was another number and all they cared about was running up the bill. Now after the divorce I asked for additional consultation and all they wanted was another retainer paid after delaying 30 days with nothing to show for it. read more

This law firm does not provide services that I would recommend. I do not feel that I had proper representation for my divorce. I would have expected some guidance through this process. Instead, this team allowed the clock to run and my divorce cost of over $30,000. I am in the middle of an awful divorce and was told to use Meriwhether & Tharp because they would fight for me. False! I was given false information leading up to my temporary hearing for custody of my 10 year old little girl; as well as directly lied to at the hiring in regards to what I was actually agreeing to. I had 2 witnesses with me who understood one thing and even asked questions in regards to the custody arrangement. My attorney then when I desperately needed her help to fix HER MISTAKE told me there was nothing she could do!! After me calling, emailing insisting she has to fix the mistake- she charged me outrageous amounts of money to put a bandaid over her mistake. Not fixing the life ALTERING error in mine and my child's life! I would say to anyone that they should look elsewhere for representation! They don't even deserve one star. I'm a single mom with three kids two of which are special needs. I hired the firm and gave them everything that I had in terms of money. I was upfront about the amount of money that I had to go to trial. I was promised all sorts of help and you had many consultations and phone consultations about the trial and the details of my case. I had already been to mediation again but I was reassured we were only going there to see what the other side was doing. Then one month before trial they let me know that I ran out of money and withdrew from my case. I pleaded with him not to even told them that I would come up with a way to pay. After my attempts of talking to Mr. Lee Meriwether they abandon me. Now my trial is coming up I am without representation and they have not forwarded me a comprehensive file even though I've asked. read more

I spent an entire years salary in legal fees over the course of 15 months with Meriwether & Tharp and in my opinion I have very little to show for it. I did not receive custody arrangements that I was satisfied with, and only a third of my legal fees my ex-husband caused me to incur by dragging out the process, and little more than a quarter of the equity in the home my ex-husband and I had bought together. When I spoke to a partner about how they handled my case she initially apologized but later, when I spoke to her again, she said they did what they could within the parameters of the legal system. This may be accurate, but they did a poor job by not answering my questions and returning my emails. Towards the end Meriwether & Tharp would often avoid any type of communication, once actually not allowing me to even make an appointment to speak to anyone on my legal team. Eventually I had to take a day off to go up to their office and demand to speak to someone regarding my case / to find out why no one would talk to me. An entire years salary in legal fees and nothing to show for it means I either was taken advantage of or had poor legal representation, you can decide which. They never got full discovery, even though I explained he was hiding money and lying about his income; this was later corroborated by his own sister unfortunately after trail. They decided not to bother applying for temporary support, which resulted in me being without financial help caring for my daughter for almost a year. Meriwether & Tharp also misled me on possible settlements until right before trial when they then informed me it would basically be a wash. This meant they had literally been charging me to fight for nothing but encouraging me to do so in the hopes of getting me funds to cover legal fees incurred. My mistake may have been paying my bills in full as they came in and exposing myself as a soft target. These are the more major things that I can remember as it was a very traumatic time in my life. I hired Meriwether & Tharp to protect me and guide me through the process, not guide me to their pockets. Whichever lawyer you choose, protect yourself so you don't end up like I did; chewed up and spit out. Follow up every call with an email covering what you discussed, and keep notes. I did not know that I would need to protect myself against my own lawyers. Please learn from my mistake. read more

Not a subject I really like bringing out to the pubic, but I do feel that as a Yelper, I need to make the community aware. I had an atrocious experience at this firm. It was actually completely inexcusable, incompetent service. I hired an attorney from this firm, Charlotte Ruble, to handle my divorce. Waited close to a month and a half for a hearing, which I was eagerly anticipating. I had asked prior to filing why she was filing in Fulton County when we no longer lived there. She claimed we had not established residency in our current county yet, so that was her explanation. We get to court, and I find out she filed in the WRONG county! So took a day off work, drove downtown...for nothing! Not to mention we had to transfer the case to the correct county, all the while wasting more time and money. You're a divorce attorney and you don't know where to file?! Come on! So understandably upset, I emailed her demanding retribution for a day wasted off work and a drive to a courthouse for nothing after having to battle a ruthless soon to be ex who was doing nonsense like stealing all the silverware from the house so my daughter and I had to use plastic. And to wait over a month for a court date in hopes of getting him out of the house only to find out this incompetent idiot filed in the wrong county! And she had the nerve to send me an email back saying it wasn't her fault he was stealing the silverware and she thought I needed to seek a therapist!! Then her paralegal sends me several emails back and forth about some credit card statements I had given them, and I couldn't figure out why she was sending me my own statements until she realized she thought I was the opposing attorney! Seriously?!?! So I complain to one of the partners, who smooths things over and promises to handle my case with care. Multiple times, I had to wait extended period of times for answers and he was not working proactively to get my case handled. Once, I called to talk to the paralegal, and had to leave a message but later that day, an offer was sent to me for review that had been sent to them five days prior. I got so worried they would delay things that I had to tell my ex to let me know anytime his attorney reached out to mine, so I could follow through. One of the final straws was being told by my attorney, "what am I getting so emotional about? It's a piece of paper left at this point.". Meanwhile, I had to put my stuff in storage because my ex was stealing out of the house, I was spending thousands of dollars trying to get the case finished, and stressing daily over what was going on. It was ridiculous and I finally fired him, too. I have seen and heard advertisements for this practice, but just because you advertise doesn't make you good. After much research my son called Meriwether and Tharp and spoke with Mr. Tharp. He was very impressed with Mr. Tharp. Thinking he was going to represent him he signed up and paid the retainer. He then gets an email stating that Courtney a junior associate will be his attorney. To make a long story short the bottom line is after 5 weeks and almost $5,000. nothing was accomplished. Courtney was never available when he called. She was negative to his needs. She was late in filing papers, which had his wife's attorney withdraw a possible settlement agreement. My son was actually worst off then when he started with Courtney. He now has a new attorney, someone that is willing to fight for his rights, is available when he needs to talk, and the process is moving along nicely. read more

As if a divorce is not painful enough, discovering the legal team that you have hired is incompetent makes it an unbearable process. Going into the process, I thought I hired the right team for their experience & reputation (great marketing) only to discover error after error after error! The most disturbing fact here is my divorce was a fairly SIMPLE, uncontested divorce; however, due to their errors, they made it more complicated. From drafting my divorce papers using someone else's divorce case (what appeared to be copy/paste), to billing mistakes: being overcharged, incorrectly billed and duplicate charges found on my invoices. I provided my team with detailed information regarding my case and on several occasions, I had to resubmit the information because they did not properly document the communication. Sloppy work is an understatement of this firms care and due diligence. I have many regrets about hiring this team and DO NOT RECOMMEND them. read more
